New in iKanji 2.0 (Mar 20, 2013)

  • New features:
  • Welcome screen now has kanji and vocab of the day in place of the beta message
  • Up-to-date help documentation is now available
  • Issues fixed since Beta 3:
  • Bug saving vocab sets fixed
  • Removing user added vocab from the main set will now remove it from other sets as well
  • Importing and exporting kanji notes now works again

New in iKanji 2 Beta 3 (Mar 14, 2013)

  • Fixes a problem training kanji with no readings of one type (kun/on)
  • Adds more vocabulary so nearly all kanji now have at least one word
  • Adds new search result set to make training searched kanji possible
  • Fixes an issue where searching would fail if the practice set was selected
  • Sparkle (built-in automatic) updates will now work for future updates
  • Adding Sparkle support necessitated disabling sandboxing (this will apply to the non-App Store version and betas only)
  • Training progress, practice sets etc will not carry over from previous betas as they are in the sandbox container for iKanji which is no longer used. It is possible to manually copy over the resources if you know what you're doing.
  • If you've bought an iKanji 2 license (thank you!) you'll need to re-register it with the app

New in iKanji 1.4.1 (Nov 24, 2010)

  • The first change you’ll see is the redesigned welcome screen and if you’ve not purchased yet you’ll be greeted with the new trial limitation and registration system. Rather than limit which kanji sets you can practice, iKanji now limits you to running the app for 10 minutes at a time. As with iKana 2 it’s now much easier to install your license after purchasing, just drag and drop into the licensing window.
  • Most of the rest of changes are a bit less visible – the kanji database has undergone a big overhaul. It now includes all the new 2010 Jōyō kanji and has a new Jōyō kanji set to show them all off in. I’ve also stripped out all the WWWJDIC sourced example compounds as too many of them were obscure.
  • There are now less compounds, just under 7,700, but the bonus is they’re now commonly used words. This is paving the way towards an iKana 2 style vocabulary trainer in a future version of iKanj

New in iKanji 1.3.1 (Sep 3, 2009)

  • A quick fix for iKanji 1.3 that addresses a problem using the test modules under Snow Leopard (only a blank window would open when choosing a test).

New in iKanji 1.3 (Jul 31, 2009)

  • Contains some new features and a larger selection of stroke animations.

New in iKanji 1.2 (Apr 16, 2009)

  • iKanji now contains over 820 stroke animations.
  • The selection of example compounds has been improved.
  • Adds an import and export function for kanji notes to allow them to be shared more easily.
  • Improves the way example compounds are picked for each kanji which usually results in there being more examples per kanji.

New in iKanji 1.1 (Nov 17, 2008)

  • More stroke animations in this release.
  • The stroke recorder is also much improved now too, you can draw straight lines and then add points to them to make adjustments and to smooth stroke animations.
  • In fact I went back and improved all the existing stroke animations too.
  • I've migrated iKanji from XML storage to a SQLite database behind the scenes which means memory usage should be a bit lower and loading and saving a bit faster.
