  • Full bootable backups: SmartBackup 2.2 now supports full bootable backups of your MacOSX volume while still offering timestamped archiving of changed and deleted items.
  • Network Backup: SmartBackup 2.2 includes several improvements to make network backup faster and support a wider range of network setups and drives.
  • Cleanup and Archiving: SmartBackups cleanup and archiving has been performance optimized and improved. Files are cleaned or archived if they do no longer exist or if they are no longer part of your backup set (including smart folders no longer finding an item). If you add excludes or smartfolder excludes to an existing backup, excluded files will be taken out of the backup for you at the next sync. Disabled backup items will be ignored during cleanup and their existing backup is left untouched.
  • Improved Metadata Support: SmartBackup preserves all important metadata of your backup items, from Spotlight comments, label colors, custom icons to ownership and permissions. Optionally it makes the backup public readable to keep restore simple. SmartBackup 2.2 offers additional improvements for special filetypes.
  • SuperUser: Since preservation of ownership etc. requires superuser privileges, you can now relaunch SmartBackup as the superuser after authentication, or automatically authenticate at each launch.
  • Automator: This release of SmartBackup also includes an updated Automator Action compatible with Tiger and Leopard.
  • Updated core: The new release also includes an updated core with makes SmartBackup more resource friendly and faster.
