Every Chevron pump in the United States will be equipped with contactless payment gear so that customers wielding an Apple device can pay as soon as they’ve refueled and be on their way faster than you can say “iPhone.”

Chevron tweeted out the news on Monday evening when it answered to Justin Montigne (@SingAsana), who said, “I'd sure love to be able to use Apple Pay at the pump in 2015. Thanks! #ApplePay.” The multinational energy corporation replied, “We are working alongside Apple to develop solutions to integrate with Apple Pay at the pump by early 2015.”

Announced in September and released in October, Apple Pay was enabled for customers by means of a free software update to iOS 8. It’s a contactless payment service supported by new Apple hardware, including the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, as well as new iPads and the upcoming Apple Watch.

On devices with NFC (Near Field Communication) chips like the iPhone 6 and the Apple Watch, customers simply authenticate the purchase by waving the device in front of the receiver at the register. A single button press is needed on the Apple Watch, while the iPhone 6 method requires the user to authenticate using Touch ID (fingerprint).

Users of the announced iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 can use Touch ID on their devices for Apple Pay within apps.
