New in Hyper Plan 2.10.0 (May 1, 2019)

  • You can now output your plan to HTML format using File>Export>Table>HTML.
  • You now have a choice of the default color palettes used to visualize card text and numeric properties. There are 12 text color palettes and 14 numeric color palettes, including some aimed at customers with color defective vision. As previously, these are just default colors and can be overridden for any property.
  • If you have the Cards pane set to a stored view and the plan is updated by another Hyper Plan instance (on your computer or elsewhere on the network) your stored view is maintained. This means that you can have multiple Hyper Plan instances with different views of the same plan.
  • Hyper Plan now refreshes just after midnight so that the change in date is automatically taken account of, e.g. for cards that are colored by date.
  • The location of the plan file has been moved to the front of the >Main window caption. This allows you to more easily select the correct window when you have more than one instance running. If the Cards pane is set to a stored view and visible, then the stored view name is also shown.
  • Fixed an issue where dragging a card to a different column (row) but the same row (column) could affect the row (column) value for date or numeric properties.
  • Carriage returns in the Notes field are now preserved in the Cards pane tooltip when you hover over the card.
  • Tooltips are now shown when you hover over the Notes or Hyperlinks columns in the Table pane.
  • When cards are exported, the connections are encoded using zero-based indexing. However when only selected cards were exported the indexing didn't take account of the missing cards. This is now fixed.

  • Previously Hyper Plan stopped at the first blank line when importing a CSV file. It now just ignores blank lines.
  • Fixed an issue that could temporarily cause an invalid layout in the Cards or Charts pane when Date order was changed in the Preferences.
  • Fixed an issue where the Documents/Backup folder was being continually re-created when it wasn't being used for backups.
  • The free trial has been extended from 7 (non-consecutive) days to 14 (non-consecutive) days.

  • From Hyper Plan v2.9.4 the size of the Main window was not being correctly restored when Hyper Plan re-started. This is now fixed.
  • In the New Plan and Connection Types window you had to 'enter' (e.g. Tab away from) changes to text field before clicking OK. This is now fixed.
  • In v2.9.5 Ctrl+click was not recognized as equivalent to right click. This is now fixed.
  • You can now add and remove connections to/from a card in the Connections tab of the Card Properties window. This makes it easier to cope in large diagrams with lots of connections.
  • When cards are laid out by connectivity you can now navigate between then using Ctrl (Windows) / Cmd (Mac) + arrow key.
  • Tooltips are now shown when you hover over the Connections columns in the Table pane.
  • Fixed an issue in the Table pane where coloring rows by property didn't show Connections column text in the correct contrast color.
  • Hyper Plan now uses anti-aliasing when zoomed out to improve the appearance of connections (previously it was only used when zoomed in).
  • Added the 'Technology tree' example plan

  • Home and Professional Editions:
  • There is a new Notes pane. You can use this to record general information about your plan.

  • You can now right-click on the row header of the Properties pane to access a context menu.
  • Each property now has associated an associated Notes field.
  • There is now a Browse (Windows)/Choose (Mac) button in the Add Hyperlink and Edit Hyperlink windows, so you can more easily link to local files.
  • You can now display a prefix before (e.g. "$" or "£") and/or a suffix after (e.g. "€", days" or "Kg") numeric property values, when displayed in cards and when totalled. The prefix and suffix are set in the Add Property and Edit Property windows.
  • You can now choose Quarterly as the bin size for date properties
  • The Date format in the Preferences window previously always defaulted to DD-MM-YYYY It now defaults to MM-DD-YYYY if your computer's system locale is set to the USA and DD-MM-YYYY elsewhere
  • The Connections column in the Table pane and the Connections tab in the Card Properties window are now only visible in the Professional editon of Hyper Plan
  • Previously it was difficult to change the case of a property value in the Add Card and Edit Card windows (eg from "YES" to "yes"), due to auto-completion This has been fixed by making the auto-completion case-sensitive
  • Double-clicking on the header of a text property in the Cards window now opens the appropriate Edit Property window Previously it created a new card
  • The default for Cards>Appearance>Card spacing has been increased from 0 to 10 Increasing card spacing helps to make connections more legible in the Professional edition
  • Totals in the Cards pane are now not shown using exponents, unless they are more than 10 digits long
  • Hyper Plan now warns you if any date values in your plan are not compatible with the date format currently set in the Preferences window This is checked when you open a plan and when you change the date format in the Preferences window You can disable the warning

