PerfectTablePlan Changelog

What's new in PerfectTablePlan 5.3.4

Jun 20, 2017
  • All editions:
  • v5.3.1 to v5.3.3 are slow at deleting large numbers of guests. This is now fixed.
  • Previously new plans defaulted to meters. The default units for new plans are now set according to your windows/Mac system locale, e.g. to feet if your locale is set the USA. You can change the units for a plan in the Dimensions window.
  • When guests are dropped onto seats in the Floor Plan or Table Plan panes, the seats dropped on to are now highlighted after the drop as an additional visual cue.
  • Advanced and Professional editions:
  • There is now a Scale Background Image feature to help you scale background images correctly. It allows you to mark a feature on the background image and specify how big it should be. The background image is then scaled appropriately.
  • Custom fields hidden in the Guests and Groups pane in v5.2.3 or earlier sometimes cannot he unhidden in v5.3.1 to v5.3.3. This is now fixed.
  • If any inconsistencies were discovered during import of proximity, seating or custom fields data the user was given the option to Cancel or Continue. Clicking Cancel imported the guests, but did not show them. This is now fixed.

New in PerfectTablePlan 5.3.3 (Jun 8, 2017)

  • Drag and drop sometimes didn't work if the name of a plan file (or the folders that contained it) had one or more non-Latin characters (such as ø). This is now fixed.
  • Changing the size of seats and the snap grid could sometimes cause a crash. This is now fixed.
  • On Mac retina displays the colour buttons in the Visualization colours window were not always the correct height. This is now fixed.

New in PerfectTablePlan 5.3.2 (Jun 8, 2017)

  • The Table plan pane was not correctly scaled for printing in v5.3.1. This is now fixed.
  • When dragging guests over the background of the Floor plan or Table plan panes all seats are now unselected. Previously the last seat dragged over remained selected.
  • A Help>Expert Tips menu item has been added.

New in PerfectTablePlan 5.3.1 (May 9, 2017)

  • Improvements:
  • You can now shuffle selected guests a number of seats clockwise or anti-clockwise using the new Edit>Shuffle Seats... feature. You can also use the keyboard accelerators Ctrl+{/Ctrl+} (Windows)/Cmd+{/Cmd+} (Mac) to move selected guests 1 seat anti-clockwise/clockwise.
  • Shuffling is particularly useful for moving guests around after you have resized an E-shaped table.
  • Tip: To only select some of the guests on a table:
  • In the Floor plan pane drag a selection box around all the guests you wish to shuffle.
  • Use Ctrl+click (Windows)/Cmd+click (Mac) to unselect the table and any guests you have accidentally selected.
  • All editions of PerfectTablePlan now support storing unique IDs for guests, groups, tables etc (previously it was only the Professional edition). This allows you to edit a plan in different editions of PerfectTablePlan (v5.3.1 or later) without IDs changing. You still need the Professional edition to import or export IDs. Unique IDs are useful for integrating PerfectTablePlan with other systems.
  • The user interface has been updated to look more modern on both Windows and Mac.
  • PerfectTablePlan is now significantly faster when:
  • Assigning or unassigning lots of guests.
  • Adding guests when the Proximity pane is visible.
  • The number of guests and/or tables currently selected in the active pane is now shown in the status bar.
  • 'Balloon' tips are now moved and hidden when their parent window is moved or hidden.
  • Keyboard navigation in the Guests, Groups and Schematic panes using Ctrl+Arrow, Return and Tab keys has been improved.
  • In the Export VCard window you can now choose whether to export to vCard v2.1 or vCard v3.0 formats. v3.0 is recommended. v2.1 is an old format that does not support UTF-8 encoding and is included only for compatibility with older software.
  • You can now set the group notes field during import.
  • Previously some non-English characters in version 3.0 and 4.0 format vCards were not correctly imported. For example when dragging a contact whose name contained an ü character from Apple Contacts on the Mac. This is now fixed.
  • PerfectTablePlan will now attempt to load plan files with additional characters after the XML delimiter. This should make it better able to read corrupted or badly formed plan files.
  • Previously an 'Unable to write to image' message was sometimes shown by the Print window (however the printing still worked). This is now fixed.
  • Checkbox settings in the Export Data window are now remembered.
  • Previously the Special field was not always correctly imported from a vCard where multiple guests were stored in one vCard. This could also affect dragging guests between instances of PerfectTablePlan. This is now fixed.
  • Previously the default VIP status for guests set in the Titles tab of the Preferences window was ignored. This is now fixed.
  • The help documentation has been updated to look more like the website.
  • The help screen captures have been updated.
  • An 'Expert tips' section has been added to the documentation.
  • Various minor improvements have been made to the user interface and documentation.
  • Improved support for Mac Retina high resolution displays.
  • Previously PerfectTablePlan sometimes started when non-PerfectTablePlan format files on the desktop were double clicked. This is now fixed.
  • Some extraneous menu items added to PerfectTablePlan by macOS have been removed.

