  • Introducing the enhanced font classification feature now also for Server Fonts. Administrators can classify server fonts using the “Auto Classify Fonts” feature, apply manual classifications and create custom classifications in the “Server Settings” panel. In the “Custom Font Classification” section, click on the “+” symbol to add a new custom font classification and provide a tooltip if desired. The tooltip will be viewable to all users when they hover with the mouse over the classification in the summary panel of the Font Information dialog. Administrator and user Server Smart Sets can be used to group fonts by their classification. Locally classified fonts will maintain their classifications when importing them into the server
  • Also introducing Labels, Rating and Comments for Server Fonts. Administrators can assign a Label, Rating and/or Comment to Server Fonts which all users will be able to view and create server smart sets to group fonts based on their Label, Rating or Comment. These can also be displayed in the font list and shown in the small information panel located in the lower left corner of the main window
  • A new feature enables Administrators to send messages or e-mails to FontExplorer X Server users directly from the statistics panel. Select a user and right-click to access the “Send e-mail” and “Send message” options from the context menu. Users must be logged into the server in order to receive messages
  • Administrators can send a notification to users to reload the source list when new fonts or sets are made available. With the server, a server folder or a server set selected, right-click and select the menu item “Notify clients to reload sources”
  • Performance improvements when viewing non-downloaded server fonts in the preview
  • Changes in the Statistics panel include: additional columns to show the System Version, Client version, e-mail address of user. When exporting data from Statistics it is now possible to select the separator and the file encoding

  • Added PlugIns for Adobe Illustrator CS5, Adobe InDesign CS5 and Adobe PhotoShop CS5 (Intel Macs, OS 10.5 or higher).
  • Added the menu item "Log out" to the server context menu and to the "Server" menu.
  • Users with offline permission will now have access to their downloaded server fonts at all times. Offline mode will automatically be in effect whenever disconnected from the server – prior to login and following logout. The Work Offline and Work Online menu items have therefore been removed from the server context menu.

  • Offline mode would not go into effect after restarting FontExplorer X Pro when disconnected from the FontExplorer X Server.
  • Increasing/Decreasing the Preview font size via the toolbar icons did not produce the correct result.
  • When QuarkXPress 8 was installed, the option to clean the QuarkXPress font caches was occasionally disabled in the "Clean Application Font Caches" dialog.
  • It was possible to drag multiple items to the name field of a Set or Folder making the names in the source list unreadable. This is no longer possible. Multi-line Set names that occurred with an earlier version of FontExplorer X Pro will be reduced to one line following this software update. It is however, recommended to correct the names to avoid extremely long entries in the Information Area and Smart Set dialog. To do this:
  • Select the Set or Folder
  • Double click on the name or hit the Enter key
  • Assign a new meaningful name
  • Resolved with Mac OS X 10.6.3 – Postscript Type 1 fonts residing in a suitcase which contained more than 10 font styles would not always activate in FontExplorer X Pro and their preview showed "Not Available".
  • Mac OS X 10.6.x only: Right-clicking in the Summary tab of the Font Information dialog would produce a crash.
  • "Contained in" did not show all the Sets a font was contained in but instead only showed the Font Library. This effected both the small information area in the lower left of the main window and the Summary tab of the Font Information dialog.
  • Adobe InDesign CS3 & CS4 PlugIn: With certain documents InDesign would hang during font activation.
  • Various unrelated crashes.

New in FontExplorer X Pro 2.0.3 Build 3703 (Sep 29, 2009)

  • Resolved:
  • An issue where Unicodes in the kerning dialog were converted to decimal values.
  • An issue where some keystroke sequences were being incorrectly displayed in the character preview panel.
  • An issue were fonts have not been correctly activated following a restart when working with Network Home Directories.
  • An issue where Sets would sporadically disappear after restart when working in a Network Home Directory environment.
  • An issue where Fonts defined as permanently activated were occasionally deactivated after a restart.

  • FontExplorer X 2.0.3 is now compatible with Mac OS X 10.6.x (Snow Leopard).
  • Font info now shows the languages supported by the character set of a font.
  • Clean Application Font Caches now also cleans the font cache for QuarkXpress 8.

  • An issue where the Plugin Manager would sporadically show the incorrect path to a plugin, usually on multi-partition machines.
  • An issue where sets and smartsets were missing after upgrading from Linotype FontExplorer® X 1.2.3 to FontExplorer X Pro. The database will automatically repair itself when FontExplorer X Pro 2.0.2 is started.
  • An issue where activated fonts were not reactivated after restarting the system.
