The iPad mini / nano is still on the table, according to people with alleged knowledge of the hardware, with a planned release date for October, around the same time Apple reportedly plans to unveil updated iMacs and Mac Pros.

The sources in question are telling Fudzilla that “Apple will be dropping an iPad Mini in October in order to retain its dominance in the tablet space,” and that the tablet will be targeted “directly at the incoming flux of lower-end $299 tablets.”

The company reportedly aims to be “very clear” in differentiating the capabilities of the smaller tablet and its much more powerful 10-inch siblings.

In accordance with most rumors on the matter, “the iPad Mini would sport a 7.85 inch display with 8GB of flash storage and would retail at a $299 price point,” the sources reportedly said.