  • You can now preserve card column (row) during dragging by holding down the Ctrl key and dragging to the same column (row) in a different row (column) In v270 this was done with the Shift key But this feature was broken by using the Shift key to add connections in v286
  • A more informative error message is now shown if you try to open an empty (0 size) plan file
  • Hyper Plan was previously slow at calculating bins for numeric properties with very large ranges This is now fixed
  • We have added some more example plans
  • Professional Edition only:
  • You can now layout by connectivity in one direction and a property in the other. This allows you to easily partition the connectivity by status, team, priority or any other property for easier comprehension. For example to create a 'swimlane' diagram with a sequence of tasks partioned by role. Hyper Plan can automatically layout 1000s of cards by connectivity and property. This was very chellenging to get right!

  • The speed with which cards are automatically laid out by connectivity has been improved
  • We have made some improvements to the aesthetics of how arrows join boxes

If you add it above or below a column, the column value will be set to that column and the row value will be set to the row property default. If you add it left or right of a row, the row value will be set to that row and the column value will be set to the column property default.
  • The current date is now highlighted in the calendar pop-up window.
  • current date highlighted
  • Previously if you clicked the Add Property... button in the Add Card window and added a property of type Date the calendar button was disabled. This is now fixed.

  • The 'intelligent' text sizing algorithm has been improved to better handle writing in very small spaces (e.g. very small headers).
  • The padding inside cards has been increased slightly, to stop text nearly touching the edge of the card.
  • Previously, if you moved the mouse wheel while hovering over a 'spin box' control (the ones that have up and down arrows to change a number) in the left pane, the value of the control could change. This now only happens if you have clicked on the spin box first. This reduces the chance of unintended edits while scrolling the left pane up and down with the mouse wheel.

New in Hyper Plan 2.5.0 (Nov 4, 2016)

  • The Charts and Table panes now have the same filtering as the Cards pane.
  • In Advanced filtering you can now filter by the 'Notes' field only.
  • You can now temporarily disable your filter in the Cards pane. This is useful if you want to see what your plan looks like without the current filter, but don't want to delete the filter.
  • You can now File>Print the Table and Properties panes.
  • With the Cards or Table pane at the front you can now restrict Edit>Replace to modify cards not hidden by filtering in that pane. The Replace window now also tells you how many of the cards that will be modified are currently visible.

  • A sample .csv file is now installed.
  • We have added some more help tips.
  • You can now turn off tips in the Prompts tab of the Preferences window.
  • We have added a 'Help' button into the toolbar. You can choose to hide it in the Toolbar tab of the Preferences window.

New in Hyper Plan 2.4.1 (Sep 27, 2016)

  • The format of date headers in the Cards pane has been improved. Day and month names are based on your system locale.
  • Relative dates such as 'today', tomorrow' and '+7' can now be used when filtering date properties. Note that the property type must be explicitly set to 'Date'. Hover over the filter value field for more details.
  • Relative dates now support negative dates. For example a date of '-7' means 7 days before the current date.
  • Fixed a bug where clicking Add Property... in the Add Card window did not set the new property default value correctly.
  • On macOS 10.12 Hyper Plan checked for updates every time it was run, irrespective of the Check for software updates setting in Preferences. This is now fixed.
  • A spurious menu separator in the Help menu was removed.

New in Hyper Plan 2.4.0 (Sep 20, 2016)