New in PerfectTablePlan 5.2.4 (Sep 28, 2016)

  • This release adds bug fixes to version 5.2.3 for Mac OS X.

New in PerfectTablePlan 5.2.3 (Sep 9, 2015)

  • Enhancements:
  • PerfectTablePlan now better handles importing CSV files delimited by semi-colons rather than commas (which often seems to be the case on Mac OS X). [Added in v5.2.3]
  • You are now only prompted to load a recovery plan file if the recovery plan file is different to the last saved plan. [Added in v5.2.3]
  • PerfectTablePlan now better handles commas in the suffix field during import. [Added in v5.2.3]
  • Carriage returns in field values (e.g. in the Notes field) are now handled better when exporting data. [Added in v5.2.3]
  • You can now add a new value to a custom field of type selection by selecting from the drop-down list in the Guest Properties window or in Edit mode in the Guests or Groups pane. [Added in v5.2.3] (Advanced and Professional editions)
  • Bug fixes:
  • Previously the VDU Chart pane would sometimes crash when Text was set to 0%. This is now fixed. [Fixed in v5.2.3]
  • Previously the ‘stacking order’ of items in the Stationery pane was incorrect. E.g. sending an image to the back would move it to the front. This is now fixed. [Fixed in v5.2.3]
  • Previously you could move items in the Floor Plan pane using the cursor keys when Freeze floor plan was checked. This is now fixed. [Fixed in v5.2.3]
  • Previously the colour key was sometime placed incorrectly in the Table plan pane. This is now fixed. [Fixed in v5.2.3]
  • Improved look and feel on Mac OS X 10.10 and 10.11. [Fixed in v5.2.3]
  • Previously black lines sometimes appeared around the edges of ‘You are here’ images in the Stationery pane. This is now fixed. [Fixed in v5.2.3] (Advanced and Professional editions)

New in PerfectTablePlan 5.2.2 (Feb 27, 2015)

  • Additional layouts Name only (extended radial) and Name only (extended banquet) have been added. This allow additional space for guest names. It is appropriate to use these when you have a single table (e.g. an E-shaped table) or widely spaced banquet tables and some guests have long names/titles (e.g. Livery Company or Masonic events). However it may result in overlapping guest names if you have tables close together (e.g. a typical circular table layout).
  • PerfectTablePlan now warns you if you try to import an Excel spreadsheet with >= 10,000 rows or >= 1,000 columns. This can happen when someone accidentally adds a space at row 1,048,576.
  • Previously PerfectTablePlan defaulted to 100% scaling when printing, if Fit to page had not been used for the previous print. It now defaults to Fit to page as we feel this is more helpful.
  • PerfectTablePlan now includes a MobileX XLSX export file type for importing.
  • The layout of Name only (radial) and Name only (banquet) (and the extended versions mentioned above) now allow more space for guest names on the outside of E-shaped tables.
  • We have added a Livery Company sample plan. This plan shows that you can legibly print a floor plan with 148 names on a single sheet of A4 paper. It also shows the use of You are here personalised seating maps in the Stationery pane. Note that you need PerfectTablePlan Advanced or Professional edition to see the E-shaped table.
  • Bug fixes:
  • Previously it was very slow to delete multiple guests if the Proximity pane was visible. This is now fixed.
  • Previously snap to grid, room resizing and moving tables with cursor keys in the Floor Plan pane could be very slow for large plans. This is now fixed.
  • PerfectTablePlan scales fonts smaller if it can’t fit names into the space available on the Floor Plan and Table Plan panes using the user-selected font. However it sometimes scaled fonts smaller than required. This is now fixed.
  • The position of 45 degree text in Name only (radial) layout has been modified to stop the text overlapping the table.
  • Name only (radial) and Name only (banquet) now do not wrap text across multiple lines, unless the display name includes a ** line break.
  • Previously the Table Plan pane zoomed back after dropping a guest. This is now fixed.
  • Previously the Floor Plan pane could change scroll position or zoom level after undo/redo. This is now fixed.
  • Previously the number of columns in the VDU Chart pane was set back to 1 every time a read-only plan was refreshed from another computer. This is now fixed.
  • ‘section’ has been added as an editable term in the Guest Chart pane.

