What's new in IBM Notes 9.0

  • See messages in your Inbox grouped by date, for example, "Today", "Yesterday", "Last Week", etc.
  • Mail views now show abbreviated, simplified dates - for example, the current day's mail messages show only the time received.
  • The first 100 characters of a mail message can be previewed directly from your Inbox view.
  • A new action bar button in the Inbox allows you to mark messages Read or Unread, instead of using the Edit menu.
  • You will now see a thumbnail preview of attachment images when reading MIME email.
  • Instead of viewing only one entire month at a time, now you can scroll through the One Month view of the calendar 1 week at a time.
  • The Weekly Planner view shows the days of the week in a two-column format, similar to the Weekly view in the Notes Basic Client.
  • Calendar entries can now be color-coded by category.
  • Embedded experiences allow you to access and work with embedded content from applications inside OpenSocial containers, directly in your Notes mail.
  • Search results can be more easily sorted by your selected view sort order. The search experience for Notes views has also been improved.
  • You can now simultaneously search your mail file and any mail archive applications you may have created.

New in IBM Notes 8.5.3 (Feb 10, 2012)

  • Lotus Notes and Domino 8.5.3 includes entitlement to the IBM Connections files and profiles components adding significant capabilities to help clients become a social business
  • Enhanced new mail notification which optionally provides a pop up preview (containing both sender and subject) of new mail messages as they arrive.
  • Improved sorting on email subject content that ignores the "Re:" and "Fw:" prefix, from reply & forward respectively, providing a more accurate sorting of your data.
  • A new option to search by sender or subject available when you right click an email.
  • Optionally leave countered meetings on your calendar. Allow countered meetings to show up in a unique color, with the time the meeting was originally scheduled for as well as maintaining the ability to act on the original calendar invite and with hover text indicating the new proposed time.
  • Optionally notify existing invitees when adding or removing attendees from an existing meeting, informing them of the change and updating the invitee list on their calendar invitation, as well as other options which negate the need for a user to process any meeting updates for anything other than a change in time, eg. a reschedule.
  • Significant improvements to recent contacts, allowing end users more control over who gets added to recent contacts and improved data integrity.
  • Geographic and time zone information is be displayed in the business card.
  • Apple Mac usability improvements for e-mail gestures include the ability to drag one or grouped files to the Lotus Notes icon on your dock, and a new mail message will be created with those files attached.
  • Embedded IBM Sametime is upgraded to V8.5.1 with an incremental installer to IBM Sametime 8.5.2, and embedded IBM Lotus Symphony is upgraded to V3.0.
  • Additional platform support includes RHEL 6.0 Desktop, Citrix XenApp 6.0, and enhanced 64-bit toleration for Microsoft Windows.

New in IBM Notes 8.5.2 (Sep 19, 2010)

  • Improve your mail experience through the use of managed mail replicas. Many Lotus Notes mail users have optimized their mail experience by accessing a local replica of their mail instead of on the IBM® Lotus® Domino® server. But some users don't know how to create or maintain a local replica. Now, Lotus Domino administrators can create and configure local replicas through policies using the new managed mail replica feature.
  • Easily determine which archive you have open among multiple archives. When you are working in an archive, the title will say "Archive" and then the name of the archive.
  • Save mail messages in a .eml file format
  • View, as well as reserve, rooms and resources in your calendar. And private iCalendar feeds can now be added to your calendar.
  • Make your contacts or groups private, and gain more control over which addresses are added to your recent contacts list.
  • Compliance with 2009 Federal Desktop Core Configuration requirements

  • Quickly create a meeting invitations by dragging an email from the inbox into the day-at-a-glance calendar. The meeting invitees are copied from the email To: and CC: lists, the meeting subject is copied from the email subject, the meeting description is set to the email body – reducing the need to copy and paste between documents.
  • Save time when resizing with tables in email by simply dragging and dropping table corners.
  • Take action quickly on a meeting invitation on the action bar within the preview pane, eliminating the need to fully open the invitation.
  • Find information directly through Widgets and Live Text support on the Linux and Apple Mac OS platforms.
