Ghost Browser Changelog

What's new in Ghost Browser 2.1.1.16

Sep 25, 2020
  • Today we are releasing version 2.1.1.16 with a lot of improvements that we think you will love!
  • The biggest improvements are to our Private Data Sync (PDS) tools. In case you missed it, we released initial versions of PDS earlier this year with limiting data types able to be synced to a data storage service (like Dropbox, OneDrive or Blockstacks) of your choice to put you in more control of that data. That release had limited data types that you could sync.
  • Private Data Sync - New Data Types:
  • But Private Data Sync now also allows you to link your browser data on multiple computers so you have an even closer replication of your experience no matter what computer you log into Ghost Browser on.
  • Today's update greatly expands on the data that you can sync. You can now sync:
  • Bookmarks (previously released)
  • Your Identities list (previously released)
  • Workspaces
  • Proxies
  • Sessions
  • Tabs
  • Cookies (and they will be in the same Sessions and Identities you created them in.
  • So, basically, whatever experience you have on one computer, you will have almost exactly on another. This will achieve two things:
  • Giving you a consistent experience no matter what computer you are on.
  • Allowing you to sync with another colleague so they can use your set up (if they are using the same log in as you at different times.)
  • We are very excited to launch these sync data types as they have been highly requested.
  • Other Improvements:
  • We've reworked the code that controls proxies in Ghost Proxy Control and Sessions to improve the syncing of these items so that the default names, the colors and and the Session order and colors will more accurately sync.
  • The above changes will also improve the experience of proxy allocation when you make changes in Ghost Proxy Control. Please be aware if you delete any proxy all assigned with this proxy Identities and Sessions will loose it too.
  • We've added the ability to open a new Identity and Duplicate a tab into an Identity from the page context menu.
  • We've fixed the data import from Chrome to fix the importing of your passwords saved in Chrome. (These are of course imported from your local machine and never hit our servers).
  • We've made improvements so if you downgrade your license plan any tabs you have that exceed your new Sessions or Identities limits will not open into a global session. Now they will just have a blocking page with an explanation of the reason it's there so you don't accidentally open any tabs with IP from your Global session.
  • New shortcut added to open a tab in a new Identity.
  • Public API Changes:
  • We've major changes to the initial version of our public API. If you are using the API, please see this update.
  • Other Notes:
  • You will now see a new ID listed next to new Sessions. This is for sorting purposes and to provide you with a new experience. Don't let it worry you! If you change the name of a Session this ID will go away.

New in Ghost Browser 2.1.1.11 (Apr 17, 2020)

  • Version 2.1.1.11 was released today and has one major new feature: Private Data Sync and many improvements including better ways to manage your Identities.
  • Private Data Sync is a new experimental feature that allows you to store data from your browser to a storage location of your choosing (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.) and use that to sync your Ghost Browser data across devices. This feature is described in detail in its own post here.
  • In addition, we’ve added the ability to search, sort and tag your Identities. This will make it much easier to quickly find and open a tab in the Identity of your choosing.
  • (Sidenote: If you are using Sessions more than Identities, you really should check out the difference between them here.)
  • Sorting of Identities can happen based on time created, frequency of usage or alphabetically by name.
  • If that’s not enough organization – and it probably will not be – you can use the search box that is now pinned to the top of your Identity Manager extension dropdown. Just start typing any string and your Identity list will be filtered in place.
  • And if you have searches that you need to run frequently, consider a tag instead. Tags you’ve added to your Identities will appear at the top of your Identity list, so with one click you can filter down to the Identities you most frequently need to find. Here’s a look at it!
  • In addition to Private Data Sync and Identities improvements, Version 2.1.1.11 also has the following improvements:
  • Fix for crashes on Mojave and later macOS versions when engaging the microphone in apps like Loom and Google Hangouts.
  • Fix for graphics loading on Google Earth
  • Fix for Messenger.com
  • Improvements to QuickTabs performance
  • Improvements to make the scale spoofing privacy feature persistent in your Sessions and Identities between restarts.
  • Improvements for Catalina compatibility.

New in Ghost Browser 2.1.1.7 (Apr 17, 2020)

  • We've released version 2.1.1.7 of Ghost Browser and have a couple of updates in particular that we would like to point out.
  • First, we've re-worked how we switch your browser from one Workspace to another to create a faster and smoother switching experience. You will now be - and feel - even more productive when switching from one Workspace to another.
  • The second major change is that starting with this version, we now have both a 32-bit and a 64-bit version available for Windows users. If you are currently on 32-bit and would like to switch, simply uninstall Ghost Browser, then re-install the 64-bit version from our download page. By default, you can uninstall the browser without losing your Workspaces, Session or Identity data. There is an option to remove this user data during the uninstall process, but as long as you leave it unchecked, you will be ok.
  • Version 2.1.1.7 also includes a new option to open a link into an Identity. You can do this by right clicking any link. This feature has always existed for Sessions but we now have it for Identities as well.

New in Ghost Browser 2.0.2.0 (Apr 25, 2018)

  • New Privacy Features:
  • In this release we have implemented 4 key anti-tracking mechanisms that you can toggle on or off. They are located in your browser settings under the privacy tab. (Menu–>Settings–>Advanced–>Privacy). You can always go to your settings and do a search on the setting name too.
  • Some of the settings turn off features that you may want turned on sometimes so be sure to review the privacy setting descriptions on our blog before changing any of these settings.
  • We recommend using the Browser Leaks web site to test your installation against these and other fingerprinting and tracking methods.
  • The new settings allow you to:
  • Spoof scaling of fonts to prevent font fingerprinting.
  • Fully prevent WebRTC leaks – not just IP address but also hiding your media device IDs.
  • Disable WebGL to prevent fingerprinting of your device.
  • Prevent HTML5 Canvas Fingerprinting by injecting noise into attempts to track you through this method.
  • Existing Features with Improved Privacy Protections:
  • We also launched Identities today. Identities are a new take on Sessions and are the answer for anyone wondering how to create isolated browser personas with confidence. They are a productivity feature that we’ve covered in a different post, but they also have privacy implications that are worth mentioning here.
  • Identities are like Sessions – they isolate your cookie jars in color-coded tabs and allow you to assign a different IP address to each set of colored tabs. But unlike Sessions, Identities have permanent cookie jars and settings so that even if you close all the tabs within an Identity, the cookies and proxy connection preferences you set for that Identity in Ghost Proxy Control will persist.
  • So any time you open a tab into an identity, you can be confident that the cookies that were there before are still there and you’ll connect through the same IP address.
  • This means you wont cross browsing sessions or accidentally access a site from the same account on two IP addresses or two accounts on the same IP address.

New in Ghost Browser 2.0.0.2 Beta (Dec 4, 2017)

  • Instituted a minor but very important change in Ghost Browser 2.0. Previously we allowed you to organize your TabLists into “Projects”. But we’ve changed “Projects” to “Tasks” in Ghost Browser 2.0. This is more than just a new name. It’s a new way of thinking.
  • Projects are big, heavy, long-haul things. They have many pieces and take a long time to complete. So the name was not really aligned with the things you do in your browser on a regular basis.
  • They are not aligned with the small steps you take every day to get the small productivity wins that add up to major wins over the course of a larger project.
  • So we now collect your TabLists into the tasks that make up your projects so you can focus on the entities where you can make a difference, step-by-step, in improving your productivity.
