New in FoldersSynchronizer 4.3.1 (Feb 16, 2017)

  • Fixed a issue (occurring in a very rare case) at reading the Primary MacAddress.
  • FoldersSynchronizer now properly reports the OS X Version on the Log Window and on the Log File.
  • Other minor fixes and improvement.

New in FoldersSynchronizer 4.3 (Nov 16, 2015)

  • You can now properly register the product entering your Serial Number and Email. Once registered you don’t longer need the RegistrationFile.txt used in the previous versions.
  • Added the “Swap Source and Destination folders” button to the Console panel. It works for Single BackUp tasks only.
  • Other minor fixes and improvement.

New in FoldersSynchronizer 4.2.1 (Jan 30, 2015)

  • On the Exclude panel you can now click on a row of the list and choose an hidden file or an hidden folder. This will let you exclude folders as e.g. /Home/Trash.

New in FoldersSynchronizer 4.2.0 (Dec 24, 2014)

  • What's new:
  • This version is compatible with OS X 10.9 or higher. Successfully tested on OS X 10.10 Yosemite.
  • Added the “File Versus Folder” option to the Conflict panel (Tab E). You can now set how FS should behave in case of replacing a whole folder by a most recent file with the same filename. You can set “Replace the folder” (default) or “Skip”, and “Ask the user for what to do at running time”. Previous versions of FS always skipped and left the folder untouched. We introduced this option since the new OSs changed some system files to folders and filePackages, so the user can easily manage these cases too. If you create a new FS document or a new session, the default settings are “Replace the folder” and “Don’t Ask”. Previous version documents get opened with the settings “Skip” and “Ask”. You can change these settings on the Conflict panel.
  • Fixed a rare bug at reading old version documents.
  • Other minor fixes and improvement.

New in FoldersSynchronizer 4.1.1 (Nov 11, 2013)

  • Successfully tested on OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
  • Email Log File. Since the Mail application by Apple doesn't let longer other applications read the account parameters to send emails, we have provided a panel in the Preferences:Log area to enter those parameters: From, To, SMTP, Port, Password, SSL. The default port is 25, so in case it matches your port you can even leave the Port field blank. We have successfully test this feature with a mac.com account, a gmail.com account and our softobe.com (generic) account on both OS X 10.8 and 10.9. On this panel you can quickly verify that FS can quite send emails using the parameters you have entered, simply clicking on the "Send Test Email" button. If the Log text is longer that 200,000 bytes, it will be included in the email as attachment and the email body will contain just the header of the Log text.
  • Fixed a rare bug which displayed the License panel at launch even if not necessary.
  • Other minor fixes and improvement.

New in FoldersSynchronizer 4.1.0 (Oct 8, 2011)

  • It runs on MacIntel machines only with OS X 10.7 or higher.
  • The version 4.1.0 for PPC & Intel machines, 32bit, for MacOS X 10.5 or higher, is available for download here.
  • As requested, we added the check-box "Skip Permissions Check" to the Settings panel. If marked FS will skip the permissions check during the Scanning Folders phase only. FS will always perform the permissions check during the copy phase, and in case it cannot copy/replace/delete a file/folder it will report an error to the Log, as always. Skipping the Permission Check during the scanning phase could improve the speed of the scanning task, but it is not recommended. In facts, you could discover the "permissions denied" cases only after the whole scanning folder has been performed, that is maybe after a long long time.
  • Improved the "Send log via email" feature (Preferences/Log panel).
  • This version doesn’t longer copy the main folder/disk custom icon (if any).
  • Fixed a bug at mounting volumes requiring a password.
  • Fixed a bug at un-mounting remote volumes.
  • Fixed a bug at auto-defining the volumes to mount.

