HyperRESEARCH Changelog

What's new in HyperRESEARCH 3.7.3

Aug 11, 2015
  • Version 3.7.3 addresses a rare, but serious, bug and upgrading from 3.7.2 to 3.7.3 is strongly recommended.
  • Also improved media sources enable you to enter start and end times for video.

New in HyperRESEARCH 3.7.2 (Mar 3, 2015)

  • New features and enhancements such as:
  • Case and code filters can now filter by source file as well as individually by code and by code relationships,
  • Our new Study Packager tool makes it easier to store, back-up, and exchange entire studies (including sources). And it automatically creates a single compressed file out of a study file and its sources.
  • The Mixed Methods Importer tool takes your survey data from a spreadsheet and automatically builds a complete study. It allows you to take a quantitative study such as a survey, and incorporate and analyze qualitative data in a mixed methods study.
  • Improved media sources enable you to enter start and end times for video
  • Improved page layout and printing
  • Improved handling of accented case and code names between platforms
  • Improved text source window scrolling and selection
  • Improved Annotation handling
  • Many more enhancements and integrity improvements.

New in HyperRESEARCH 3.7.1 (Oct 28, 2014)

  • New features and enhancements:
  • Filter cases and code references by source file, as well as individually, by code, and by code relationships
  • The new Study Packager tool makes it easier to store, back up, and exchange entire studies (including their sources)
  • The Mixed Methods Importer tool takes your survey data from a spreadsheet and automatically builds a study you can integrate with your qualitative data
  • Stability improvements
  • More changes and enhancements:
  • In the Sources List, you can now specify a new location for any source file if the file has been moved or renamed.
  • Code names can now include almost all characters, including international and accented characters.
  • In the Movie and Audio Source window, you can now directly set the current time and the start and end of the selected segment, by clicking the times above the movie or audio player.
  • When using the Edit ► Find command in a source window, the found text is now selected and ready to code.
  • Improved handling when you try to save a file that has been moved or renamed while it’s open, or which is no longer available (for example, on a thumb drive which has been removed).
  • The Frequency Report tool now gives the count for only filtered references, instead of all references, when the Only Filtered Codes and Cases option is selected.
  • You can now select and copy text from the Help window and from the Error Report window (which we hope you will never see).
  • For site license administrators, the command-line installation option no longer requires a chmod command after installing HyperRESEARCH on OS X. The application is now automatically made executable during the installation. (For more information about command-line installation, see Installation and Requirements in the User Guide, or Help that comes with HyperRESEARCH 3.7.1.)
  • Improvements in source file handling:
  • If a source file has been moved, HyperRESEARCH now checks the study file’s folder (and all its subfolders), as well as the location of other source files in the study, to see whether it can be found. You will be asked to locate the file only if HyperRESEARCH can’t find it in any of these locations. This makes reorganizing your source files in subfolders, and moving your entire study between computers, much easier. Most of the time, you will no longer be asked where a source file is. Instead, HyperRESEARCH will find and use it automatically for you.
  • HyperRESEARCH now checks whether a source file has changed since it was last used. If it has been changed, it warns you and offers an opportunity to locate the correct version of the file.
  • When adding a folder of sources in the Sources List window, HyperRESEARCH now adds all source types—not just text. It also offers the option to add files from all subfolders, not just the top level of the folder.
  • Changes to handling HyperTRANSCRIBE files:
  • If you open a HyperTRANSCRIBE source file and its media file can’t be found, HyperRESEARCH now automatically looks for it in the folder that the HyperTRANSCRIBE file is in, along with its subfolders.
  • If the media file’s location has changed, and HyperRESEARCH locates it—either automatically or by asking you where it is—it offers to update the media file’s location stored in the HyperTRANSCRIBE file. This means that when you open the file in HyperTRANSCRIBE, it will not need to ask where the media file is.
  • Improvements to Word Counter tool:
  • Word Counter now counts words automatically when opened.
  • Click a word to temporarily remove it from the count, to add it to the list of words to ignore, autocode it, or search all text sources for it.
  • Statistics have been added in both the Cloud View and the List View: total words, total sources in the count, and total occurrences of the selected word(s).
  • In the Settings dialog box, you can restore the default settings.
  • The Word List and Word Cloud can now be printed.
  • Stability and study integrity improvements:
  • HyperRESEARCH now automatically fixes corrupted annotations if it finds them when opening a study.
  • Annotations for duplicate code references are now merged.
  • Code references in the study window and source window are now synchronized.
  • New QA Logger feature lets you create a diagnostic report for use by technical support.
  • Adding a source now results in asking you to save when quitting or closing a study.
  • The Import Other Studies command now does a better job with the Free Limited Edition.
  • Saving setting files now requires the correct extension.
  • Bug fixes:
  • A problem that sometimes resulted in missing text when printing the source window has been fixed.
  • The Report Builder now sorts correctly by code.
  • A problem which occasionally caused the Annotation box to be locked out has been fixed.
  • Various minor problems have been addressed.
