Cocktail 6.8.1 is out for users carrying out regular maintenance on their Macs, featuring some improvements to the Pilot scheduler, as well as other tweaks and fixes.

A general purpose utility developed by Maintain, Cocktail is (as its name implies) a mix of maintenance tools for power users which lets you tweak pretty much every parameter on your machine.

You can carry out scheduled cleaning sessions, repair disks, set spindown time, run cron scripts, modify sleep settings, recreate a Mac OS 9 desktop alias, configure the file server, optimize your system, etc.

Version 6.8.1 makes improvements to the Pilot scheduler, with Maintain explaining that, when users update from version 6.7.1 (or earlier), “the scheduler will be automatically disabled and [will] have to be enabled manually.”

The update addresses an issue in which Cocktail may crash at startup and fixes compatibility issues with QuarkXPress 10. Automator actions are also updated.
