You’d be inclined to think Apple’s PR department had the entire weekend off, as the company’s press room has just churned up the formal acknowledgement that its App Store has topped 25 billion downloads. But you’d be wrong.

Apple had already announced hitting the milestone on Saturday morning, featuring a special promo on the home page of Apple.com with a formal thank you to developers and iOS customers alike.

Today’s press release, however, has the main purpose of announcing the winner of the 25 Billion app competition which yielded a $10,000 iTunes gift card for a certain Chunli Fu of Qingdao, China. The lucky app was “Where's My Water?”, by Disney.

Apple’s announcement reads: “The 25 billionth app downloaded, Where's My Water? Free, was downloaded by Chunli Fu of Qingdao, China. As the winner of the App Store Countdown to 25 Billion Apps, Chunli Fu will receive a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card.”
