Apple has rolled out a new version of iPhoto that can now open libraries from Aperture 3.3 and supports AVCHD video. The release is accompanied by an Upgrader app which imports libraries from ancient versions of the photo management app.

In iPhoto 9.3, the Description field now automatically expands as needed when entering text, and users can now flag a photo in Magnify (1-up) view by clicking a Flag icon displayed in the upper left corner of the photo.

Users will notice that keywords and titles are now preserved when exporting files with embedded GPS location data. They’ll also see a new Export option which automatically organizes exported photos into subfolders by event.

Accompanying the new iPhoto is the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.0, which “prepares libraries from iPhoto 5 or earlier so they can be upgraded with the current version of iPhoto,” according to Apple.