  • You can now choose whether to align row header text vertically or horizontally in Cards pane row headers. Vertical alignment will generally use a lot less space.
  • You can now choose whether to show the property name in Cards pane row headers. This should make printouts easier to understand. You may need to increase the Header size if you show the property nmae.
  • You can now choose to have column and row headers 'float' as you zoom in. This makes it easier to see which columns and rows you are looking at without zooming back. You can also choose to make the headers transparent during zooming.
  • You can now use 'intelligent' date values anywhere you can enter a date, not just in the Quick add field of the Add Card window. For example, you can set the default value of a date property to 'today'. Note that this only works for properties where you have explicitly set the type to 'Date'. Hover over a date value field for more information on allowed formats for date entry.
  • You can now enter '+N' for a date value, where N is the number of days in the future. For example '+7' means a date 7 days in the future and '+0' means today. Note that this only works for properties where you have explicitly set the type to 'Date'.
  • Date values now use the locale specific abbreviations for months of the year and days of the week, rather than just taking the first 3 letters. For example, on Windows, the abbreviation for Monday is 'Lun.' using a French locale and 'Mo' using a German locale. Hover over a date value field for more information.
  • Hyper Plan saves changes when the application is idle. It now waits for a longer idle time for larger plans (which take longer to save).
  • The gradient effect aesthetics have been improved for the vertical header in the Cards pane.
  • The maximum value for Card aspect ratio in the Appearance section of the Cards pane has been increased from 3 to 5.
  • Previously if you moved a card a very small amount in the Cards pane, it didn't snap back into position. This is now fixed.
  • The alignment of spin boxes in the left pane of the Cards pane has been improved.
  • Hyper Plan was tested with Mac OS X 10.12.

New in Hyper Plan 2.3.0 (Jul 5, 2016)

  • Hyper Plan can now export the Cards and Charts panes to SVG format using File>Export. SVG is a vector format that can be displayed in most web browsers. So it can be useful when you are exporting a plan to share on the web. SVG can also be edited in vector graphic design software such as Inkscape (free) and Adobe Illustrator (commercial). The image below shows an SVG file created by Hyper Plan shown in Inkscape (left) and Adobe Illustrator (right). Inkscape seems to have better support for SVG format than Illustrator. You can also use Sozi (free) to make stylish presentations from SVG exports. All use of third party software is at your own risk.
  • The Show properties section of the Cards pane now has an option to Show as bold text or Show as italic text.
  • The Appearance section of the Cards pane now has a Header font size field. This allows you to set the header font size to Intelligent, Scaled or Fixed, just as you can with cards.
  • A date picker button is now shown next to the Default value field in the Add Property window for properties of type Date.
  • Previously, when you edited all the cards with a given value to a new value (e.g. changed all e.g. priority=high cards to priority=medium cards) the color associated with the new property value was different to the old color. The old color is now kept, as long there are no cards already with the new value and the old value is not a pre-defined value.
  • Previously there were some problems with the Tab order in the Add Card and Edit Card windows. This is now fixed.
  • Hyper Plan now warns you if you try to save your preferences in a non-writable .ini file.
  • Previously deleting an empty pre-defined row or column from the Cards pane didn't always update the pane. This is now fixed.

New in Hyper Plan 2.2.1 (Jun 10, 2016)

  • Opening large plan and CSV files is now much faster. Over 20 times faster in some cases.
  • Editing multiple cards in large plans is now faster. Over 10 times faster in some cases.

  • You now have the option to show cards with rounded corners using the Card shape field in the Appearance section of the Cards pane
  • The default name of the first property in a new plan has been changed from "Name" to "Title" (a property with a name called "Name" was too confusing!)
  • Previously the Table pane was not always updated after a card Notes field was edited
  • Previously there was an issue with the sizing of the table in the Show Properties section of the Cards pane
  • Previously cards were sometimes incorrectly redrawn after overlays were hidden in the Cards pane
  • Previously re-ordering properties could cause issues with the Charts pane
  • Tab ordering issues in the Add Card and Edit Card windows are now fixed
  • Previously the contents of the Filter tab in the Cards pane was not always correctly saved
  • Previously Edit>Select All selected rows hidden by filtering in the Table pane
  • Various other minor fixes and usability improvements

New in Hyper Plan 2.1.1 (May 4, 2016)

  • Hyper Plan v2.1.0 sometimes showed a spurious Cannot open message when first run. This is now fixed.
  • Hyper Plan was previously unable to correctly read in some CSV files with Mac OS X line endings. This is now fixed.
  • Previously the edit and delete card overlay symbols didn't always appear when hovering over a card when view>Icon Overlay was selected. This is now fixed.
  • The inferred type of an Automatic property was not always updated when a card was deleted. This is now fixed.
  • Hyper Plan now respects the decimal and thousand separators selected for your operating system. E.g. you can write one thousand point nine as 1,000.9 if your locale is set to US or UK English and 1.000,9 if your locale is set to German. You can override this using the new Number format field in the Preferences window.

