Foldit Changelog

What's new in Foldit 20160811

Nov 9, 2016
  • Introduces a new tool for Foldit protein design. The Blueprint Panel displays the amino acid sequence and secondary structure of your protein. By default, each letter of the sequence is colored according to the φ and ψ torsions at that position in the structure, following the same ABEGO coloring scheme used by the Rama Map. Above the sequence, a secondary structure diagram reflects the sheet and helix assignment at each position. The Auto Structures button will detect sheets and helices, and make the appropriate secondary structure assignments.
  • The Blueprint panel is accompanied by the Building Blocks panel. Building blocks represent discrete patterns of protein backbone that can be applied to your protein structure. The building blocks provided here correspond to specific loops that are frequently observed in natural proteins (they were previously known as "Ideal Loops" in the Rama Map). All building blocks are meant to connect secondary structure elements directly, with a sheet or helix on either side. The appropriate use of a building block is dependent on this secondary structure "context." For example, a Helix-Sheet building block would make a good connection between a helix at position 20 and a sheet at position 23, but would not work well if the helix and sheet positions were reversed.
  • Click-and-drag a building block onto the Blueprint panel to apply the building block to your structure. Applied building blocks will remain outlined in the Blueprint panel. Applied building blocks will continue to exert torsional constraints wherever they are placed—these constraints behave like rubber bands for φ and ψ torsions, and will try to keep residues close to the original building block shape whenever you use Wiggle.
  • Click-and-drag a building block off of the Blueprint panel to remove the building block; this will also remove the associated torsional constraints. It is recommended that you leave building blocks and torsional constraints in place while you continue to fold a protein.
  • The Building Block panel includes two special building blocks next to the Context menu: one block is all-helix and another is all-sheet. These special building blocks can be placed on the Blueprint panel to shape residues into ideal helices and ideal sheets. They do not exert torsional constraints, and disappear immediately after they are applied.
  • The Blueprint Panel will be enabled in specific design puzzles. It can be accessed from the Actions menu in the Original Interface, or from the Main menu in the Selection Interface. Try it out now in Puzzle 1305!

  • General:
  • Added some debugging features to help track down difficult bugs.
  • Filters:
  • Added support for the HBond Network Filter in non-symmetric puzzles.

New in Foldit 20150330 (Mar 31, 2015)

  • General:
  • Enabling a filter will now run the filter immediately.
  • Updated the wording on the filters credit description.
  • The IRC Reconnect button should be more reliable.
  • You can now cycle to the previous or next residue information on the TAB menu with LEFT and RIGHT. (Note: currently only works in the Original Interface).

New in Foldit 20150311 (Mar 13, 2015)

  • There are two big changes in this update:
  • This first is that filters are now more configurable, and you can disable them individually, or run them on demand when they're disabled.
  • The second is that loading another player's solution as a guide will make you an evolver. The evolver category is specifically meant to be an unrestricted category that allows information sharing between group members. Using another player's solution as a guide falls perfectly under that definition of information sharing.
  • General:
  • Loading another player's solution as a guide will now make you an evolver.
  • The segment info box has been made taller.
  • When using the puzzle search box in the puzzle list, pressing enter will start the currently highlighted puzzle.
  • The chat 'Reconnect' button will now forcibly disconnect any other client from chat, and log back in with your nickname on the current client.
  • Filters:
  • You can now toggle individual filters on and off in the filter panel.
  • Added a button for each filter to 'Run' the filter once immediately instead of every update.
  • Added buttons for toggling all filters on/off, and running all filters immediately.
  • Added lua functions Get/SetFiltersDisabled. These get whether any filter is disabled and set all filters to on/off, respectively.
  • The Get/SetSlowFiltersDisabled functions are now deprecated. They now function identically to Get/SetFiltersDsiabled.
  • Some puzzles may now be configured to have optional filters (wont disable your score if you disable the filter) and non-realtime filters (must be 'run').
  • Bug Fixes:
  • The Focus on Density button should now focus on the center of the density cell.
  • Loading solutions which are a different size than the starting structure as a guide should no longer crash.

New in Foldit 20150211 (Feb 12, 2015)

  • General:
  • The move tool now displays at a static size. This should make it easier to grab when zoomed out, and prevent it from getting in the way when zoomed in.
  • Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed a bug where moving the mouse over the move tool while attempting to hide it would crash the client.
  • Fixed minor rendering problems in OS X.
  • Fragment Filter should be faster in some puzzles.

New in Foldit 20140707 (Sep 30, 2014)

  • General:
  • Saves from previous puzzles will be marked as such.
  • Fragment filter can now be disabled by 'disable slow filters'.
  • Added a separate option for controlling rank popups.
  • Bug Fixes:
  • The connection light should more reliably reflect the state of the client's connection to the server.
  • Wiggle power selector should be more visible with a black background.

New in Foldit 20140606 (Jun 12, 2014)

  • General:
  • Added an option to disable non-group chat.
  • A hotkey has been added for the Contact Map (Ctrl-C).
  • Intro Puzzle interface has been cleaned up slightly.
  • Added a tool for manually forming disulfides on certain puzzles.
  • Bug Fixes:
  • You should now be able to directly upload solutions from previous rounds.
  • Fixed a crash with deleting residues that are forming disulfides.
  • Remixing zero residues from scripts should no longer cause a crash.
  • Removed the annoying blue question mark hint from Contact Map puzzles.
  • Fixed a problem that was causing solutions to take more RAM than they should.

New in Foldit 1.0 Beta (Nov 26, 2013)

  • General:
  • Added a checkbox to hide Beginner Puzzles from the Puzzle select menu.
  • Show elapsed time as well as iterations on stop button in advanced GUI.
  • Selection Interface:
  • "Align Guide" hotkey has been changed from A to G in selection interface to match original interface.
  • Centroid:
  • Sidechain stub mode should now show stubs in centroid mode.
  • Filters:
  • ResidueIE wording on the bonus clarified. Visualizations should now be displayed correctly.
  • NEW FILTER Fragment Filter: This filter compares the shape of your backbone to shapes found in the PDB, and will penalize you if there aren't any close matches. This filter will be used for design.
  • New tool Remix:
  • This tool is designed to work with the new Fragment Filter to help you 'fix' bad backbone shapes. Running Remix on the bad regions highlighted by the filter will fix them, but you'll have to resolve the issues that come up as a result of the fix. This tool will be available on a puzzle-by-puzzle basis for now.
  • Bug Fixes:
  • The game should no longer lock up when you remove bands while dragging the move tool in the selection interface.

  • Fixed a crash during wiggle with locks and bands in centroid puzzles.

New in Foldit Beta (Dec 29, 2008)

  • Achievements: You can now unlock achievements for completing certain tasks in the game. They will show up on your user page. These currently include completing puzzle levels, making a certain number of moves, sharing solutions, and related actions. We're planning on adding more in the future!
  • Puzzle levels: The puzzle levels have been redone and reorganized.
  • Hotkeys: Some of the hotkeys have changed.
  • Fixes: This should fix the recent problem with saving and loading.