New in PerfectTablePlan 5.2.1 (Jun 26, 2014)

  • Bug fix:
  • Multi-course meals were not displayed correctly in the colour key. This is now fixed. Thank you to Mark A for reporting this.

New in PerfectTablePlan 5.2.0 (Jun 19, 2014)

  • Enhancements:
  • You can now colour code seats in the Floor plan and Table plan panes according to how well the guests are seated (based on the proximity of nearby guests). Well seated guests are shown in green. Poorly seated guests are shown in red. This ‘hotspot’ analysis allows you to quickly spot any problem seating assignments.
  • In the VDU chart the floor plan can now optionally be placed above (instead of to the left of) the scrolling text. Thank you to Sue and Christoph B for suggesting this.
  • There is now an option in the Auto assign tab of the Preferences window to assign tables in the order shown in the Schematic pane. This might be useful if you want to fill particular tables or rows of seats first. However, allowing the automatic seat assignment to assign tables in any order will generally lead to better seat assignments. Thank you to Peter D, Stephen S and Melissa O for suggesting this.
  • Guide-lines are now optionally displayed when you click on a single object in the Floor plan pane. This makes it easier to align objects in the floor plan.
  • You can now navigate between tables in the Table plan pane using a drop-down list. Thanks to Stephanie P K and Laura L for suggesting this.
  • You can now move selected items in the Floor plan pane using keyboard arrow keys. If grid snap is on, each key press moves one grid position. If grid snap is not on, each key press moves 5 cm/2 inches (1 cm/0.4 inch if Shift is held down). Thanks to a number of customers for the suggestion.
  • You can now drag an image file from your operating system or from a web browser straight onto the Floor Plan pane. Double click the image to edit its properties (e.g. size and rotation).
  • You can now drag an image file from your operating system or from a web browser straight onto the Stationery Plan pane.
  • We have added stationery layouts for Avery C32253 and Avery L4794 place cards. Thanks to Dan F and Colin B for the suggestion.
  • We have added additional ‘How do I?’ help pages:
  • How do I?>Stationery>Align printing with my stationery
  • How do I?>Floor Plan>Align tables
  • More cross-references have also been added to the documentation.
  • If your device supports gestures, you can now use a ‘pinch’ gesture to zoom in and out in the Floor plan and Table plan panes. Thanks to Joe C for the suggestion.
  • *.xlsm has been added to the list of default file extensions when importing data. Thank you to Richard G for the suggestion.
  • An import mapping has been added for registration and check-in solution MobiCheckin.
  • A new ‘garden party’ sample table plan has been added.
  • Bug Fix:
  • Rotating multiple items in the Floor plan pane could sometimes cause a crash. This is now fixed. Thank you to Tom F for reporting this.
  • Changing proximity in the Proximity pane with the For drop-down list set to By group+ could sometimes cause a crash. This is now fixed. Thank you to Lindsey H for reporting this.
  • Clicking OK in the Select Texture window when there was no texture to select caused a crash. The OK button is now disabled if there is no texture to select. Thank you to Marte B for reporting this.
  • The Floor plan and Table plan panes were not always correctly updated when groups were renamed. This is now fixed.
  • Fixed a bug related to adding colour coded spots to stationery.
  • CSV files were exported in UTF-16 encoding. Microsoft Excel didn’t interpret this correctly. So CSV files are now exported in UTF-8 encoding.

New in PerfectTablePlan 5.1.4 (Nov 12, 2013)

  • You can now show seat numbers at the same time as guest names for rows of seats. Set the Seats drop-down list to Rectangular+name, Chair+name, Rectangular or Chair and the Places drop-down list to Seat number (small), Seat number (medium) or Seat number (large).
  • Printing sometimes caused a crash in v5.1.3. Particularly on the second print. This is now fixed.

New in PerfectTablePlan 5.1.3 (Oct 24, 2013)

  • Text was not properly aligned in controls (e.g. buttons) on Mac OS X 10.9. We believe this was only a cosmetic issue, but it is now fixed.

