New in ViewNX 1.5.0 (Nov 26, 2009)

  • Support for the D3S has been added.
  • Support for 64-bit versions of Windows Vista has been added. However, the software operates as with 32-bit systems.
  • Support for Mac OS X version 10.5.8 has been added.
  • Support for a function that allows position information taken from a GPS log to be written to image GPS tags has been added.
  • Various GPS information from a GPS log saved by a commercial GPS unit (receiver) or cellular telephone with GPS support can be added all at once to images.
  • The following GPS log formats are supported.
  • NMEA-format files (.nmea, .nma, .log file extensions)
  • GPX-format files (.gpx file extension)
  • Support for Epson E-Photo has been added. E-Photo is a printing utility bundled with Seiko Epson Corporation’s inkjet printer drivers.
  • An issue that sometimes resulted in decreased resolution, depending upon the pixel count entered, of image copies created using the “Convert Files” function has been resolved.
  • When lateral color aberration compensation was applied to RAW images then edited and saved using ViewNX Ver. 1.1.1 or Ver. 1.2.0, lateral color aberration compensation was sometimes not applied. This issue has been resolved.

  • Adds support for D300s, D3000, Coolpix S570, S640, S70, and S1000pj
  • A Send notification mail to my address (Email ID) checkbox has been added to the Share Settings dialog displayed with the my Picturetown upload function.  
  • New Album is now displayed in the Subject (Required) text box in the Share Settings dialog displayed with the my Picturetown upload function.
  • An issue that prevented printing at paper sizes of A2 (420 x 594 mm) and larger has been resolved.   
However, images may not print correctly if the Rotate to fit box in the Print dialog is checked.  
  • Error message "ViewNX has encountered a problem and needs to close" was displayed and ViewNX quit unexpectedly when attempting to print images after opening the Page Setup dialog from the File menu.  This issue has been resolved.  
  • Errors in the explanation of axial color aberration compensation in ViewNX Help have been corrected.  
  • When Index Print was selected from the Print As: pulldown menu in the Print dialog and the back or next arrow for the print preview was clicked, a portion of the preview image was displayed as completely white, and the printed image exhibited the same completely white portion.  This issue has been resolved.  
  • When RAW (NEF/NRW) images were converted to JPEG format from the Convert Files dialog, some converted images exhibited a red cast in thumbnail.  This issue has been resolved.

New in ViewNX 1.3.0 (Mar 31, 2009)

  • NRW-format RAW images captured with the COOLPIX P6000 can now be edited.
  • All image enhancement functions in the Quick Adjustment palette are now supported by both NRW and NEF RAW images.
  • (Exposure Comp., White Balance, Picture Control*, Sharpness, Contrast, Brightness, Highlight/Shadow Protection, D-Lighting HS, Color Booster, Axial Color Aberration)
  • *COOLPIX Picture Controls are not supported.
  • Brightness can now be adjusted from the Quick Adjustment palette.

  • A View Path function, which allows multiple shooting locations to be connected via a straight line, automatic scrolling of the map according to the route indicated by the line, and display of images along the route in the order in which they were captured has been added to the GeoTag function.
  • A function that supports searches by region name been added to the GeoTag function.
  • Enter a regional name or address in the text box and click Search Maps.
  • A search on the regional name or address is performed and that location is displayed.
  • A Restore Original… option has been added to the Edit menu.
  • If backups of JPEG or TIFF images were saved prior to performing adjustments, these images can be restored to their original state.
  • A Thumbnail List option has been added to the status bar in Thumbnail View Mode.
  • When converting files to another format, the converted files can now be saved in the same folder as the original images or in a separate folder specified by the user.
  • If the modified date and time of simultaneously recorded RAW (NEF) and JPEG images differs, these images can now be displayed as a single image or displayed as separate images by checking or unchecking, respectively, the Do not display as a single file if the images were saved at different times checkbox in the NEF + JPEG menu in the Options/Preferences panel.
  • Default folders can now be displayed or not displayed by checking or unchecking, respectively, the Display default folders checkbox in the Favorite Folders menu in the Options/Preferences panel.
  • Original name+New name and New name+Original name options have been added to the prefix and suffix portions of the File Naming menu in the Options/Preferences panel.
  • A Do not add trailing number option has been added when Date Shot is selected for the middle portion of folder names in the Folder Naming dialog.
  • An Export File & Camera Information… option has been added to the File menu.
  • This option exports file and camera information for the selected file or files in .TXT (tab delimited) or .CSV (comma delimited) format.
  • An XMP/IPTC Preset menu has been added to Options/Preferences.
  • The maximum number of prints that can be specified in the Print dialog has been changed to 99.
  • Support for Picture Mail has been added to the my Picturetown upload function.
  • A shared icon is now displayed with albums that have been shared using the my Picturetown upload function.

