JSesh Changelog

What's new in JSesh 6.5.10

Sep 21, 2016
  • Should fix some problems of interaction between Java versions and OS X Capitan.
  • When launched, asks for the "right" java version to run, if it's not installed.

New in JSesh 6.5.6 (Jan 15, 2016)

  • bug fix for PDF output: PDF export of files with explicit page break used to fail.
  • sign D280A added.
  • a few new texts: beginning of P. Harris, and Ramses' great dedicatory inscription in Abydos.
  • a standalone version for mac os X (10.9 and later), which includes java.

New in JSesh 6.5.1 (May 4, 2015)

  • Thanks to Mr. Serge Thomas skill, we now have a full coverage of the Hieroglyphica. The forty signs or so which were missing are now available. Thanks again! Aside from this, JSesh 6.5.1 has mainly a few bug fixes. In particular, it deals with a nasty bug which was found in PDF generation for printing (some signs were not in CMYK format. It might seem cryptic to you, but it's important for printing shops).

New in JSesh 6.4.1 (Apr 24, 2014)

  • Bug fix:
  • In column mode, empty cartouches made the program crash (stuff like -ra-mn:n-xpr-).

New in JSesh 6.3.3 (Sep 10, 2013)

  • Most important feature : fixed a bug probably introduced with JSesh 6.0 :
  • When a sign was selected in the Palette using a phonetic code, the software would freeze. That's fixed now.
  • A number of missing signs have been added : some complete the MdC coverage (regarding the hieroglyphic), plus a few others for Unicode coverage, and finally one or two signs I have recently met.
  • The signs which are added because they are in the Unicode system, and not in the Hieroglyphica have a code ending in EXTU : US22F31AEXTU (sign by S. Thomas, (US22) for F31A in Unicode).
  • Removed a feature originally introduced to speed up rendering, but which only took lots of memory on modern machines. Now JSesh will be less memory-hungry.

New in JSesh 6.3.2 (Mar 8, 2013)

  • the last line of a justified text is left as is if the line is too short.
  • inter-quadrant skips are now parts of document preferences and they can be changed.

New in JSesh 6.3.1 (Mar 8, 2013)

  • user information added with the SignInfo application was not used in the user interface.

New in JSesh 6.3.0 (Feb 28, 2013)

  • Better behaviour when importing Winglyph files : if JSesh doesn't understand a line in a winglyph file, it will now read the rest of the text, and display the MdC line as plain text. Previous behaviour was to print an error message and stop reading.
  • Bug fix in the palette behaviour (in some cases, the palette displayed the same sign a number of times)
  • Bug fix: WYSIWYG copy method did not always use "as one picture" to export the picture.
  • Help menu (opens the JSesh documentation web site)
  • And, most important, a basic justification system

New in JSesh 6.0.0 (Sep 15, 2012)

  • The main feature, along with small fixes, etc. is a "glossary editor". Select a few groups, open the glossary editor, give a code to the group, and then, access the group simply by typing the code.
  • The code can be anything that looks like manuel de codage, even a code already used elsewhere: the system uses the "space" key to cycle between all possibilities.
  • As a side effect, the grouping commands like ":" and "*" works in a more natural way.

New in JSesh 5.8 (Jul 6, 2012)

  • The graphical format preference for "RTF copy/pastes" was not saved correctly.

New in JSesh 5.7 (Mar 26, 2012)

  • It solves a problem on windows: the choice of transliteration font was not correctly kept when the font was the "old" JSesh transliteration font (non unicode).

New in JSesh 5.6 (Mar 3, 2012)

  • updates in the texts (from hie format to the new JSesh format)
  • important bug fix for PDF cut and paste (not pdf export) : the proportions are now the same as the original proportions
  • fix for transliteration font (in some conditions, the Windows version of JSesh kept forgetting that it was using JSesh old font)
  • portuguese and spanish translation (please test and send feedback)
  • bug fix in SVG reading. JSesh can now handle SVG signs with "arcs" in them.
  • better shapes for numbers 2 and 3.
  • Quick pdf export : folder selection now ok
  • Shading is now placed under the drawings, solving problems in PDF export (we don't use transparency, to avoid problems when printing).

New in JSesh 5.4 (Sep 22, 2011)

  • Keyboard shortcuts for "insert space" and "insert half space" are back due to popular demand
  • Fixed a problem with Unicode transliteration font. Also use the correct font when copy/pasting as RTF text (works in Mellel and OpenOffice at least)
  • clear all/select all should works
  • Direct copy paste on windows If you select "EMF" as clipboard format on Windows, you will be able to paste your JSesh text directly in softwares like PowerPoint
  • some changes in preferences were not always taken into account on Mac OS X. Solved.

New in JSesh 3.0 (Mar 18, 2010)

  • This release main feature is a complete coverage of the Manuel de Codage extended sign library. I deemed this feature remarquable enough to warrant an increase in the version number. Thanks M. Thomas !

New in JSesh 2.8.9 (Feb 5, 2009)

  • New families from S. Thomas : "M" and "O" families are now complete.
  • Improved palette. I need to write a documentation, but you can now combine searches, e.g:
  • you can find signs in the "A" family which are both "armed" and "seated"
  • you can filter the displayed signs to find one which contains a given glyph.
  • I have entered some data about glyphs to eases searches for some families. Basic information is now available for "A", "B", "C", "D", "E", "F" and "G" families. Families "B" and "C" are fully functionnal as far as the "palette" is concerned.
  • It is now possible to use Window's "Enhanced Metafile" format for exporting graphics from JSesh, both as a files and in cut and paste. Beware: Mac OS X has only a partial support of EMF, so EMF exports are probably not a good idea on the Mac, nor if you want to send a word file to a mac user.

New in JSesh 2.8.1 (Nov 11, 2008)

  • IMPORTANT BUG FIX: the scale used in "edited groups" was wrong since august 2008 (I typed 10000 instead of 1000 when cleaning up the drawingSpecification system). Old groups did not print well as a result of this. Of course, with this bug fix,
  • you will need to re-arrange groups in text written with the faulty systems.
  • Usability improvement: cut and paste of right-to-left text or text in column did give strange results with the default settings. I have fixed this, and introduced a new option in the preferences: "respect layout", which is "on" by default. When it's "off", JSesh uses left-to-right text. A new "copy" mode has been introduced: wysiwyg. Note that right-to-left cut and paste will probably be improved at some time, because the left-to-right default is not very "international" (it doesn't mix well with arabic or hebrew texts, for instance).
  • And, once more, a whole new family of font have been updated. JSesh has now a complete "N" family from S. Thomas. I have also worked on the glyphs description, and the "man and its occupation" family is on its way. More to come

New in JSesh 2.4.16 (Jun 2, 2008)

  • complete "C", "G", and "H" families: all the gods and birds you wanted, and more.
  • a few signs have been fixed when they contained errors.
  • the data on the "C" family has been completely typed, so that you can see what the palette can do. Find a god sign using one of his attributes !
  • An experimental window executable installer is provided, for people with windows Vista (it also works on XP)
  • A bug fix with Mac OS X Leopard, which made JSesh very slow on this system, has been made. Please tell me if it works, as I cautiously keep my Tiger.