New in PerfectTablePlan 5.1.2 (Oct 24, 2013)

  • Printing the Stationery pane from Mac OS X 10.8 could cause a crash in some situations, particularly if you were using rotated images. This is now fixed. Thank you to quite a few people for reporting this.

New in PerfectTablePlan 5.1.1 (Jul 11, 2013)

  • The automatic seat assignment now takes account of how far apart tables are. For example, if a group ofm giest with next to/near to proximity can’t all be fitted on a single table it will attempt to place them on adjacent tables. Tables are considered to be adjacent if their centres are within 5m/15ft of each other.
  • The automatic seat assignment will now attempt to sit guests opposite each other on narrow tables, for example on banquet tables and the sprigs of E-shaped tables. You can use the On narrow tables prefer near to/next to guests seated drop-down list in the Auto assign tab of the Preferences window to specify whether you prefer guests seated left/right or opposite each other.
  • The auto seat assignment has been improved. In particular it now makes more effort to satisfy at least 1 near to/next to proximity for each guest. It does this by:
  • An additional penalty for guests with no near to or next to proximities fulfilled.
  • Score ‘smoothing’ ensures that we don’t choose a seating that makes one guest really happy at the expense of making several others slightly miserable.
  • The automatic seat assignment is now significantly faster, per seating calculated. On a typical plan it is at least twice as fast. On some very large plans it may be as much as ten times faster. But on some plans with lots of small tables close together it may possibly be a little slower (see 1. above). Also we have increased the default attempts without improvement in the Auto assign tab of the Preferences window from 25 to 100. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • You can now control whether the members of a group are displayed using their first name (e.g. Mr & Mrs John Smith) or intials (e.g. Mr & Mrs J. Smith) using the Display group members as field in the Names tab of the Preferences window. This affects the following situations:
  • listing by group in the Table chart or Guest chart panes
  • substituting into {group_members} in the Stationery pane
  • exporting members (formal) in the Export Data window
  • The default behaviour is now to show the first name. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • In addition to solid colours and gradients, you can now also use textures/patterns to make your Floor plan and Table plan panes more realistic.
  • You can now use a gradient (instead of a solid colour) as the background in the Floor plan or Table plan pane. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • In the Floor plan pane you can now check Freeze floor plan to prevent changes to the position of table, shape, image and text items. Note that you can still reassign guests and change some item properties. Thank you to several customers who requested this. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • We have added a Set colours automatically button to the Vizualization colours window. This is particularly useful if you are changing from a 1 colour scheme to a 2 colour scheme. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • In the Floor plan and Table plan panes you can now press a red flag button to show critical issues in your seating. For example a guest who has at least 1 ‘next to’ proximity, but isn’t sitting next to any of them. This is different from the conflict (lightning) button, which will show every unfulfilled ‘next to’ proximity. This new button allows you to quickly understand any major seating issues. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • There is now a Group column in the Guests pane. This is useful if you want to sort or search guests by group in the Guests pane. It is also available in the Groups pane, but hidden by default. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • When exporting a plan to the web you can now choose to export all details or only minimal details. Minimal details doesn’t include guest notes, special requirements, VIP status, custom fields etc. This may be useful if you want to export a version you can show to your guests. Thank you to George R and Lester K for suggesting this. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • You can now optionally display the folder you have exported a file to using Windows Explorer on Windows and the Finder on Mac OS X. Thank you to Jonathan M for suggesting this. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • Use Default display name format in the Names tab of the Preferences window to change the default display name for guests. The guest title, first name, first initial, last name, last initial and suffix are substituted into {title}, {first}, {f}, {last}, {l} and {suffix}, respectively.
  • The default names for new tables and rows names can now be automatically generated using letters instead of numbers, e.g. “Table A”, “Table B” .. “Table Z”, “Table AA” .. etc. To use letters instead of numbers use the substitution field {next_table_letter} in the New table name format field in the Names tab of the Preferences window. Similarly you can use the substitution field {next_row_letter} in the New row name format field. Thank you to Tony for suggesting this. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • You can now show group names instead guest names in the Floor plan and Table plan panes. Select Group from the Guests drop-down list. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • You can now optionally show the group of a guest in the legend of the Table plan pane. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • The Most Recently Accessed window now allows you to filter plans by date.
  • Increased the number of plans that can be shown to 10. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • The Floor plan pane automatically scrolls if you drag to the edge of the pane. It now waits 0.5 seconds before starting to scroll. This helps to avoid accidental scrolling, for example when you are dragging from the Guests pane to the Floor plan pane. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • Previously you could drop plan files you wanted to open and files you wanted to import (e.g. spreadsheets) onto the Guests or Groups pane. Now you can also drop them onto the Floor plan, Table plan, Schematic , Table chart, Guest chart and Report panes. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • The Ignore first field is now visible in the Import data window without having to click the more/reveal button. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • You can now optionally create a back-up file each time you print or export. You can control this from the Backups tab of the Preferences window. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • You can now easily show all the backup files in the Find Plan Files window by selecting File>Backups. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • PerfectTablePlan now checks backup files for unsaved changes (e.g. due to a crash or power outage) at startup. To disable this behaviour uncheck check automatically for unsaved changes in backup files in the Backups tab of the Preferences window. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • PerfectTablePlan now reminds you to backup your plan files after the 10th, 100th and then every 500th save. Don’t say we didn’t warn you! You can disable this warning in the warning window or in the Warnings tab of the Preferences window. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • You can now change the size of the font used for displaying seat numbers on tables by selecting Seat numbers (small), seat numbers (medium) or Seat numbers (large) from the Places drop-down list in the Floor plan and Table plan panes. The size of the seat numbers in the VDU chart pane are set by the Places drop-down list in the Floor plan pane. Thank you to Paul C, Alan B, Chris S, Tony W and Glenn R for pointing out issues with seat text sizing in v5.0.7. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • The Select groups window now shows the number of guests and up to the first 2 members in each group. This makes it easier to distinguish between multiple groups with the same name. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • Next to, near to, not next to and not near to proximity lines between seats on a head table or row of seats or between seats on the same side of a banquet, rectangular, custom or E-shaped table are now drawn as curves to make them easier to distinguish. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • When Next to, Near to, Not next to and Not near to proximity lines are shown together on the Floor plan or Table plan panes, the Next to and Not near to lines are shown thicker to make them easier to distinguish. Thank you to Lori C for the suggestion. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • The headings of the troubleshooting report have been improved to show how many of each issue there are. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • It is rarely advisable to set the Selected and Drawing area Inside colour to the same colour. You are now warned if you do. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • The padding (spacing between columns) has been increased in the Table plan pane legend. Thanks to Anne R. for suggesting this. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • You can choose to use non-native (i.e. not provided by the operating system) Open and Save windows by unchecking use native file open/save windows in the General tab of the Preferences window. We don’t recommend this unless you have problems with the native windows (as occurred with a previous release on Mac OS X 10.8.2, for example). [Added in v5.1.0]
  • Some of the options in the General tab of the Preferences window have been moved to a new Names tab. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • We have added more video links to documentation. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • We have made various minor improvements to the documentation. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • The PDF version of the Help documentation has been removed from the download to the reduce the file size. However you can still download it from the documentation page on our website. [Added in v5.1.0]
  • We have added a new sample table plan based on the 2009 G20 dinner. We have taken some liberties with the proximities - but would you want Berlusconi sitting next to Strauss-Kahn?! [Added in v5.1.0]

