New in PlaneShift 0.6.1 (Apr 15, 2014)

  • Main highlights:
  • Windows startup crash:One very nasty bug we had was just at client startup on Windows. An immediate crash which required you to launch the game multiple times before it was working. Finally this bug is fixed! Thanks to the Crystal Space team for the support.
  • Skill advancement: we're releasing one of the biggest changes in the gameplay of the last years: training a skill will now only happen through practice and there is no more the need for you to learn the theory from trainers. This means you'll be no longer required to go back and forth to the trainer to advance and you won't be required to spend Progression Points and money on it. Please note this is valid for Skills only (Blacksmithing, Sword, ...), but Stats (Agility, Intelligence, ...) continue to work as previously.
  • UI enhancements: Under Options>Interface>Shortcut Bar and Active Magic Window, you can find many new options to customize these two windows, in particular you can change the button size, text size, type of display and many other options. Check them all.
  • Art: Added three new skins which brings the total included in the client to five. Added item specific icons to display in the active magic window for items with magical (de)buffs, at the moment this does not include looted weapons but we hope to have support for that soon. Added/improved graphical effects for 10 spells. Added athanor mesh for alchemy. Added new warhammer and mace meshes. New spell icons. Merged some icons into a single file to improve performances.
  • Stability/Memory usage: We started to use a new static code analysis tool (Coverity). The tool revealed many problems, and the engine team fixed tons of memory leaks, pointer issues, variable initializations, numeric errors, memory bounds errors, and compiler warnings. This should improve stability of the client and lower memory leaks.
  • Natural Resources: Spawn locations of plants and plant parts have been reviewed and altered to improve visibility (some of them was spawning out of the map or in places unreachable by players). We also changed the difficulty levels required to harvest, some plants and metals will be easier to mine while other more precious will stay as hard as they are. The spawn times has been increased while still keeping it short enough so harvesting points will be easily identifiable, this was done to encourage use of harvest and mining.
  • Harvesting/Mining/Fishing: now the harvested/mined resources' qualities will be handed out with 5 step quality increase (e.g. 50, 55, 60, 65, ...). You can now harvest Treestem Wood and White Oak Wood! Find the right spot and type /harvest wood. Wood will be the main ingredient you need to craft bows and some wooden weapon parts.
  • Stamina: We revised the rules used to calculate stamina usage when casting spells and in combat.
  • Crafting: Due to a bug when two or more items were combined the output item's quality was equal to the highest quality item. Now the quality is generally averaged but favoring the mix of ingredients with the less quality difference. For example mixing a 200q and a 300q ingredient will result in a better quality than mixing a 50q and a 300q ingredient.
  • Sword Making: we have improved the consistency of many sword crafting techniques, especially for platinum steel swords (see bug tracker).
  • Bow Making: the data has been implemented but the crafting book will be available at the next settings update. So to craft your new bows you'll need to wait a bit, for now you will notice some new tools are available for purchase and some bows have changed their names to match the new dataset.
  • Previews:
  • Lockpicking: We added lockpicking as a new skill in game. We are working our way to make it fun and usable. Should be available shortly. You can use lockpicking to lock and unlock boxes. Locks have a strength which can be opened by equivalent skill rank.
  • New combat: You can see there are 5 new slots in the information window. Those represent the special attacks queue. The functionality is working already, but we need to add the special moves and the quests/trainers to provide those moves to you. At the moment you cannot use this function, but will be available in the future.
  • Other Enhancements and new features
  • Added a "/togglerun [run|walk]" user command. (feature req 5645)
  • Added /pet walk and /pet run commands.

New in PlaneShift 0.6.0 (Nov 23, 2013)

  • USER INTERFACE:
  • New Shortcut window. The quick spell bar has been combined with the shortcut bar. The new shortcut bar includes support for:
  • Icons in addition to text
  • Dragging of items from the spell book (the icon on the right) or inventory which will automatically generate use commands
  • Drag and drop of shortcuts to reorganise them (this option is toggled on/off with the lock icon)
  • Character specific shortcuts and key bindings. Now each char has its own set!
  • New active magic window. Whenever you have an active spell (buff or debuff) an icon will show in the active magic. Much more compact and user friendly than the old one. There are some known bugs in the bar, like the display of some icons may be duplicated.
