  • This update fixes bugs and improves compatibiltiy with OS X Yosemite. This update also changes the default shortcuts to reduce clashes with other apps, this will only affect you if you decide to reset your shortcuts.

New in Optimal Layout 2.3.1 Build 840 (Jun 4, 2014)

  • The main focus of this update address is to address performance and stability issues casued by the tab listing.
  • The following significant changes have been made:
  • Google Chrome's tabs are no longer listed by default.
  • You can re-enable them in Optimal Layout's Preferences, in the Ignored Windows section.
  • Unfortunately Google Chrome tab listing significantly slowed Optimal Layout and may cause crashes.
  • Listing tabs must be explicitly requested each time Optimal Layout is activated (shortcut: option-S by default).
  • Again, this will improve Optimal Layout's responsiveness.
  • The following minor changes have also been made:
  • Fixed the grid display preference. It can now be correctly set to always display the grid, only on mouse over, or completely disabled.
  • Optimal Layout's own window can now be resized from any edge.
  • In Preferences the window list and preview settings have been logically re-arranged. The About Preference tab has also been tidied up.

  • The list of tabs from Safari, Terminal & Chrome are now retrieved on a background thread, improving Optimal Layout's overall responsiveness.
  • Stopped searching tabs when it's not set in Preferences.
  • Tearing off a Chrome tab to its own window should now show the window correctly listed by Optimal Layout.
  • The preview of a freshly positioned window now correctly reflects the new position.
  • Fix for a background crash.

  • The Optimal Layout shortcut for making a window full screen now acts as a toggle to exit full screen windows.
  • The shortcut for moving a window between displays now moves it to proportionately the same position on the next display.
  • Fixed bug where moving window between displays caused Optimal Layout's preview to show it on the old display.
  • When positioning a window, it no longer gets hidden behind other windows.
  • Many more bug fixes for moving windows and resizing windows.

  • When search field is focussed, you now use the command-' shortcut to open preferences

  • Set filter on windows > Status window level to stop some temporary windows being listed
  • Added instructions to the Ignored Windows Preference.
