The company essentially sold two iPads for every Android slate

We're having a hard time believing that, even with all the marketing and promotions on the part of notebook and mobile companies, Apple's tablet share still increased compared to 2011.

Still, that's what Strategy Analytics claims to have found after studying the shipments in the second quarter of 2012 (April-June).

While 7.3 million Android tablets isn't a small number, it is dwarfed by the 17 million iPads sold within the same time frame.

The number places Apple at 68.3% of the market, higher than the 62% in 2Q11.

Android sales managed to keep their 29.3% share, which means that Microsoft Windows tablets got the short straw.

At this point, Microsoft's Surface and the other Windows 8/RT tablets are the only ones expected to have a shot at changing the market dynamics.