New in PerfectTablePlan 5.0.7 (Nov 14, 2012)

  • ENHANCEMENTS:
  • All editions:
  • Visualization using colours and icons now works for rectangular and chair seats (previously it only worked for circular seats).
  • Seat number are now larger when they are displayed on tables in the Floor plan and Table plan panes. This should make them easier to read, e.g. in the VDU Chart pane. Thank you to Richard G for suggesting this.
  • You can press the Esc (escape) key on your keyboard to cancel whatever you have typed in a Search field. Thank you to David P for suggesting this.
  • Advanced and Professional editions:
  • You can now export table section (for a guest) and table section(s) (for a group) from File>Export>Guest and seating data to CSV/text file. This may be useful if you have E-shaped tables. Thanks to Roger W for suggesting this.
  • If you are displaying an item of stationery per group you can now use the substitution text {group_table_sections} in the Stationery pane to display a list of the table section(s) a group is seated at. This may be useful if you have E-shaped tables.
  • The maximum number of sprigs for an E-shaped table has been increased from 9 to 25. Thank you to Roger W for suggesting this.
  • A warning is now displayed if you run a Multi-plan report on the current plan and the current plan has unsaved changes.
  • BUG FIXES:
  • All editions:
  • Ctrl+F (Windows) and Cmd-F (Mac) did not always set the focus to the correct Find field. For example if the Floor plan pane had focus, but the Guests pane was visible, pressing Ctrl+F (Windows) or Cmd-F (Mac) would set the focus to the Guests pane Find field instead of the Floor plan pane Find field. This is now fixed.
  • If the User interface style was set to Unified toolbar and titlebar (the default) in the Preferences window, the height of the Main window at start-up was less than the height of the Main window at exit. This is now fixed. Thank you to Daniel F for reporting this.

