Apple has released Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update version 5.01, a 6.66MB software package which adds support for the latest camera models.

Any photographer will tell you that RAW images retain the most information in a given picture, much more than JPEGs and the like. Creatives work with RAW formats in professional editing applications like Aperture and Photoshop, so OS X needs support for the RAW formats churned out by the latest cameras.

Consider them drivers which you install to support your newly purchased DSLR. In this new update, Apple is adding RAW image compatibility for the following cameras to Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11.

Canon PowerShot G16, Canon PowerShot S120, Fujifilm X-A1, Nikon COOLPIX P7800, Nikon D610, Olympus PEN Lite E-PL6, Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GX7, Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LF1, Sony Alpha ILCE-3000, Sony Alpha NEX-5T.

System requirements include OS X 10.8.5 and OS X 10.9 or later. Download Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 5.01 from Softpedia today.
