SharpResize Changelog

What's new in SharpResize 2.3.0

Mar 20, 2020
  • Adds temperature slider to adjustments, for correcting white balance.
  • Adds option to custom additional format dialog for resize mode. Instead of custom formats being fixed as either crop or add, they can be set as 'same as main' so they'll get the same treatment (cropped or added) as whatever you've chosen in the interface for the main image. This is the default for that control in the format dialog.
  • Adds button to adjustment tab, beside the 'reset to defaults' button is a 'zero' button which resets all controls to zero, even if you have custom defaults.

New in SharpResize 2.2.1 (Mar 20, 2020)

  • Tweaks settings for brightness control so that it's a little more effective at raising or lowering the mid tones without affecting the extremes of dark and light.

New in SharpResize 2.2.0 (Mar 20, 2020)

  • Adds option (within additional formats) to set up a format specifying a maximum dimension in either direction (width or height, whichever is greater).
  • Fixes many small interface glitches, including: after saving a batch, the text below the image ("showing first of X images") may not match the image being displayed, after quitting and re-starting, the base height and width boxes may not have both been 'remembered' from the last session.

New in SharpResize 2.1.1 (Mar 20, 2020)

  • Fixes bug causing crash on new systems when performing batch operation and choosing to save in source directory
  • Fixes bug causing output files to be given the same file extension as the input file. This problem will only have been apparent if the output file format is set to be a different format from the input files.
  • In the case of one or more of the output images being larger in pixel terms than the input image, warning is shown to inform user that upscaling may result in the output image being less sharp than the input image. This warning has a 'do not show this again' option.

New in SharpResize 2.1.0 (Mar 20, 2020)

  • Adds adjustment slider for brightness. This is subtlely different from exposure.
  • Mojave dark-mode ready
  • Links within the app (help / documentation) updated to the secure (https) versions

New in SharpResize 2.0.2 Beta (Feb 16, 2018)

  • Adds button to create 'default adjustment settings'. If you always find yourself increasing the brightness or vibrance, then you can make those settings the default for any new image you open.
  • Fixes an issue with the App Store version. Sandboxing doesn't allow saving multiple images with modified names directly into the folder you choose. Therefore that option is disabled in the app store version and the setting defaults to creating a folder at the location you choose and then saving the multiple images within that folder (which was the default for that setting anyway).

New in SharpResize 2.0.1 Beta (May 31, 2017)

  • minor changes to layout & cosmetic stuff
  • adds licensing stuff, price less than previous version, 1.95 USD (licence for version 1 won't work in version 2)

New in SharpResize 2.0 (May 15, 2017)

  • Adds batch processing - drop multiple images to apply the resize / adjustments to all of them
  • Adds ability to specify additional sizes (previously only the @2x and @3x versions. Now any additional custom sizes can be saved, relative to the original image size or the primary resize, or an absolute size)
  • Handles retina screens. As an important principle, pixel sizes within SR are the actual dots within the image. If you're using a retina display, this should be autodetected, there's a preference for this. With this 'retina screen' preference on, SR will display the 2x version of the image (even if you've chosen not to save the 2x version). This is more convenient (you can see the image at the intended 1x display size, and you can also see the effects of the sharpening / adjustments at the correct resolution for your display). Remember that you will need to have the 2x option selected in your additional output sizes if you want to save the actual image that you're viewing while you're working.
  • Adds option of cropping the image, or adding space (black, white or grey), when the aspect ratio of the new sizes don't match the original
  • Changes layout to better fit on landscape screens when viewing larger images
  • Adds additional file types, png and tiff
  • Adds 'Vibrance' slider to adjustments. This is often a more pleasing effect than saturation, has little effect on skintones
  • Adds some preset filters - sepia, black and white, kodachrome, posterize.
  • Fixes problem, after being pasted, if constrain was checked, proportions wouldn't be constrained but existing height and width settings would be used
  • Reduces minimum jpg quality a little, making it possible to make smaller files
  • Adds context help

New in SharpResize 1.3.1 (Oct 15, 2015)

  • Adds support for print and vector formats: .eps, .ai, .pdf
  • NB for pdfs with more than one page, the image is made from the first page

New in SharpResize 1.3 (Oct 15, 2015)

  • Can automatically save a 2x version and 3x version of the image:
  • User still types size in old-style pixels or points
  • Preferences window added with checkboxes to choose whether to save 2x image and/or 3x image
  • Filename is chosen once by the user, -2x and -3x are appended automatically
  • Improvements to adjustments:
  • adds button to main window
  • adds 'done' button to HUD adjustments window (previously reset button was bottom-right and too easily mistaken for 'done')
  • changes brightness slider for exposure - works more closely to what the user expects
  • when adjustments window is finished with, adjustments are applied, even if 'preview' button was deselected at that point
  • adjustment sliders work continuously
  • No longer available in the app store - 2x and 3x feature incompatible with sandboxing (each filename would have to be chosen by the user which is unacceptable)

New in SharpResize 1.2 (Jan 29, 2014)

  • Adds adjustments; brightness, contrast, saturation (the latter can be used to remove colour)
  • Remembers settings
  • Adds menu items and keyboard shortcuts. Main controls have keyboard shortcuts for maximum productivity
  • Fixes problem where file could be saved without an extension (.jpg) if the user doesn't type one (Mavericks problem only)
  • Prevents problems that were being experienced when larger numbers with separators (eg 1,024) were in the size fields

New in SharpResize 1.1 Beta (Jan 7, 2014)

  • Fixes drag onto application icon not working
  • Fixes cmd-w not closing windows
  • Shows main window (if closed) when application becomes active
  • Fixes a rounding error which was causing a 1px error sometimes when constraining proportions
