According to a new rumor, Apple and Foxconn have held secret meetings to discuss HDTV displays for a widely reported (yet unconfirmed) iTV product.

Patently Apple cites Taiwanese sources as saying that Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou met with Apple executives earlier this month to discuss HDTV displays for Apple's future iTV.

The meeting reportedly took place in Japan, and the talks involved “a tenth generation flat panel plant in Sakai in western Japan.”

Unfortunately there is no link to the original source, so we’ll have to take the site’s patently word for it.

The source adds that “Chairman Gou showed Apple ‘a product’ to indicate the Sakai plant would be able to supply Apple with enough panels for the iTV.”

The plant previously belonged to Sharp, and Chairman Gou “supposedly” has a personal stake in this plant.

The original report also states that the iTV panels will be produced at the Sakai plant, that the iTV is still in the design stage, and that we won’t be hearing any solid details on this deal until 2014.