  • Slight improvements to Quest book, guild window, chat window, options window.
  • "Basic chat" window removed to allow for setting of visible chat tabs without restarting the client.
  • Added ability to type in the chat window by just having the cursor over the chat window so you don't have to also click on it. This can be enabled in the advanced config chat window settings.
  • Added a new skin "Minimatuux", feedback is encouraged. You can select the new skin from the launcher.
  • GAMES AND MECHANISMS:
  • Added engine support for mechanisms. These allow developers to add items in the world, like giant boulders, which can be moved by players by pressing a button or moving a lever.
  • Added ability to "use" certain static objects in the world.
  • Enhanced mini game support.
  • MOVING OBJECTS:
  • Fixed support for 'sequences and triggers' to allow things like the wheels in the sewers to move again. This will allow in the future to add more interactive elements to the areas.
  • BIG BOSSES:
  • The game now supports scaling of characters, this will allow developers to create 'giant' or 'miniature' creatures from the current models. Hope to finally see some big bosses to fight!
  • ART:
  • Welcome the male Nolthrir! Complete with all standard animations, armour, robe, and some customization options.
  • Bracers now show for -all races-.
  • Icons now available for all bracers so you will no longer have a sack filled with pink rings.
  • The new "Ash brotherhood" lair.
  • A new map and a new creature, undisclosed at this time, will be available as part of an in game event very soon.
  • CRAFTING:
  • Many platinum-steel weapons have been made available for crafting (thanks to Tuathanach), you will find some of them are already available in the released crafting books (all common blades) while some (like axes and superior swords) will require new crafting books and will have to wait for a quest to introduce them.
  • All crafting, mining/harvesting and the Musical instruments now support the use of higher quality tools, in the future they will be available as quest rewards.
  • SPELLS:
  • 11 new spells added, some will require a new quest to introduce new glyphs not yet available. New spells include: spells able to morph the spellcaster, new low level direct damage spells for azure and brown way spells. A new spell able to "charm" weak monsters, this is experimental and will be the first of a new series of spells.
  • OTHERS:
  • Added a multiplayer minigame "Tic Tac Toe" in Kada'el tavern lower floor, right click on the right table to start playing with a friend.
  • CRASH REPORTING:
  • Added support for crash reporting to Linux and Window builds. Whenever your client crashes, it will send a report to us with the details, so it can be analyzed. We also have a server side component which lists the most frequent crashes, so we can focus on the high priority ones. Lots of thanks to Talad, Eredin and Jilare for getting this done.
  • ADDITIONAL CHANGES:
  • Settings:
  • Fixes to a number of in game books (bug #5338).

  • Fixed bug #6145 - Fixed the description to hops
  • Additional Art changes:
  • Four new book colours have been created and you can buy from Jayose.
  • Icons for numerous plants which just had a sack have been created, this should make searching through your herbal supplies easier.
  • Many of the old textures, like those on the Dermorian male torso, and leather torso armour had tiny spots of transparency which meant you could see through the character. 49 old textures with this problem have been fixed (bug #3745).
  • You might find your paths blocked in certain caves now by giant boulders, look for the nearby mechanism to move it out the way.
  • Ride animation was missing for rogues. That has been added now so for events, GMs can play mounted rogues and it won't look weird.
  • Improved graphic for Electrouch spell
  • NPC/Monster:
  • Puppy protection: many NPC behaviours have been updated so newly created characters will not be attacked by relatively weak (but aggressive) NPCs able to kill them. Examples are Arangmas and Rogue. Monsters in the wilderness areas (like ulbernauts) are meant to be dangerous and will not have puppy protection.
  • Monster rebalancing: some monster armour skill didn't match their natural armour type (for example it was light instead of medium), this has been fixed.
  • Another tribe added (the Ash Brotherhood) and many improvements to the tribal recipes and behaviours of the tribes already released.
  • Rules bug Fixes:
  • Fixed bug #5197 - We have greatly increased the number of platinum steel weapons you can craft.
  • Fixed bug #6167, #6202 - The Fear spell and other Dark Way spells will now work as designed.
  • Additional Engine changes:
  • An addition to the window for picking up custom numbers from a stack: it will now remember the last number you chose and not default to 1 each time.
  • Improvements to developer quest parser to aid in quest development.
