XProof Changelog

What's new in XProof 7.3.1

Aug 24, 2012
  • Updated to the latest PostScript engine which corrects processing of certain files and greatly improves processing time for many files.
  • Updated the PPD that is installed by the installer from 2.0 to 3.0. It should have been at 3.0 starting with version 7.2.
  • Updated the user manual with the dongle installer change and fixed a broken link.
  • Fixed a tag inside the PPD installed by the application.
  • 32-bit RGB TIFFs now appear with a status of Unsupported File.
  • Users will be given another 15-day demo period with this version.

New in XProof 6.1.1 (Apr 17, 2009)

  • Fixed problems with InDesign CS3 and CS4 prints with crops or bleeds appearing at the wrong size within the RIP. When this happened jobs were cutoff.
  • Fixed problems wprint with tearing.

New in XProof 6.1 (Mar 11, 2009)

  • ColorBurst now supports additional file formats. These include PSD, Camera Raw, PNG, BMP, JPEG2000 and several others. When users launch this version for the first time, existing items in the Job List or Done List will be moved to the Error Folder. If you have an important file you want to keep, drag it out of the list into the Finder using the current version. After launching the new version of the RIP you can drag this item back into the Job List.
  • Users no longer need to create a defined-by-driver paper size when printing to ColorBurst from most applications! Instead, select custom from within the print dialog to automatically set the document size. This greatly simplifies the print process. Please review the documentation within the folder "Printing From Applications" for updated procedures for designing and printing files to the RIP.
  • Fixed numerous bugs regarding file size and positioning on HM and non-HM printers. Be sure to follow the updated procedures as defined in the documentation within the "Printing From Applications" folder.
  • PDF files will now appear in the RIP List with the correct initial orientation.
  • Discovered and fixed the problem where install folders can become corrupt to the point where a re-install was necessary to get the application working again. This code change fixes the crash. For older versions deleting the Hot Folder will correct the problem.
  • Fixed a problem with auto centering with only trim lines enabled.
  • Fixed a problem where large custom color bars were not printing properly; they would occasionally print with an extra vertical advance in the middle of the color bar.
  • A PostScript file (PS or EPS) with Use Page Settings enabled cannot be rotated to another orientation within the RIP (i.e. its orientation is fixed). Users have two options: rotate the file in the sending application to the desired orientation or disable Use Page Settings.
  • A PostScript file (PS or EPS) with Use Page Settings enabled, will have Auto Rotate disabled.
  • Altered the Eye-One iO Linearization Target that is added to the RIP List when using Print Linearization Target to match the one within the Images and Targets folder. The previous target was not correct and caused problems when reading the target.
  • SpectralVision Pro has been updated to version 2.5.2 which fixes the problem where you could no longer save .ctg files for use with Print Certification.

New in XProof 6.0.4 (Dec 23, 2008)

  • Added a permission check within the ColorBurst folder at startup of the application. If there is suffifient permissions, the application
  • will launch, otherwise the user will get a dialog explaining the problem and a solution.
  • Updated the installer to set permissions within the ColorBurst folder as it is being installed.

New in XProof 6.0.3 (Dec 19, 2008)

  • Fixed a problem where Bonjour could not resolve the IP address of the printer when running on 10.5.6.
  • Fixed a display bug where version 6 serial numbers were displaying as version 5 serial numbers within the About box.

New in XProof 6.0.2 (Dec 12, 2008)

  • Added an Advanced File Attributes dialog. This dialog allows you to override the width, height and positioning of a particular job. Once altered the original size is overwritten and the item's size is changed to reflect its new dimensions. This dialog is accessed via the Advanced button at the bottom of the File Attributes dialog. This button is available only when a PostScript or EPS document is double-clicked in the Job or Done lists. Users should exercise extreme caution when using this dialog since it could cause problems printing your image.
  • Added a check for an existing printer before attempting to add a printer to the system. We do this at startup of the app. This was creating problems for non-admin users. Starting with Mac OS X 10.5.x, you now need to authenticate each time you add a printer (due to security issues). In a computer lab environment this can be a problem to authenticate each time the application is launched. This new check to see if the printer already exists fixes this problem.
  • Added a 'Launch SpectralVision Pro' menu item to the Application Menu between 'PrintCertification Manager' and 'Preferences'. When chosen this will run the SpectralVision Pro application. When printing to the Epson SP7900 or SP9900 printers, the Linearization Tab within the Ink & Color Settings dialog is dimmed. Since users cannot get to the 'Launch SpectralVision Pro' button within this tab, we have provided another way to launch SpectralVision Pro.
  • Updated SpectralVision Pro to version 2.5.1. This version fixed connectivity problems with the Eye-One spectrophotometer and updated targets and corresponding definition files for the Eye-One iO atarget for PrintCertification was also updated.

