Apple is expanding its Support / AppleCare offerings with several new perks, including online chat (at the customers initiative) and, more recently, the ability to quickly troubleshoot simple issues with an assistant online.

The initiative aims to save you a trip to the store, especially if you have a simple problem to troubleshoot, such as issues with iTunes and iCloud, or any hurdles you may be experiencing trying to log in with your Apple ID.

The quick-assist service isn’t limited to these products, though. According to Apple, “Whether you’re having trouble with Apple hardware, software, or services - like iTunes, iCloud, and Apple ID - you can get help on the phone or through online chat.”

Apple believes this type of support is the best choice, because it’s coming “from the people who know Apple products best.” The company also offers the usual option to make a reservation and visit the Genius Bar at your local store.