New in FoldersSynchronizer 4.0.9 (Jul 5, 2011)

  • Successfully tested on OS X 10.7 (Lion).
  • Added the filter by Kind "Alias" to the "Set Filters" panel. So you can now skip (or copy only) all the alias files.
  • Added the "Show/Hide Toolbar" menu item to the Windows menu. On Lion in facts the toolbar button on the right-top corner of the window has been dismissed.
  • The Preview panel now reports the kind of task in process, e.g. Backup , Exact Backup, Sync, Exact Sync, Multiple Sessions.
  • Together with FoldersSynchronizer application, Softobe grants now a new application called H.FoldersSynchronizer (free for all the registered users). H.FoldersSynchronizer stands for "Hidden FoldersSynchronizer" (shortly H.FS). It is an application entirely equal to FoldersSynchronizer but running in background as an hidden application (usually defined as login item on the "System Preferences/Accounts/Login Items" list). It comes very useful to perform automatic sync and backup launched by the timers in a full transparent mode to the user. When running, the user cannot see the application, cannot see its icon on the Dock, cannot select it, cannot configure it, cannot manually start or stop a task and cannot quit it as usually. H.FoldersSynchronizer simply works using the latest settings you have defined with the FoldersSynchronizer application. And it works only if you defined a timer with the FoldersSynchronizer application. To know more and download the app, please visit this page.

New in FoldersSynchronizer 4.0.8 (Jun 1, 2011)

  • Fixed a minor bug introduced by the version 4.0.7 which prevented FS to send the log via email. The "Send email after sync" option on the Preferences:Log panel works properly now.
  • Fixed a bug which prevented FS to filter the files as "Copy Only".

New in FoldersSynchronizer 4.0.7 (May 3, 2011)

  • Added a new tab on the Preferences panel: Update.
  • You can now set FS to automatically check for updates at a given interval (every day, every week, every month...).
  • If a new version is available you can quickly download it from within FS itself with a simple click.
  • The automatic check doesn't affect the automatic "Launch, Sync and Quit" feature.

New in FoldersSynchronizer 4.0.6 (Apr 22, 2011)

  • Fixed a small bug at the interface of the Settings panel. Now, when choosing the menu item "Custom" from the popup menu "Create Sub Destination Folder with name" then canceling the dialog, FS properly restores the previous selected menu item.
  • The popup menu "Create Sub Destination Folder with name" on the Settings panel, now shows the parametric menu items with the current day and month names

New in FoldersSynchronizer 4.0.4 (Apr 7, 2011)

  • Added a new option to the Settings panel: “Create sub-folder within the destination folder” and make this new sub-folder the real destination folder. This way you can organize, for example, a daily backup (even fired by a timer) within a new destination sub-folder called e.g. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday... So once defined your main destination folder as /Volumes/ExternalDisk/DailyBackup, you will get your daily backup within different folder as /Volumes/ExternalDisk/DailyBackup/Monday, /Volumes/ExternalDisk/DailyBackup/Tuesday, /Volumes/ExternalDisk/DailyBackup/Wednesday
  • In case the sub-folder already exists, FS doesn't replace it with a new one. You can choose the name of the sub-folder from a pop-up menu, e.g. “As the source folder name”, “Long day of the week”, “Short day of the week”, “Long month name”, “Short month name”, the current date with several formats as e.g. “2011-04-06”, “2011-04-6-235859”, “Apr-07-2011”... You can also set a custom name by mixing fixed and parametric strings as “Copy of MusicFolder 12-31-2001 by John” where “Copy of” and “by John” are fixed strings, “MusicFolder” is the current source folder name and “12-31-2001” is the current date formatted as MM-dd-yyyy. In this case the custom format should be: ‘Copy of’ kSrc MM-ddd-yyyy ‘by John’, where the fixed strings go between single quotes. We strongly suggest to avoid to put a slash ( / ) or a colon ( : ) in the pathname.
  • To know any detail, please go to the Settings panel.
  • The Settings button on the Options Drawer has been moved to an upper position, since it is the most used panel after the Console panel.

New in FoldersSynchronizer 4.0.1 (Feb 16, 2011)

  • Fixed a minor bug which didn't let you save the "All Sessions" menu item selected.
  • Fixed a minor bug when auto-expanding the items on the Preview panel in case of "Multiple folders" or "All Sessions".
  • Improved the speed when deleting files.

