Not long after Apple blocked Java yet again from its systems, Oracle has released an updated version of the web plug-in addressing the latest security threats in the platform. Apple has yet to issue its own updates.

Oracle has been having a lot of trouble patching some security bugs in its Java platform as of late.

Affecting all implementations of the software (including Mac and Windows), the latest Java versions have been subsequently blocked by Apple in its OS X operating systems, including Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion.

While Java remains blocked in OS X’s Safari browser until Apple issues its own updates, Oracle is now offering Java 7 Update 17 / 8 Build 80 Dev which, unsurprisingly, “contains fixes for security vulnerabilities,” according to the release notes.
