Probably one of the worst ideas Apple has had in the past decade, Ping was supposed to emerge as this hip social network for music lovers, blending key elements from Facebook and Twitter into one neat interface in iTunes.
The idea sounded good at first. But it didn’t pick up Steam. Two years into its existence, Apple is pulling the plug.
“Ping will no longer be available as of September 30,” reads a message from the Mac makers. “Thank you for your interest in Ping. We are no longer accepting new members.”
I’m sure there are many people who actually loved Ping. However, there are ten times more people who don’t like Apple’s music-centric social network all that much. In fact, most people just don’t care about it. That’s what mostly killed it.
