Mate Translate Changelog

What's new in Mate Translate 7.1.0

Nov 27, 2020
  • Are you as excited about Apple Silicon Macs as we are? Mate now natively runs on brand-new M1 processors.
  • How about Big Sur? A Big Yes. We neatly optimized Mate for the latest macOS and redesigned the app icon from scratch to reflect its Big Sur'ness. We also smoothened Mate's menu bar and Safari toolbar icons.
  • We also squashed a few pesky bugs:
  • Mate could randomly open when you woke up your Mac from sleep or turned it on.
  • Some entries in Phrasebook could be improperly truncated.

New in Mate Translate 7.0.0 (Jul 24, 2020)

  • Mate goes Netflix:
  • Can you learn languages while binge-watching favourite Netflix shows? Now you can. We've made a revolutionary integration. Mate pairs with Netflix player in Safari and lets you look up translations in a very unobtrusive way – by clicking on words or selecting sentences.
  • This update is all about the Safari extension, so we further improved and fixed some other things, too:
  • Toolbar button doesn't do nothing anymore. It translates text that you selected on the page.
  • Clicking on flags in the translation tooltip now invokes the language picker.

New in Mate Translate 6.2.0 (Mar 1, 2020)

  • If on-page translation in Safari is loading for too long, you can now dismiss it, so it's not cluttering the page forever. Click elsewhere or press Esc to dismiss.
  • On-page translation tooltip supports swapping now.
  • We localized the app to new languages: Swedish, Turkish, Arabic, Thai, Vietnamese, Dutch, Danish, Polish, Romanian, Italian, Indonesian.
  • Previously, if you started the speak out for a long text and minimized the app, it'd keep talking, now it won't.
  • Speak out button for the original text was sliding down and up every time you translated something causing misclicks if you wanted to clear the input field. We made that panel more stable – it won't jump around anymore.
  • Issue with the wrong Mate's window positioning on multiple displays was fixed. Previously, Mate could pop up on the wrong monitor. Now it won't.
  • Safari extension wasn't localized (more precisely, localizations weren't loading properly). Now they load properly.
  • No Google and Facebook sign-in methods. We removed them for privacy and maintenance reasons. More here: http://blog.gikken.co/were-removing-third-party-login-methods-from-mate/

New in Mate Translate 6.1.0 (Sep 19, 2019)

  • Full-page translation in Safari is here! Just right-click on any page and select "Translate this page". Please note this feature is in beta now. Also, it may not work on certain pages like [Medium.com](http://medium.com) due to Safari's technical limitations.

New in Mate Translate 6.0.2 (Apr 14, 2019)

  • Fixed a bug that led to losing recent languages and settings for some users.

New in Mate Translate 6.0.0 (Apr 9, 2019)

  • NEW: Mate's Safari extension.
  • Translate words by double clicking on them on web pages in Safari. Translate sentences by highlighting them. Enable the extension in Safari preferences for this.
  • NEW: China-friendly.
  • Mate should work in Mainland China without VPN now. Also, we localized the app into Chinese.
  • The speak-out feature now works a few additional languages: Hebrew, Ukrainian and Bulgarian. Learning pronunciation has become easier!
  • A couple of pesky bugs were squashed, too. The app should be more stable and slick now.
  • Please send us feedback at [email protected]. And, tell a friend about Mate if you like it! It will go a long way in supporting us.

  • Fixed:
  •
It was crashing on El Capitan sometimes. Now, it isn't.

Translation layout was collapsing after a couple of consequent language changes. Now, it isn't.

New in Mate Translate 4.0.0 (Dec 4, 2017)

  • We’ve got a massively Instant Translate update here! Now it’s called Mate. And it’s literally going to become your mate who always has your back with translations, believe us. We made a significant redesign of the app which resulted in vastly improved readability, contrast, and the UX. Every single user-interface element became more perceptible, readable, and understandable.
  • Of course, we also added some amazing features you’ve been asking for. The major one is the synchronization of all your translation history and Phrasebook. Mate now synchronizes all your translations so that you can reference them wherever you want. You can install Mate on a variety of devices and Mate will synchronize between all of them.
  • Sign up to stay synchronized and up to date with all our future updates!
  • We also ditched lots of nasty bugs that some of you were reporting about. For example, Mate now properly works in full-screen apps and when the menu bar is hidden. We’re always trying to improve the app to deliver you the best translation experience ever.