New in Hyper Plan 2.1.0 (Apr 28, 2016)

  • You can now choose to store your Hyper Plan Preferences in a hyperplan.ini file in the same folder as the executable instead of in the System Registry (Windows) or ~/Library/Preferences/com.oryxdigital.HyperPlan.plist (Mac OS X). Storing your Preferences in a .ini file can be useful if you have Hyper Plan installed on a portable drive, such as a USB memory stick. If you install the Hyper Plan Windows .exe and Mac OS X .app into the same folder, they can both use the same hyperplan.ini file to store their Preferences. If you are using a .ini file, recently opened files are stored with relative paths, where possible. For more details see Can I run Hyper Plan from a memory stick?
  • You will see a Don't show this warning again check box for various warning and information windows (e.g. the warning window that appears when you delete a property). You can turn these prompts back on in the new Prompts tab of the Preferences window.
  • When you open a .csv file you will now be prompted for whether you want to create a new plan file or read the contents of the .csv file into the existing plan file.
  • You can now set the Charts pane to use the same filtering as the Cards pane by checking the Use Cards pane filtering check box in the Filtering section of the Charts pane.
  • You can now Hide zero value bars and Hide charts with no bars using the check boxes in the Display section of the Charts pane.
  • You can now choose whether to show all colors or only visible colors for the color legend in the Charts pane.
  • You can now add a new card by holding down the Alt key and left-clicking in a cell on the Cards pane.
  • If you move or resize the Add Card, Edit Card, Add Property or Edit Property windows, the new position and size is remembered next time you display the window.
  • You are now warned when newly added cards will be hidden by filtering in the Cards pane. Previously this was only for edited cards. You can disable the warning window (see 2 above).
  • You can now access hyperlinks directly from the card right-click menu.
  • In the Add Card and Edit Card windows a date picker button is now shown next to properties where the property type is Auto and a date type can be inferred from the property values. Previously the date picker was only shown for properties with the type explicitly set to Date.
  • Previously if you had a date or numeric property shown as columns and you dragged a card to a different row (but the same column) you would be prompted to enter a new date/numeric value. Hyper Plan now assumes that the value remains unchanged. Similarly for rows.
  • The appearance of the overlay icons has been improved.
  • Previously grand totals were shown in the Cards pane when cards were arranged only in rows, but not when they were arranged only in columns. This is now fixed.
  • You can now right-click on a column and check/uncheck Show this column if empty. Similarly for rows. This is quicker than adding the value to the list of pre-defined properties.
  • Previously adding a stored view when Show total for was set to crashed Hyper Plan. This is now fixed.
  • Previously it was possible for add and delete icon overlays to appear close together. This is now fixed.
  • Previously a crash could occur under certain obscure circumstances after deleting a property. This is now fixed.
  • Previously opening badly formed CSV files could cause a crash. This is now fixed.
  • The names of some of the left hand pane sections have been shortened, e.g. from Filter Cards to Filter.

New in Hyper Plan 2.0.2 (Mar 17, 2016)

  • There is now an additional View>Toolbar menu item that allows you to toggle the toolbar on/off. This fixes the issue on Mac OS X where you could hide the toolbar from a right-click menu, but not add it back in again.

New in Hyper Plan 2.0.1 (Mar 11, 2016)

