Alongside the new iOS for iPhone 4S users Apple this week released a new software update for Apple TV (second-generation) owners to address some stability and performance issues with the $99 set-top box.

According to a knowledge base article that Apple updates systematically with the latest changes on the Apple TV front, “Apple TV software version 4.4.4 includes general performance and stability improvements, including a fix for an issue that displayed an error when playing some video content.”

The IPSW is obtainable either as a direct download which you can use to restore your hardware using iTunes, or via Software Update from the Apple TV menu (the recommended method).

Those wielding a jailbroken set-top box may want to hold off their update until the folks at fireCore confirm that Seas0nPass supports this new build.
