Non-jailbreak app hides stock iOS icons, goes against App Store guidelines

A rather interesting app which allowed owners of non-jailbroken phones to hide other apps on their iOS device has been promptly removed by Apple, after the company realized that its functionality went against the App Store guidelines.

Coded by a 15-year old developer named David Goelzhaeuser, HiddenApps was briefly available as a free download on iTunes yesterday, allowing anyone with an iOS 6 device to tuck away apps like Game Center, Passbook, and Stocks.

For iPhone owners who never use some Apple apps, the tool was extremely useful, especially considering that it didn’t required the user to jailbreak their device to achieve the benefits.

Unfortunately, Apple pulled it because it didn’t comply with the company’s App Store rules.

For those who managed to snag it in the nick of time, the app also opens up access to the hidden Field Test app, and can even disable iAds.

On jailbroken units, respringing will cancel the changes. On non-jailbroken devices, only a reboot wipes out the tweak.
