Sources in Taiwan say the rumored cheap iPhone has lower-spec display and CPU

Taiwan’s DigiTimes is at it again citing the usual unnamed industry sources in Asia regarding the next generation of iPhones from Apple.

According to the report in question, Apple’s rumored “budget” iPhone “will be comparable to the iPhone 4S in hardware specifications but with a lower specification display and processor.” Or, in layman terms, a piece of junk.

Apple has long maintained that it does not sacrifice functionality for profit margins and / or market share, yet the media insists that the company will break its golden rule this year.

The tidbit shared by DigiTimes this morning is sketchy, at best.

I don’t see Apple launching anything inferior to the iPhone 5, let alone introduce a handset that is inferior to the iPhone 4S (which is almost two years old). It’s just not on the company’s agenda. At the very worst, the cheap iPhone will be at least as powerful as the iPhone 4S.