  • Cards are now edited in a pop-up (modal) window, instead of being edited in the Left pane of the Cards pane. This is a significant change to the existing user interface and may take a bit of getting used to. But we have made the change on the basis of customer feedback and consulting with a usability expert. We think it is a significant improvement.
  • You can now delete selected cards using Del (Windows) or Backspace (Mac), rather than Ctrl+Del (Windows) or Cmd+Backspace (Mac). We are still supporting the old behaviour in this release, but this is deprecated and may be removed at some point.
  • There is now a Charts tab. This can be used to show bar charts of properties.
  • There is now an 'Intelligent' text scaling mode. This allows you to see more text as you zoom in.
  • The visual appearance of cards has been improved.
  • The layout of text in card 'tool tip' windows has been improved.
  • There is now a Left Pane toolbar button for toggling the Left pane open and closed.
  • You can right click on 1 or more selected cards in the Cards pane to edit, duplicate, zoom in on or delete them.
  • You can now optionally show Edit and Delete overlay icons as you hover over a card. You can toggle these icons on and off using View>Icon Overlay or Ctrl+. (Cmd+. on Mac). If you delete a card accidentally you can Edit>Undo it. The overlay icons are not shown if you zoom right back.
  • You can now add footer text using the Footer field in the Appearance section of the Cards pane. Use the Footer size field to control the text size.
  • You can now save and load settings in the Appearance section. We provide default appearance themes 'Default (light)' and 'Default (dark)'. Click the + button to save the current appearance. Saved appearances are available across all plans on the same computer.
  • You now have the option to save the current appearance settings when you create a stored view. If you don't store the appearance, then the stored view will use the current appearance settings for font, background color, legend etc.
  • 15. You can now total the number of cards (rather than a property value) in rows, columns and cells by selecting from the Show total for drop-down list in the Layout/Color Cards section. This is particularly useful if you have WIP (Work In Progress) limits for rows, columns or cells.
  • You can now drag an image, hyperlink or document onto the Cards pane (away from any cards) to create a new card containing the image or hyperlink.
  • You can now add hyperlinks to cards by dragging hyperlinks or files straight onto existing cards.
  • You can now drag an image from a browser straight into Hyper Plan. This may not work with all browsers. We have tested it successfully with FireFox (Windows/Mac), Internet Explorer (Windows) and Safari (Mac). It does not work with Chrome (drag the image to the desktop and then from the desktop to Hyper Plan).
  • You can now import images from a .csv file. The location of the images must be listed in a column called images (case is unimportant). You should use the full location (path) of the image file, e.g. on Windows: C:\images\myimage.png.
  • You can now optionally show notes and hyperlinks icons on cards. Show these icons by checking Show notes icon and Show hyperlinks icon in the Show Card Properties section of the Left pane.
  • You can now zoom in on currently selected cards using the Zoom To toolbar button, View>Zoom To Selected or or Ctrl+/ (Cmd+/ on Mac).
  • You can now use Ctrl+Left Arrow,Ctrl+Right Arrow, Ctrl+Up Arrow and Ctrl+Down Arrow to change the card selection in the Cards pane (use Cmd on Mac). The Up Arrow and Down Arrow keys change row when you move from cell to cell, while the Left Arrow and Right Arrow keys change column when you move from cell to cell.
  • When you create a new plan it now just contains the property 'Name' by default. To re-enable the old behaviour of showing the New Plan window with suggested properties, you need to check the Suggest properties for new plans check box in the Preferences window.
  • Previously you could use Ctrl+L to show the Left pane in the Cards pane and Ctrl+Alt+L to close it. Now you can use Ctrl+L to toggle it open/closed. Similarly for the panes that make it up (e.g. use Ctrl+B to toggle the Layout/Color Cards pane open/closed). This is a lot easier to remember. New in Hyper Plan 1.6.1 (Oct 28, 2015)

