Xtags for QuarkXPress Changelog

What's new in Xtags for QuarkXPress 3.10.1

Jan 20, 2017
  • Fixes the handling of at-signs (@) in content by changing a longstanding policy that gave all unescaped at-signs a chance at being a paragraph style application (like @headline:). Now, for tags marked as version 7.00 and later with the tag, and for tags not marked with a version, only at-signs at the very start of a paragraph are treated as style applications, while at-signs at any other location are treated only as literals. At-signs in legacy tags (those prior to version 7.00) work as they always have.

New in Xtags for QuarkXPress 3.10 (May 27, 2016)

  • Adds support for QuarkXPress 2016. The QuarkXPress 2016 XTension requires a valid Xtags 2016-level license. Please contact our sales department to purchase an upgrade license or to obtain a free upgrade if you purchased Xtags within the last nine months.
  • Removes support for QuarkXPress 9. Download links for Xtags 3.9.5, the final version for QuarkXPress 9, can be found in the side-bar on the Xtags 3.9.5 Release page. While we will no longer fix problems in or add features to this older version, we will otherwise provide normal support indefinitely.
  • Fixes a problem where picture attributes (like scaling, rotation, etc.) could be lost during an import if QuarkXPress’s Maintain Picture Box Attributes preference setting wasn’t enabled. Picture box attributes are now kept regardless of QuarkXPress’s preference setting.

New in Xtags for QuarkXPress 3.9.4 (Oct 10, 2015)

  • Changes:
  • Fixes problems with importing and applying OpenType features with .

New in Xtags for QuarkXPress 3.9.3 (Aug 19, 2015)

  • This patch release addresses a problem with importing from multi-page PDF files:
  • Fixes a problem introduced in the 3.5 release where only the first page of a PDF could ever be imported. A picture box tag’s (&pb, &pbu, and &pbu2) PDF page number parameter is no longer ignored.

New in Xtags for QuarkXPress 3.9.1 (Jun 12, 2015)

  • Enables the import of nested tags for new-to-QuarkXPress 10 nested anchored boxes. (The output of nested tags was already allowed for better compatibility with Xtags for InDesign.) (QuarkXPress 10 & 2015 only)
  • Restores the output of &Ce tags, inadvertently removed by the 3.8 release, for Xcatalog text selection links.

New in Xtags for QuarkXPress 3.8.4 (Feb 14, 2015)

  • Adds support for QuarkXPress 10 for Mac OS X. The QuarkXPress 10 XTension requires a valid Xtags 10-level license. Please contact our sales department to purchase an upgrade license or to obtain a free upgrade if you purchased Xtags within the last six months.
  • Requires QuarkXPress 10.2 or later—these XTensions will fail to load in versions prior to 10.2. Note that Quark provides free upgrades from earlier versions of 10.x to 10.5, the latest version.
  • Fixes a problem introduced in Xtags 3.7 where placing an anchored table could cause QuarkXPress to shut down.

New in Xtags for QuarkXPress 3.8.1 (May 24, 2014)

  • Fixes a problem introduced in 3.8 where using File > Save Text with Xtags… would always produce a “File not found. (-43)” alert. (Windows only)

New in Xtags for QuarkXPress 3.8 (May 1, 2014)

  • Removes support for QuarkXPress 8. Download links for Xtags 3.7, the final version for QuarkXPress 8, can be found in the side-bar on the Xtags 8.3.7 Release page. While we will no longer fix problems in or add features to this older version, we will continue to support the people using it.
  • Fixes a problem where picture imports of long-but-valid HFS-style file paths containing forward slashes would fail.
  • Adds support for QuarkXPress 7′s \a XPress Tag (en dash).

New in Xtags for QuarkXPress 3.7 (Jan 17, 2013)

  • Adds a new C code letter for the sizing specs field of an anchored or as-anchored box tag’s width and height parameters. C may not be combined with S or R but may be used with F to size the box’s contents to the column as well. Sizing-to-column is allowed for anchored box tags, as-anchored box tags (unanchored, but with both x and y parameters left empty), and line tags.
  • Unlike S, which is only allowed to shrink a box, C is only allowed to grow a box to fit its column. Thus, its initial size is its minimum size, and what was the minimum (4th) parameter therefore becomes the box’s maximum size.
  • For example, would create an anchored frame with its width sized to the insertion point’s column, with the picture’s width scaled to the frame’s (and therefore the column’s) width, and with the frame’s height set to that of the picture.
  • Removes Xcatalog’s link marker guard characters (for Xcatalog’s enhanced text link editability feature) from copied/saved tagged text so that tags for catalog links aren’t littered with unnecessary ‘s.
  • Fixes a problem where OpenType features tags (o(...)) were being generated with incorrect feature names.

New in Xtags for QuarkXPress 8/9.3.6 (Aug 8, 2012)

  • Added support for relative line sizing, so that relatively-placed lines can now be sized relative to their referenced boxes. Lines always shrink (they never grow) towards their start point (the referenced corner) and their direction is always maintained.
  • Added support for UNIX/POSIX-style paths (like “/Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users/Chris/Pictures/Rhubarb.jpg”). Note that, for backward compatibility with MacOS/HFS-style paths, a path must contain at least one slash (/) and may contain no colons (:) to be treated as a POSIX-style path. (Mac only)
  • Fixed a long-standing problem where a relatively-placed box could, in rare situations, be sized incorrectly.
  • Restored support for the box lock flag.

New in Xtags for QuarkXPress 8/9.3.5.1 (Jan 25, 2012)

  • Fixed support for universal serial numbers.

New in Xtags for QuarkXPress 8/9.3.5 (May 10, 2011)

  • Adds support for QuarkXPress 9 to that for QuarkXPress 8 and drops support for both QuarkXPress 6 and 7.
  • With this release, the QuarkXPress 9 XTension now requires a valid Xtags 9 serial number.

New in Xtags for QuarkXPress 6/7/8.3.4 (Jan 20, 2011)

  • Added native support for hyperlinks and text anchors.
  • Added support for multiple imports into named boxes via a new "@xtagsimport" parameter modifier (Server only). Note that hard errors (like not found, not a text box, not found or import failure) are ignored. (Which also mimics the Modifier XT, and allows all imports to complete as best they can.)
  • Addressed a performance issue in Q7/8 so that text containing anchored boxes now imports just about as quickly as it does in Q4/6.
  • Made Pro features (table generation, namely) available in Demo mode.