  • When the RAW button was clicked for a RAW image captured with the D60 with Active D-Lighting enabled, the image was, in some rare cases, not properly displayed. This issue has been resolved.
  • When the RAW button is clicked for an NEF- or NRW-format RAW image to show RAW data, lateral color aberration compensation is now applied.

New in ViewNX 1.2.0 (Oct 1, 2008)

  • Image display support for NRW-format RAW images captured with the P6000 has been added. However, these images cannot be developed or edited.
  • A GeoTag icon has been added to the toolbar.
  • Based on the GPS information embedded with capture, shooting location can now be indicated on maps using Web Mapping services. In addition, GPS data can now be added to images captured with cameras that do not offer a GPS function or those to which geotag information has not been attached, by confirming shooting locations on the map.
  • A myPicturetown icon has been added to the toolbar. Files can now be uploaded to myPicturetown by simply clicking this icon.
  • IPTC information can be copied and/or pasted. Select the image containing the XMP/IPTC information to be copied, and then select Copy IPTC Information from the Edit menu. Select the image(s) to which XMP/IPTC information will be pasted choose Paste IPTC Information from the Edit menu. XMP/IPTC information copied to the clipboard will be saved to the selected image(s).
  • File and camera information for a particular category (File Info 1, File Info 2, Camera Info, etc.) displayed in the Metadata palette can now be copied via context menus.
  • Sharpness, Contrast, Highlight Protection, and Shadow Protection adjustment functions have been added to the Quick Adjustment palette.
  • Fine Adjustment, and Tint adjustment functions have been added to the White Balance section of the Quick Adjustment palette.
  • When Use Gray Point is selected for adjusting white balance from the Quick Adjustment palette, the size of the point can now be selected from 3 pixel sizes.
  • In Full Screen display mode, file order / total file number is now displayed in the bottom bar.
  • In Full Screen and Image Viewer modes, the zoom ratio is now shown.
  • Two separate image rotation icons, Rotate 90° CW and Rotate 90° CCW, are now available in the toolbar. A Rotate 180° has also been added to the context menu*.
  • Full screen slideshows of all images can now be displayed when no images or just one image is selected in the Thumbnail area.
  • When a window is displayed on the secondary monitor in a multiple-screen environment, the display profile can now be changed to that of the secondary display profile.
  • Map Datum and Altitude Reference items have been added to the GPS information displayed in the Metadata palette.

New in ViewNX 1.1.0 (May 29, 2008)