  • Added a limit to the number of 'stacks' you can have in a storage category to prevent the max capacity from being passed resulting in not being able to access those items.
  • Fixed "/pet summon N" , so that it will summon the same pet regardless of the order the pets where added to your char.
  • Return a more useful error message for /pet command if mounted.
  • Additional improvement to the crafting books for enchanting to correct "With higher crystal way]]Enchant...." & related bugs
  • Re-written Help file to go with remade tutorial, and updated with new commands.
  • Lots of fixes to slot and container handling, should improve most problems people encounter.
  • Fixed a bug where if an item was in a container in slot >=16, and you were storing, you could see it in the list but you couldn't store it.
  • Engine bug fixes:
  • Fixed bug #1213 - This fix will mean that books with commas in the name will show correctly while trading the book.
  • Fixed bug #2097 - This will allow players to select the icon of a reward from the quest reward window, not just the text.
  • Fixed bug #2551 - As part of the new shortcut window you will be able to pickup and drop shortcuts to reorder them.
  • Fixed bug #3794 - This will fix the bug which appears if you have a pet summoned and another is created you end up with one you can't command. Now if you have a pet summoned it is dismissed before the new one is created.
  • Fixed bug #4641, #5839 - The Chat window has been slightly adjusted to improve its look.
  • Fixed bug #5218 - Shortcuts now use the new /emote command.
  • Fixed bug #5665 - This adds improvements to pet commands, to let you command a pet by name. They new use the following command format /pet action pet name/number example "/pet summon jonny" "/pet stay jonny"
  • Fixed bug #5695 - This fixes a bug where you did not get an error message when you tried to research magic with no glyphs in the research slots. Now you get an error message, this should make research easier to work out.
  • Fixed bug #5731 - This fix stops a crash where if you tried to force training a faction when you open the training window, as factions can not be trained, the client crashed.
  • Fixed bug #5825 - The active magic window will now have one list, use spell icons for spells, and has a too bar icon for quick show/hide
  • Fixed bug #5894 - This should mean that all magic enchanting crafting books display the instructions correctly
  • Fixed bug #5899 - This fixes the missing feature where you could only change pages with clicking on the next/previous buttons in books. Now you can use mouse scroll, key scrolls on; Up/Down, Left/Right, PgUp/PgDown, and End/Home. This allows for much easier changing of pages in creative and crafting books.
  • Fixed bug #5910 - Both a mount and unmount icon have been added to the interaction menu with mounts. This makes getting on and off much easier.
  • Fixed bug #5964 - Removed reference to "being frozen by a GM" so spells which use the same code as the GM command do not make it look like you were frozen by a GM.
  • Fixed bug #5965 - Previously if you had an NPC selected as it went invisible you could still train/trade with it. This fix means this should no longer be the case.
  • Fixed bug #5968 - This fix has added a /brightness command and will preserve setting through restart, to allow for easier control of custom brightness levels.
  • Fixed bug #6003 - This will fix instances where category names changed to lower case. This also messed up the order they displayed in the merchant/storage windows. All category names will now say in their correct case and order.
  • Fixed bug #6021 - This fix should mean the /equip command will not pick items already equipped.
  • Fixed bug #6023 - The Default 'no quest message' should now be correct.
  • Fixed bug #6075 - This fixes the bug with items not displaying properly in containers. The frequent complaint was with glyph sacks as it became impossible to see where all your glyphs were. Now all containers are displaying their contents correctly.
  • Fixed bug #6079 - Currently when you see a 'loading screen' appear in game, in order for your character to move again you have to jump or press forward again. You will no longer have to as movement is automatically continued once the load screen closes after loading has finished.
  • Fixed bug #6112 - Due to a mistake in the script some items were assigned an "unidentified" flag when they were crafted despite them not needing it. The mistake in the script has been corrected.
  • Fixed bug #6156 - Settings Devs occasionally got reports from player that a 's or ' at the end of an NPCs name was missing. We now have the ability add them and for them to be displayed properly in both the NPC tab and in the quest dialog window.
  • Partial fix for bug 6192 - This fix will allow NPCs to react properly to things such as spell scripts, which in turn means spells such as fear and darkness will work as intended.
