Suppliers are now stranded waiting for instructions from Cupertino

A new report from Taiwan citing sources within Apple’s supply chain says the Cupertino mammoth has halted component orders with suppliers. The company has reportedly overestimated its sales numbers.

Citing the usual sources within the upstream supply chain, hit-and-miss trade publication DigiTimes says Apple has stopped placing part orders for Macs “and related upstream suppliers so far have not yet received any word about when the US-based vendor will resume its orders.”

The component manufacturers are reportedly “stranded waiting for further instructions from Apple.”

According to the same sources, “Apple's Mac orders to the supply chain dropped to almost nothing after the Lunar New Year holidays.”

The company had expected Macs to perform better, and reportedly placed “aggressive orders” last year. The Cupertino behemoth now regrets its decision, says the report.

iPad cannibalization is cited as the main reason for the decline in Macintosh shipments.