  • Hyper Plan is now much faster at calculating the card layout. This is particularly noticeable when you have 1000+ cards. On one particularly large plan the we tested the layout calculation time was reduced from 10 seconds to 0.1 second.
  • Previously text was scaled to fit cards. You can now optionally set a fixed font size for all cards using the new Font size fields in the Appearance section of the Cards pane. If there is too much text for the space available in the card, then the text will be truncated.
  • You can now control whether the color legend displays the colors of cards hidden by filtering.
  • If you hover over a cell in the Cards pane a small '+' will appear at the bottom right of the cell. Click this to add a new card to this cell.
  • You can now right click on the Links field to get a menu which allows you to Paste links or Clear all links.
  • You can now preserve the rows or columns of cards during drag and drop using the Shift key.
  • You can now choose whether to show totals for cells, rows and columns or just rows and columns using the new in cells check box in the Layout/Color cards section.
  • Some applications create CSV files delimited by ';' (semi-colon) instead of ',' (comma) characters - despite the C standing for comma (duh). Hyper Plan now tries to handle this when importing CSV files.
  • You can now control how long card animations take using the Animation duration field in the Preferences window. Set it to 0 if you don't want animated transitions.
  • You can now turn off the text in the toolbar by unchecking Show text in toolbar in the Preferences window.
  • The advanced filtering of cards previously ignored any filter with no value. This meant it was difficult to, for example, hide cards with an empty value for a particular property. This is now fixed. Thanks to David B for reporting this.
  • The number of plans recorded in File>Recent Files has been increased to 10.
  • The maximum header size in the Cards pane has been increased.
  • Hyper Plan now gives you the option to rename associated stored views when you rename a property. Thanks to George R for suggesting this.
  • Previously creating a new plan and then cancelling the New plan window still created a new plan. This is now fixed. Thanks to various people for reporting this.
  • Previously Hyper Plan recalculated the card layout when notes or other fields not involved in the layout were updated. This is now fixed. Thanks to Rodrigo for reporting this.
  • Previously pre-defined property values were not always filtered correctly. This is now fixed.

  • Hyper Plan now remembers if View>Card Tool Tips was checked last time it was run. Thanks for Benoit for the suggestion.

New in Hyper Plan 1.5.1 (Jul 27, 2015)

  • Hyper Plan now supports images in cards. So you can add images of colleagues and customers, logos, icons or any other type of image to your cards. Just drag and drop the image file onto the card.
  • Alternatively click the button next to the Image drop-down list to show the Images window and add images there. You can also delete images and edit image names. Images are listed in alphabetical order of name.
  • Once you have added images to your plan, you can select one or more cards and set the image in the Image drop-down list in the Edit Card Properties section.
  • ou can control the visibility, size and position of images in the Show Card Properties section.
  • Some web browsers (e.g. FireFox) allow you to drag images direct from a web page.
  • PNG, JPG and BMP format images are supported. Images larger than 128x128 pixels are scaled to 128x128 pixels inside Hyper Plan (the original image is unchanged).
  • You can now choose a property to be of type Automatic, Text, Numeric or Date. If the type is Automatic, Hyper Plan will treat the property as Text, Numeric or Date depending on the values it has.
  • If you set a property to have type Date, a date selector button will appear for that property in the Edit Card properties section of the Cards pane. When you click the button a pop-up calendar will appear, making it easy for you to select a date.
  • You can now display a color legend in the Cards pane. This can be very useful when you are printing or exporting your plan. Set the Color legend drop-down list in the Appearance section to Bottom or Right to show the legend below or to the right of the cards.
  • Previously cards were laid out in a cell of the Cards pane by the order in which they were created. You can now specify a property to order them by using the Arrange in cell by field in the Layout/Color Cards section. For example, if you have a 'Priority' property you can order them by their priority.
  • You can now choose whether the main window menu, toolbar and tabs appear in full screen mode using the Show menu+toolbar+tabs in full screen mode check box in the Preferences window. The default behaviour is now to hide them. Press the Escape key to exit full screen mode.
  • The Add Stored View window now allows you to choose from existing view names when you add a new stored view. This makes it easier to modify existing stored views.
  • Hyper Plan dynamically colors text on cards black or white, depending on how dark the card is, in order to maximise contrast. Previously it didn't always make a good choice (e.g. black on saturated blue). We have now improved this.
  • Previously exporting plans with non-Latin characters to .csv caused problems. Hyper Plan now encodes these files in UTF-8 (on Windows) and UTF-16 (on Mac OS X).
  • A TXT option has been added to the File>Export menu. This is particularly useful for exporting your data to Excel on Mac OS X, as Excel on Mac doesn't handle UTF-16 encoded .csv files very well, but can open UTF-16 encoded .txt files.
  • Previously clicking on the zoom slider in the Cards pane (rather than dragging it) didn't work. This is now fixed.
  • Previously some columns or rows could get hidden even when show empty bins was checked for a property. This is now fixed.
  • Previously hyperlinks were not duplicated when you duplicated a card. This is now fixed.
  • There was a bug related to deleting selected filters in the Filter cards section in Advanced mode. This is now fixed.
