With the release of Mountain Lion last year, Apple took out Workgroup Manager from OS X Server and slid in Profile Manager, a much more efficient configuration and management tool.

A newly updated Support document on Apple.com reveals that Workgroup Manager is no longer included with OS X Server, now at version 3.0.1 (Mavericks standard time) on the Mac App Store.

“To administer iOS and OS X systems, use Profile Manager included with OS X Server,” Apple says. Profile Manager delivers configuration profiles and Mobile Device Management (MDM) for Macs running OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, and iOS devices.”

The company also notes that Profile Manager can be used for mail, calendars, contacts, and chat, enforcement of restrictions, and much more. But if you absolutely must use the tool, a legacy version is available from Apple, according to the Cupertino giant. You can also download Workgroup Manager from Softpedia.
