  • Checkbook now requires Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite or later.
  • On newer versions of Mac OS, sometimes large sections of the transaction list would be shown in gray text for no reason. Only voided transactions are supposed to be shown in gray.
  • In light mode, selected rows could be hard to read.

  • Checkbook runs natively on Apple silicon in new Macs.
  • Hold down the option key when you look at the File menu to change “Save As” to “Save As to Original Folder,” which will show the folder in which the file currently resides.

  • A new preference allows Checkbook window tabbing to override the default behavior, always tabbing or never. Tabbing now works for new untitled documents as well.
  • A new command, Checkbook→Check for GrowlyBird News, will automatically check for news on our website (updates or new products) and let you know when new information is available. This makes it easy to watch for changes to your favorite GrowlyBird apps.

  • You can trim down your document without losing any data by ??? all the transactions from prior years.
  • If you have a credit card that’s not a built-in type, or two cards of the same type, you can now distinguish between them by setting custom transaction types in ???.
  • You can batch-rename transactions using Account→​Rename Transactions. This completely sidesteps the capitalization issues with auto-completion.
  • The global options that used to be scattered around various menus are now gathered together in a Preferences panel.
  • The tabbed windows introduced in Mac OS 10.12 Sierra are supported.
  • Many other interface improvements.
  • Checkbook is now a 64-bit app and requires Mac OS 10.8 Mountain Lion.

New in Growly Checkbook 1.2.0 (Sep 8, 2017)

  • Something in a recent update to Mac OS broke Checkbook. I couldn’t pin down exactly what it was, but I managed to fix it anyway. Checkbook still supports Mac OS 10.7 Lion, but it won’t always.

  • When you perform a search, the status bar at the bottom shows the sum of all the transactions that were found.