New in PerfectTablePlan 5.0.5 (Sep 13, 2012)

  • If a name cannot be displayed in the space available in the Floor plan or Table plan pane, the size of the font will be reduced until it fits. [Added in v5.0.5]
  • You can now use a ‘rubber box’ to select items in the Floor plan and Table plan panes. Hold down the left mouse button and drag a box. All the items intersecting the box will be selected. Thank you to Namal P, Philip M, Jan S and Andrew B for suggesting this. If you click the right mouse button and drag while zoomed in to the Floor plan pane you can pan left, right, up and down (the previous behaviour for left drag). [Added in v5.0.5]
  • When you drag guests to a seat or table in the Floor plan or Table plan pane all the seats that will be assigned to are now highlighted. This gives better visual feedback on which seats will be reassigned. Previously it only highlighted the seat/table you were dragging over. [Added in v5.0.5]
  • Every fifth line in the Floor plan pane grid is now more prominent. This should make it easier to count grid squares. Thanks to Jim B for suggesting this. [Added in v5.0.5]
  • PerfectTablePlan.app is now signed with an Apple digital certificate. This means that you won’t get a nasty warning from Gatekeeper in Mac OS X 10.8. It also means you can be sure that the software hasn’t been tampered with since it was released by us. [Added in v5.0.5]

New in PerfectTablePlan 5.0.4 (Jul 31, 2012)

  • BUG FIXES:
  • Windows and Macintosh:
  • Unchecking the Anon check box for a guest could rename the group to ‘unnamed’. This is now fixed. Thank you to Iain S, Kim L and Donna L for reporting this. [Fixed in v5.0.3]
  • Previously it was possible for the ‘to’ and ‘from’ pages in the Print window to be out of range (e.g. printing from pages 5-6 when only 4 pages are available). This is now fixed. Thank you to Donna L for reporting this.[Fixed in v5.0.4]
  • Previously the stacking order of items in the Stationery pane was not always preserved when a .tp or .tps file was saved and then read back in. This is now fixed. Thanks to Colin B for reporting this. [Fixed in v5.0.4]
  • Previously non-square images (including ‘You are here’ images) rotated to 90 or 270 degrees in the Stationery pane had their aspect (height:width) ratios changed. This is now fixed. [Fixed in v5.0.4]
  • Macintosh only:
  • PerfectTablePlan crashed intermittently when printing or exporting to PDF. This seemed to happen particularly on the second printout. This appears to be a bug in a third party library. We have added a workaround. Thank you to a number of people for reporting this. [Fixed in v5.0.3]

New in PerfectTablePlan 5.0.2 (Jun 18, 2012)

  • Guest properties - You can now edit a guest property for multiple guests in a single operation by selecting Edit>Guest Property from the main menu (or a right click menu).
  • There is now an additional RSVP status ‘Arrived’. This may be useful if you are checking-in guests as they arrive at an event. [Added in v5.0.0]
  • Groups pane - The number of guests in a group is now written in brackets after the group in the Groups pane. This is useful for seeing how many guests there are in a group at a glance. [Added in v5.0.0]
  • Floor plan and Table plan panes - The tableware check box in the Floor plan and Table plan panes in v4 has been replaced by a Places drop-down list (you may have to click the more button at the top left of the pane to see it). This allows you to show Tableware or the Seat number at the place setting in front of a guest. This means you can now show seat number and guest name at the same time in these panes.
  • Schematic pane - Seats selected in the Schematic pane are now ignored for the purposes of deleting tables. This makes it easier to delete tables. [Added in v5.0.0]
  • Table chart pane - You can now hide table names in the Table chart pane by unchecking the Tables check box. This is particularly useful when you have a single E-shaped table. [Added in v5.0.0]
  • VDU Chart pane - PerfectTablePlan has a new VDU Chart pane. This pane shows seat assignments as scrolling text (like film credits). This is ideal if you want to display your seat assignments electronically on a laptop, VDU or plasma screen instead of on a printed chart. For example, you can plug the VDU output of a laptop running PerfectTablePlan into a Plasma screen at a venue. This makes it much easier to make last minute changes to the seat assignments.
  • Stationery pane - You can now use word wrap for text in the Stationery pane. This will add line breaks if the text won’t fit on a single line. Word wrap can be set on or off separately for each text item.
  • If an item of text is too large to fit on an item of stationery, the font size will be scaled smaller to fit.
  • The Stationery pane now handles left and right aligned text better. Note that plans with left or right aligned text in the Stationery pane created with earlier versions of PerfectTablePlan may require the text to be repositioned when read in to v5. You will be warned if this is the case. [Added in v5.0.0]
  • Overtures Capital Emboss place cards (6 per sheet) have been added to the stationery database.
  • Reporting pane - A new Troubleshooting report is now available from the Reports pane. This reports on 40 potential problem issues
  • The Summary report in the Report pane now shows the number of proximities in a plan. This allows you to spot if you have excessive numbers of proximity settings. Large numbers of proximities (e.g. 100,000+) can significantly affect the performance of PerfectTablePlan. [Added in v5.0.0]