New in FoldersSynchronizer 4.0 (Jan 31, 2011)

  • The "Scan Folders" phase is x2 faster.
  • The "Copy Files phase" is x4 faster.
  • FS now copies the Metadata, the BSD flags, the ACL attributes and ACL Extended attributes, on files, folders and symLinks.
  • Added the check-box "Expand Items" to the "Preferences/General" panel. If marked together with the check-box "Show Preview", FS, when displaying the Preview Item list before the copy phase, will expand all the folders in the three and show all the files it is going to copy/delete/replace.
  • Added the check-box "Move to the trash" to the "Settings" panel. If marked, FS will not delete the files (if needed) but it will move them to the trash. So you can later inspect and empty the trash in the Finder. The Preview panel will display a different icon when the mode is "delete" or "move to trash".
  • Added the "Filter by File Size" to the "Filters" panel. We suggest to apply this filter only on the "files" and not to the "folders" (that is, adding the filter Kind = File), otherwise at any folder scanned, FS would be forced to calculate the size of the whole folder, which results in a huge wasting time.
  • FS can now automatically mount Disk Image volumes (dmg) protected by password.
  • New interface with a new look and feel: new application icon, new console, new preview panel, new options drawer panel...
  • The Preview panel has been redrawn with a nicer item list reporting the icon of each file, folder and disk, nicer buttons and a new toolbar with the "Select next/prev copy-mode item row" buttons. With these latest buttons, you can select the next/prev item in list with a given copy-mode (e.g. "Copy Src to Dst" or "Copy Dst to Src", or "Delete"...).
  • The "Replace Files" panel (coming out in case of conflicts) shows now the file icons and the new buttons to inspect/reveal the files and to exchange the copy direction ("Replace Src to Dst" can be turned into "Replace Dst to Src").
  • When re-launching the application as "root", the About panel will not pop-up.
  • Added the menu Help to the Windows menu.
  • The Log window toolbar button has been redrawn.
  • The Log window title, in case of log saved to the disk, reports the icon and the log file name. Hold down the Command key and click to reveal the file in the Finder.
  • Command-clicking on an item of the Multiple list or the Exclude list displays a pop-up menu with the path-chain of the item, even if the item is on an unmounted disk.
  • FS doesn't longer copy the hidden "/.DS_Store" file.
  • FS doesn't longer copy the "/.fseventsd" folder.
  • Fixed a bug which prevented FS to copy Sym Links whose file name contains spaces.
  • Fixed a bug at resolving Sym Links.
  • Fixed a bug at detecting the readability of a file when running as root.
  • Fixed a very rare bug: "Resolve alias" and "Include locked items" options are on. FS resolves a destination alias whose target file is within a locked (destination) folder, then it replaces the target (destination) file properly. The destination folder remains locked.
  • Other improvements and minor bug fixes.

New in FoldersSynchronizer 3.6.4 (Jun 24, 2008)

  • FS now copies the ACL attributes and the Extended attributes too.

New in FoldersSynchronizer 3.6.3 (Mar 27, 2008)

  • As requested, we have added the "Sort Sessions" feature. Call the menu item "Sort Sessions" from the pop-up menu "Sessions" on the toolbar and you will be shown a list of the available Sessions. Drag the rows of the list to change the sort order of the Sessions. Additionally you can remove the sessions from the list.

New in FoldersSynchronizer 3.6.2 (Oct 5, 2007)

  • As requested, we have added the check-box "Treat file packages as folders" to the Settings panel. This feature is useful to sync/backup filePackages (as the new iPhoto8 library file package). With this option on, FS will inspect the contents of the filePackage (a filePakage is a folder containing several folders and files and looking like a file in the Finder) and will sync/backup only those files which really need. This results in a faster task because FS could not need to copy the whole filePackage (which could contain GB of data as several files). This feature doesn't affect the files with the extension "app" (the applications, which are file packages too). To inspect manually the contents of a filePackage in the Finder, click on the filePackage icon holding down the Control key the choose the menu item "Show Package Contents".
  • This version runs 20% faster than the previous one.
  • Fixed a bug when dismissing the "Replace File" dialog. This dialog comes out only in case the user has specified to "Ask the user" on the Conflicts panel and a conflict occured.
