The fruity company at 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, Calif., has released a new software update for Mac OS X users adding RAW image compatibility for a new batch of cameras.

As any photographer will tell you, RAW formats are great for use in Aperture and Photoshop as they retain more image information than JPEGs, and can produce better results when edited.

Targeting Snow Leopard and Lion users with Aperture 3 and iPhoto 11 installed, Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.9 adds RAW image compatibility for the following cameras, according to Apple:

Canon PowerShot S100; Nikon 1 J1; Nikon 1 V1; Nikon COOLPIX P7100; Olympus PEN E-PL1s; Olympus PEN E-PL3; Olympus PEN E-PM1; Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ150; Sony Alpha NEX-5N; Sony Alpha SLT-A65; Sony Alpha SLT-A77.

As usual Apple directs customers to knowledge-base article HT4757 for more information on supported RAW formats.