  • Fixed bug #6210 - Some players might remember when they were given or looted items they vanished, this is now fixed so items will not go missing due to this bug any more.
  • Other fixed bugs:
  • Fixed memory leaks in bugs, 6048, 6051, 6052, 6054, 6058, 6074, 6086, 6088, 6093, 6089, 6115, 6125, 6121.

  • use special attacks (stun, poison and MORE!) like originally designed by the settings team
  • use spellcasting abilities to defend and attack or even heal themselves
  • many spells will now trigger specific NPC behaviours (like fleeing when subject to Fear spell)
  • assess the player strengths (physical, magical, or both) and decide which attack stance to use
  • fixed many NPCs paths in hydlaa (just to name a few: Mirra, Nalri, Rolara, Axomir, Loren, ...), some path may still require some fix.
  • Update for Crafters:

  • Settings
  • Cooking redo:
  • Along with the rules changes to cook books, the quests to award these books have been redone to reflect the recipes in each, including some new quests.
  • The cooking chain has been reordered and dialog added to direct you from quest to quest.
  • As a result, ALL COOK QUESTS PROGRESS HAS BEEN WIPED (except Mirra's quests, which are their own branch in the chain), beginning with Introduction to the Food Association with Jomed. This is a good chance for newbies and cooking experts alike to go through the chain and provide feedback and suggestions. The old cook books have been wiped so you'll have to reacquire the new versions.
  • Trainers and merchants have been adjusted to reflect the changes.
  • Though small, Jomed's kitchen is now functional. While it doesn't have the room for a full array of equipment, the existing art (grill, stove, table) now have action locations to make them usable. Pots, bowls, etc. have been added along with an oven.
  • A few additional items have been added in other places as well, like Reffitia's kitchen and Archilaya's area.
  • For some quests where you give NPCs food, their responses may vary depending on quality. (e.g., submit a dish for Reffitia for your apprenticeship that is below a certain quality and she may reject it and have you make it again...give her a high quality dish and she will be very impressed).
  • Other Quests/Quest features:
  • Harnquist expands his palette (again): Though not directly in the cooking chain, the Harnquist is Hungry quest has now been expanded to include many many more options. As you increase your cooking and baking skill together, the options for what he asks from you will change and get more complex. This means you will be able to make him dishes according to your skill level. The higher your skills are the more you are asked to do, and the better the rewards for feeding him are. This is something for all you cooks.
  • We have introduced a method to make players wait between steps, when an NPC says 'come back later' in some of the newest quests you will actually have to wait. We are testing this out to see how well it fits and for playability, the periods you have to wait are not long and you are given a system message with exactly how long you have to wait and it will also appear as a buff in your active magic window.
  • A number of small option changes have made it into a number of current quests which reward glyphs to make them easier to acquire.
  • A few new quests have been added which will give more cultural information about the nolthrir.
  • Additional quests have been added to allow obtaining an early important blue way glyph easier (pay close attention to what NPCs say to you for you might miss the quest otherwise).
  • Books:
  • Continuing out efforts to expand the released setting, two new ingame books added, check out the libraries and taverns to see what books are available.
  • KA (Knowledge area), these are what NPCs respond to when you ask them something, like 'about you' in the free text box or use '/tellnpc about you'
  • General clean up of KAs and removal of unused or empty ones.
  • Added KAs for alchemy in Hydlaa and Ojaveda.
  • General improvements to many NPC responses based on requests on forum threads, winch doors and npc info for winch, expanded Gugrontid KAs.
  • Ferryd now has proximity KAs for information about training and should address you by rank as you progress up in Red Way Ranks.
  • We have added KAs to all the guards in Hydlaa so they can enforce banishment once it is ready to be used by GMs.
  • NPCs:
  • Descriptions for many of the NPCs and NPC types have been replaced with more descriptive versions (75 at last count).
  • Some positions should be fixed, like Edrich standing on/in his window.
  • Incorrect traits, like enkidukai clan colours, have be corrected.
  • Descriptions and held items should match more closely for a few NPCs now.
  • Miscellaneous:
  • continual fixes and improvements to settings, currently at least 26 reported bugs listed as 'Fixed pending release' will make it onto the production server. At least as many other minor fixes reported to settings for quests will also make it onto the production server. Please keep telling us about every little thing you guys find which is wrong.
