Rough Draft Changelog

What's new in Rough Draft 1.7.9

Sep 15, 2016
  • Removed the OnlyRoughDraft.com rough export option.
  • Decided to shut down this draft sharing network to focus on improving and adding to the features that writers are using the most.
  • Fixed a crash happening when removing words using the option+delete keystroke and fixed the file format that drafts export to.

New in Rough Draft 1.7.8 (Sep 9, 2016)

  • We've made some small improvements to the typing engine, including a little fix to the cursor positioning.

New in Rough Draft 1.7.5 (Sep 4, 2016)

  • This update brings support for all accented characters input methods as requested by writers around the world.
  • Made further stability improvement to the sync between the Mac and iOS versions of Rough Draft. If the sync menu asks to "Turn on iCloud to get started" while it is already activated on your device, please quit and restart the app.

New in Rough Draft 1.7.4 (Aug 30, 2016)

  • Made some improvements to the sync between iOS and Mac.

New in Rough Draft 1.7.3 (Aug 21, 2016)

  • Solved the confusion around the All Drafts folder (we hope!) by now letting you "Move" and "Trash" drafts right from there. Just keep in mind every draft in the All Drafts folder also is at home in another folder.
  • Syncing and restoring your purchase is now much more dependable. We've got a few more improvements coming in the next version too!
  • Titles are no longer included in the word count.

New in Rough Draft 1.7.2 (Aug 13, 2016)

  • A small fix in addition to the big update in 1.7: this one fixes a bug that some users were having with clean exporting.
  • 1.7 Update Note: We've reworked and improved how writing works in Rough Draft, so you'll never have to think about the changes unless you know some of the bugs from the past.

New in Rough Draft 1.7.1 (Aug 11, 2016)

  • Reworked and improved how writing works in Rough Draft, so you'll never have to think about the changes unless you know some of the bugs from the past.

New in Rough Draft 1.7.0 (Aug 10, 2016)

  • We've reworked and improved how writing works in Rough Draft, so you'll never have to think about the changes unless you know some of the bugs from the past.
  • Also, if you've already purchased Rough Draft on iOS it will be unlocked on Mac. Just make sure that both are updated to the latest versions and both devices are connected to the same iCloud account.

New in Rough Draft 1.6.1 (Jul 7, 2016)

  • Solves an issue for users who were migrating from Rough Draft v1.3 or before to 1.6, along with a few stability improvements.

New in Rough Draft 1.6 (Jul 5, 2016)

  • Now all first-time users of Rough Draft can get one trial clean export, so when trying Rough Draft they can write in comfort of knowing they can export their first rough draft with no strikethroughs for free.
  • Least importantly, we've added a new simplified logo.
  • More importantly, new sidenotes allow you to jot down ideas for your current draft as they come to you.
  • Most importantly, we've added in iCloud syncing from Mac-to-Mac free, and if you've already purchased "Clean Exports" it will be unlocked too.
  • Also importantly, placeholders have been simplified and are now added directly as text, that way you can add them in the middle of a paragraph. For example, you could write about how [TK: insert actual stat]% of published writers use TK placeholders in their drafts.
  • Along with many bug fixes and improvements.

New in Rough Draft 1.5.3 (Mar 24, 2016)

  • Thanks to being featured we got a lot of great feedback and were able to find new bugs to fix. With this update we've focused on stability and righting the issue that a small, but very important, portion of users were facing with a left-alignment.

New in Rough Draft 1.5.2 (Mar 5, 2016)

  • Fixing an issue that new users were having when publishing to OnlyRoughDrafts.com

New in Rough Draft 1.5.1 (Feb 27, 2016)

  • Improved stability, performance, & animations
  • An improved authentication flow for OnlyRoughDrafts.com
  • Improvements in the in-app purchase flow
  • Simplifed the logo a little

New in Rough Draft 1.5 (Feb 19, 2016)

  • We've added in:
  • publishing to our small rough drafts community onlyRoughDrafts, where you can publish with all your strikethroughs and it's clear that what you wrote is "just a rough draft."
  • a new theme for people with dyslexia. We had a writer mention that her doctor's father recommended yellow backgrounds with navy blue text for comprehension. So we read up on it and added that in too.

New in Rough Draft 1.4.2 (Feb 4, 2016)

  • Stability improvements to Medium publishing!

New in Rough Draft 1.4.1 (Jan 22, 2016)

  • Fixed the restore purchases flow and added some slight stability improvements. Hope you enjoy your writing!

New in Rough Draft 1.4 (Jan 18, 2016)

  • We’ve updated our name and our logo to reflect a few core values:
  • Ernest Hemingway and our favorite quote, “The first draft of anything is s***.” We want to remind you whenever you open Rough Draft that it’s okay to write s***ty rough.
  • Enjoying writing and remembering it can be relaxed & fun. We hope our new logo will help you remember why you write.
  • Going beyond a first draft. We’re putting the polish on some exciting details that’ll help you go beyond just the “first” draft while keeping your focus on crafting an early rough draft.
  • More Importantly… Easy Medium Exporting!
  • Finishing your draft on Medium just got easier! With a single click, you can now move your draft from Rough Draft directly to Medium.

New in Rough Draft 1.3.1 (Dec 21, 2015)

  • First Draft no longer slows down once you hit a few thousand words.
  • For some users the app was crashing on open. It should now be ready and opening every time.
  • When you'd delete an orange word and keep going to the previous word First Draft used to crash.
  • And many more small fixes and tightening things up, so your flow won't be interrupted.

New in Rough Draft 1.3 (Dec 7, 2015)

  • Copying the rough version of your text with strikeouts is now free! Try out First Draft without worrying about not being able to export your writing. If you do want to continue using First Draft, it's probably still best to still unlock exporting and the automatic removal of strikeouts.
  • You can now adjust the transparency of the words that you've already written. Make committed words completely transparent or partially transluscent. This can help you keep stay focused on where you're going.
  • Pressing the space bar is now a little more relaxing, because we've added a half second window to edit a word now. After pressing space a word fades from orange to black, during which time you can fix a typo. We like thinking of it as the word "cooling off."
  • You can now email the rough strikeout filled version of your first draft. This helps your friend, reader, or audience remember it's an early version and keep the feedback off of commas, spelling, grammar, etc. and on the big idea.
  • General Updates & Fixes:
  • More International Accented Keyboards: Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, Spanish-ISO (Sorry for our mistake not realising Spanish-ISO was the main Spanish keyboard used!)
  • A crash has been happening at launch for some users. This should fix it.

New in Rough Draft 1.2 (Nov 25, 2015)

  • First Draft is going international with support for accented characters like: é, î, ü, & more! (Apologies for the wait! We're a team of Americans and Japanese, so we don’t have much experience with accented characters. Please let us know if we’re getting it right!)
  • Also new are:
  • You can quickly right click to export a single draft from the main folder screen, or right click on a folder and export all the drafts together in one file.
  • Small fixes to the deleting characteristics and some of First Draft's crashes.

New in Rough Draft 1.1.1 (Nov 11, 2015)

  • Fixes to The In-App Purchase Flow: v1.1 mistakenly had exporting unlocked globally. This has been fixed and unlocking exporting now requires a one-time in-app purchase again. For anyone who had previously made the in-app purchase, exporting will remain unlocked. For anyone who hasn't made the in-app purchase, it will be necessary to do so to unlock exporting. We sincerely apologize for any confusion that this may have caused.
