Apple expects to sell around 55 million units this year

Apple is experiencing lacking demand for its diminutive tablet computer as of late, and the company’s suppliers are blaming the consumers for that. Apparently they want something new.

Sources within Apple’s supply chain are telling DigiTimes that they’re expecting a 20-30% cut in iPad mini shipments during the second quarter of this year “due to lacking demand in the market.”

The main reason cited by the anonymous sources is “consumers waiting for the release of the next generation iPad mini.” Apple has already adjusted its shipments and cut shipping estimates, and may be forced to do it again.

While the Cupertino giant is likely preparing a new iPad mini model equipped with a Retina display, the supply chain sources maintain that “Apple still hopes to ship 55 million iPad minis in 2013.”