  • The Export data window remembers settings and uses them as defaults next time. This can save time if you are doing a lot of exporting. [Added in v5.0.0]

New in PerfectTablePlan 4.2.6 (Feb 20, 2011)

  • Introduced a bug in v4.2.5 that meant the when PerfectTablePlan laid out tables these positions weren’t ‘remembered’ (you needed to move them manually for the position to be remembered). Consequently if you saved the plan and then re-opened it all the tables were stacked one on top of each other. This is now fixed. Thank you to Debe, May, Norman, Tyrone and Neville for reporting this. [Fixed in v4.2.6]
  • Other applications are not always able to handle Unicode characters in .csv files. For example Excel 2007 for Windows seems to have problems with Unicode .csv files, putting all the text into a single column. So we now give an option to convert any Unicode characters to ASCII when exporting to .csv. Thank you to Yoon for reporting this. [Fixed in v4.2.6]
  • In Name only (banquet) mode names with large fonts could sometimes overlap the table (see below). This is now fixed. Thank you to Phil for reporting this. [Fixed in v4.2.6]

New in PerfectTablePlan 4.2.5 (Jan 31, 2011)

  • The number of proximity lines shown in the Floor plan pane can sometimes be a bit overwhelming, especially for large events. You can now hold down the Shift key to only draw proximity lines for guests whose seat or table is selected. Thank you to Lori for suggesting this. [Added in v4.2.5]
  • The Find Plan Files window has been added. You can use this to quickly search for plan (.tp) or backup files (.tpb) that you can’t find using File>Open or File>Open recent. It may take a few minutes to search your whole harddisk. [Added in v4.2.5]
  • A Last modified column has been added to the Most recently accessed window. You can now also sort the columns by clicking on the column headers. The OK button has been renamed Open. [Added in v4.2.5]

  • Bug fixes:
  • When tables are added they are automatically laid out in the Floor plan pane to try and avoid overlaps. This layout could appear rather erratic if the Seats drop-down list was set to Rectangular+name or Chair+name, or if the tables were rotated. This has now been fixed. [Fixed in v4.2.5]
  • When importing a spreadsheet or CSV file the names of couples were sometimes imported incorrectly. For example “Mr & Mrs J Smith” might be imported at “Mr J S mith” and “Mrs mith” instead of “Mr J Smith” and “Mrs Smith”. This is now fixed. Thanks to Guy for reporting it. [Fixed in v4.2.5]
  • When exporting guest data the seat numbers of tables with anti-clockwise or custom seat numbers were not exported correctly. This is now fixed. Thanks to David S-E for reporting it. [Fixed in v4.2.5]

  • if you switch to a lower edition you will loose data items that are only available in the higher edition
  • if you switch to a higher edition than you have a licence for you will be in trial mode (you can’t print, save or export plans with >30 guests) until you switch back

New in PerfectTablePlan 4.0.3 (Jan 27, 2009)

