Evernote has pushed out an update for all users of its popular note-taking application advising everyone to update their login password to avoid having their information fall in the wrong hands.

In a notice sent out to customers worldwide, Evernote said, “This update addresses a security issue that requires you to reset your password.”

On its blog, the company explains that the problem isn’t exactly alarming, but “As a precaution to protect your data, we have decided to implement a password reset,” it adds.

“While our password encryption measures are robust, we are taking additional steps to ensure that your personal data remains secure,” Evernote clarifies.

The company is requiring all users to reset their Evernote account passwords by signing into their account on evernote.com, in what the company calls “an abundance of caution.”

Users basically need to create an all-new password to use with Evernote, which may sound like a bummer, but it’s a heck of a lot better than to have your notes published by hackers on the web.
