Mac apps eligible to participate in the Volume Purchase Program for Business and Education

Apple has announced that Mac apps will soon enter the Volume Purchase Program for Business and Education, just like major OS releases. The program allows institutions to purchase multiple copies of an app at once.

Developers selling Mac apps are told in a brief email from the App Store Team that “You may also offer a discount to educational institutions for multiple purchases.”

If the seller chooses to offer a volume discount for a certain title, the party that buys 20 or more copies in a single order will benefit from a 50 percent discount.

If you’re already selling an app in the Mac App Store and want to offer a discount for education, you’ll need to check “Discount for Educational Institutions” in the Rights and Pricing section of the Manage Your Apps module on iTunes Connect.

Developers looking to find more information on the volume purchases are encouraged to visit Apple Volume Purchase Program for Education.
