Adds Netflix for Mexico, fixes audio issue with optical port

Apple has released a fresh firmware for owners of a second-generation Apple TV, adding support for Netflix in Mexico. The patch also “addresses an issue in which audio may not play through the optical port when the TV is turned off”, according to the release notes.

At the time of this writing, Apple was yet to post the official changelog on its Support web site - About Apple TV (2nd generation) software updates.

However, Apple TV owners have confirmed that Cupertino is serving up “AppleTV2,1_4.4.3_9A405l_Restore.ipsw” to all those who use the second-generation ‘black-box’ model.

It’s unknown whether or not this release breaks compatibility with fireCore’s utilities that jailbreak and add new functionality to Apple’s set-top box, but I’m sure some users with update-itchy fingers will find out the hard way. All this being said, you can download the new firmware here, in case you want to update / restore manually with iTunes.