  • Support for Mac OS X version 10.5.2 (Leopard) has been added
  • Configuration of the Navigation Palette has been changed to consist of Folders, Metadata, and Quick Adjustment palettes.
  • The Folders palette displays a folder tree, making it easy to find and display folders containing images. In addition, folders that are frequently accessed can be added to a list of favorite folders.
  • The Metadata palette displays a variety of information about images, including information such as file name and image size; camera info such as shooting date, the model used, lens information, focal length, sensitivity settings, exposure mode and shutter speed. XMP/IPTC information, such as keywords, description, creator, and origin can also be displayed, and edited and saved to image files.
  • The Quick Adjustment palette allows for adjustment of exposure compensation and white balance settings with RAW (NEF) images. Picture Controls are available for enhancing images. Gradation and Saturation can also be adjusted using the D-Lighting HS and Color Booster enhancements with RAW (NEF), JPEG, and TIFF images.
  • A Favorites folder pane has been added at the top of the Navigation Palette�s Folders palette.
  • Support for optional Picture Controls has been added. When optional Picture Controls are installed, these are added to the Picture Controls list in the Quick Adjustments palette, and can be applied to images.
  • D-Lighting HS and Color Booster features have been added for image adjustment and enhancement. When RAW (NEF) images saved using Capture NX is displayed in ViewNX, only the preview image within RAW (NEF) images is displayed.
  • When two monitors are used, a Thumbnails and Full Screen option in the Thumbnail Control bar allows thumbnails to be displayed in the primary monitor and full-screen images to be displayed in the secondary monitor.
  • Support for audio files recorded using voice recording features has been added. An icon indicating an audio file is displayed in the Thumbnail Grid, allowing for audio playback of the file.
  • A Recycle Bin button has been added to the Bottom bar.
  • An option has been added that displays an alert when image files captured with the image authentication feature enabled are edited.
  • A None option has been added to the middle name of the rule displayed in the File Naming dialog.
  • Show Movies and Show Voice Recordings options have been added to the options available from the Thumbnail Control bar in Thumbnail Grid and Image Viewer modes. If movies or voice recordings are not displayed, check the Show Movies or Show Voice Recordings option in the Thumbnail Control bar.
  • A Tooltip that displays file information when the mouse cursor is positioned over a file name in Thumbnail Grid and Image Viewer modes has been added.
  • The previous Camera Settings and XMP/IPTC Information palettes have been combined in a Metadata palette that now displays File & Camera Information and XMP/IPTC Information.
  • When voice recording files are selected, File (file name), Date Created, and Date Modified, File Size items have been added to the information displayed in File Info 1 in the Metadata palette.
  • A feature has been added that displays image information for image and movie files in the upper left corner of the Image View area when the i button in the Image Control bar is clicked in Image Viewer and Full Screen modes. Display of shooting information can also be enabled and disabled by pressing �I� on the keyboard.
  • The All Images option in the Edit menu has been moved to the Select Image submenu, and a Select All option has been added to the Edit menu.
  • 200% and 400% display options have been added to the display scales available in the Image View area in Image Viewer and Full Screen modes.
  • Individual R, G, B, and Brightness channels can now be displayed simultaneously with histogram display in the Image View area in Image Viewer and Full Screen modes. In addition, histogram display can now be enabled and disabled by pressing the SPACE key on the keyboard.
  • The label and rating box displayed at the bottom left of the slideshow window when slideshows were played has been eliminated. Image label and rating are now displayed in the Slide Control bar.
  • The minimum value that can be entered when changing image size with file conversion has been reduced to 320 pixels for either width or height, whichever is longer.
  • An issue that prevented display of accurate information in the Camera Settings palette for images captured in scene modes unique to the COOLPIX P80 and COOLPIX S520 has been resolved.

New in ViewNX 1.0.4 (Apr 17, 2008)

  • Support for RAW images captured with the D3 (firmware ver.1.10 and later), and the Vignette Control option enabled, has been added.
  • When images captured with a Nikon DSLR are selected, the following 9 categories are displayed in the Camera Settings palette: File Info 1 / File Info 2 / Camera Info / Exposure / Flash / Image Settings / Picture COntrol / Optimize Image / GPS
  • A Vignette Control item has been added to the Image Settings category of the Camera Settings palette.
  • Artist and Copyright items have been added to the File Info 2 category of the Camera Settings palette.
  • An issue that prevented proper display of JPEG images when a caertain display profile was selected in the Color Management panel of the Options dialog has been resolved.
