New version includes conversation enhancements with tappable contacts

After getting its iOS 7 facelift, Facebook Messenger is now getting minor incremental updates packing small features and enhancements.

The latest such update is Facebook 3.1, which comes with the neat ability to tap on a person’s profile picture in any conversation to view their Timeline or give them a free call.

The second part of the update deals with bug fixes and improvements. Any crashes or hangs you may have been experiencing should be gone now. Finally, Japanese speakers get improved translations.

Normally, I’d recommend to always have the latest version of Facebook Messenger installed, but seeing how it all went down for WhatsApp users the other day, I’ll let you decide whether or not to take the plunge.

You can download Facebook Messenger 3.1 on any iOS 6 device. Newcomers should note that the app works with your existing data plan when you’re not on Wi-Fi.