  • Backward/forward compatibility:
  • This version can read plan (.tp) files saved by any earlier version of PerfectTablePlan. But reading 4.0.3 plans into versions of the software before 4.0.0 may lose some data.
  • Enhancements:
  • Oval tables have been added. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • Semi-circular tables have been added. These can have seats along the straight side or the curved side or both. You can combine semi-circular tables with other tables to create complex shapes. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • Rows of seats have been added. Move a row of seats by dragging either end of the row. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • You can now display more realistic looking seats by setting the Seats drop-down list in the Floor plan or Table plan pane to chair. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • Tableware (plate+knife+fork) can now optionally be drawn in the Floor plan and Table plan panes. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • Additional options rectangular+name and chair+name have been added to the Seats drop-down list in the Floor plan and Table plan. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • The Seats drop-down list in the Floor plan and Table plan panes now has an additional option name only (banquet). This rotates some guest names at the top and bottom of rectangular tables to 45 degrees. This makes it easier to read the names and is particularly useful when there is a head table with sprigs. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • The Table Plan pane can now print all the tables in a single operation. All the pages are scaled uniformly (i.e. the seats are the same size on every page) for consistency. If you only want to print the current table, click on the Setup button in the Print window and change the pages to be printed. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • The Table Plan pane is now exported to a PDF file with one page per table. As above, all the pages are scaled uniformly. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • The Stationery pane can now be exported to PDF format. Select File>Export data and choose stationery to PDF file. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • PDFs can now be exported as custom sizes. Select from the drop-down list in the Export PDF window and set the appropriate dimensions and units. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • Search has been added to the Schematic pane. Tables with names that do not contain the search term are hidden. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • Search in the Proximity pane now hides non-matching rows and columns, similar to the way search works in the Guests pane. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • Search in the Stationery layout window now hides non-matching items, similar to the way search works in the Guests pane. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • Search terms in the Guests and Groups pane are now reapplied to any new or renamed guests or groups. E.g. If you type “Fred” in the Guests search field only guests whose names contain Fred will be displayed (as previously). If you now rename a guest from “Fred” to “John” they will be hidden (new behaviour). [Added in v4.0.0]
  • The Show drop-down list in the Guest chart pane, the Show drop-down list in the Stationery pane and the Filter drop-down list in the Export data window now has additional options for filtering guests based on RSVP status. This means that you can now distinguish between non-accepted guests that have declined and those that haven’t replied. You can also choose Select... to define your own selection. For example, you can choose a single guest to print a place card for. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • The following additional substitution texts have been added to the Stationery pane:
  • {table_groups_multi_line} : a list of groups at a table on multiple lines
  • {table_groups} : a list of groups at a table on one line
  • The speed of the automatic seat assignment has been improved by approximately 10%. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • Check the hide new/open/recent/save tool bar icons check box in the Preferences window to hide these common tool bar buttons. This box is unchecked by default on Windows and checked by default on MacOSX. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • When you add a new table it now defaults to the properties of the last added table of the same shape. E.g. if the last circular table you added had 10 seats, the next table added will default to 10 seats. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • When you add a new item of text to the Stationery pane it now defaults to the same size, colour and fonts previously added text. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • The default names for export files are now more explanatory. E.g. the default name for a PDF guest chart export from plan “my plan” is “my plan guest chart.pdf”. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • The following keyboard accelerators have been added:
  • MacOSX
  • Cmd+B: Numbers and budget
  • Cmd+E: Export
  • Cmd+I: Import
  • Cmd+Shift+I: Information (previously Cmd+I)
  • Cmdl+/: RSVP accepted
  • Cmd+*: RSVP declined
  • A page summarising all the keyboard accelerators has also been added to the help in the User interface section. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • Moving the mouse wheel up and down now defaults to scrolling rather than zooming. This is for consistency between panes. You can change the default in the Preferences window. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • When importing VIP status the VIP status is set to on if the import field starts with ‘V’, ‘v’, ‘Y’ or ‘y’. Previously only ‘Y’ or ‘y’ were accepted. This means that you can use ‘vip’ to denote VIP status. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • The Order online tool bar button has been renamed to the more explanatory Posters & cards and the icon changed. It now displays a web page that allows you to order place cards as well as poster prints. [Added in v4.0.0]

  • The Print task in the Basic user interface has been renamed to Output for clarity. [Added in v4.0.0]

Pixel units are still supported for backward compatibility. See ‘Integrating with PerfectTablePlan’ in the help for more details. [Added in v4.0.0]
  • The maximum size of a shape has been increased from 100 to 999 (feet or metres). [Added in v4.0.0]

  • An import mapping has been added for the pingg.com online RSVP service. [Added in v4.0.2]

We have now worked around this problem. Note that the printer name may still be shown as Unknown for second and subsequent printouts - this shouldnt affect printing.