New in XProof 6.0.1 (Dec 5, 2008)

  • Fixed a problem where certain PostScript jobs were not being processed but were being moved to the error folder instead.
  • Fixed a problem when printing a multi-page PDF with a PDF peripheral job. The first page would print correctly, but on subsequent pages the peripheral job would not print. This has now been fixed.

New in XProof 5.8.6 (Nov 25, 2008)

  • When printing to various printers with Page Settings enabled and the height set in Margin mode, an extra bottom margin was being printed. This has now been fixed for all printers. This was ONLY a problem for non-HM printers.
  • Fixed a problem when printing with a Margin of 0 inches.
  • Fixed a problem where the page height was not being computed correctly with Page Settings enabled and Margin used for the height component of the dimensions. This caused the printer to print a small portion of the job (about one inch).

New in XProof 5.8.5 (Nov 14, 2008)

  • Fixed a problem with some PostScript files that were missing any bounding box information. Jobs would print completely (or partially) blank. Examples included files from FileMaker and Photoshop.

New in XProof 5.8.4 (Nov 6, 2008)

  • Jobs printing with a small spurious line on the right side of the print should now be fixed for both HM and non-HM printing.
  • Fixed numerous problems when printing jobs with Trim Lines, Job Titles and ColorBars enabled in various combinations at all rotations. There were fixes for both HM and non-HM printers.
  • Fixed a problem where peripheral jobs were not printing in the same location from page to page in a multi-copy job.
  • Fixed a problem with the Center with Offset option where it was not producing the correct page size.
  • Fixed problems when printing PostScript files with initial offsets.
  • Fixed a problem where HM printing to the SP11880 was broken.
  • Fixed a problem where trim lines were printing at 720 dpi regardless of printed resolution. This would cause the lines not to extend the full width of the print job. This only affected non-HM printing.
  • Jobs with trim lines only (no other peripherals) will now print correctly. Previously, these jobs would print without the trim lines.
  • Fixed all combinations of rotation and positioning (center, center with offset, and manual positioning) with HM printers.
  • Fixed a crash when printing with Page Settings and Trim Lines only. This would crash non-HM printers only.
  • Fixed a problem with a particular file that was using a primary color as a spot color. The file was not processing correctly.
  • Suppressed the "Environment used previously was not found" dialog for launches with NO preference file. This was creating confusion for some users.
  • Fixed problem where there was a 1/16th inch gap between the bottom of the image and the peripheral jobs (if requested) when printing using HM PlugIns.
  • Fixed a problem where the demo installer was failing on machines that did not have the dongle driver loaded. The demo version does not require a dongle so this was an erroneous test.
  • Fixed a problem where some users running under non-administrative accounts were experiencing crashes. The underlying problem has been fixed in two ways so this should not be a problem again.
  • Fixed another problem with files names using high-ascii characters (such as ë or ü) to non-HM printers.
  • Fixed a problem with occasional crashes when jobs had been canceled or the printer was not responding (for a multitude of reasons).
  • Fixed a problem where jobs were not printing when there were NO peripherals at the top of the job. This also fixed a problem where non-HM jobs were not printing with the correct vertical positioning when auto centered.
  • Fixed a problem with borderless printing on non-HM printers.

New in XProof 5.8.3 (Sep 19, 2008)

  • Fixed a hang at the end of a print job when running with 10.5.5.

New in XProof 5.8.2 (Sep 18, 2008)

  • Fixed a problem where a particular multipage PDF file was crashing the RIP.
  • Fixed a problem where an element within a particular PDF file was not printing at all.
  • For the HM printers (SP11880HM, SP7900 and SP9900) a problem where a spurious line could appear on the right side of the image was fixed. The line is perpendicular to the direction of the print head and appeared randomly just beyond the image area.
