The third-generation iPad isn’t even out yet and Apple’s virtual shelves are already empty, with an estimated delivery date for new-pre orders pushed to March 19th. The original shipping date was March 16th.

If you were wondering whether Apple’s new iPad was making a splash among customers, wonder no more. The thing is selling like hot cake, and Apple hasn’t even begun shipping it yet.

The first tablets are to arrive March 16th for customers who have been quick enough to pre-order one through Apple's online store. Reports indicate that some customers are already receiving theirs, but these are exceptions.

Whether it’s the low-end 16 gig model with WiFi, or the high-end 64GB 4G model you seek, the shortest timeframe to have one delivered to your door is March 19th at the moment.

And don’t count on that date either. History has shown that delivery dates can be pushed by as much as thee weeks, if demand continues to remain strong.
