FinderPop Changelog

What's new in FinderPop 2.5.7

Sep 29, 2014
  • Allow FP to work with alias files produced by the Yosemite Finder.
  • In FinderPop's "Move/Copy/Alias" dialog, you can control-click the
  • "Alias" button and FinderPop will create symlinks instead of aliases.
  • Fix minor bug in the "Move To..." and "Copy To..." scripts introduced last time (in the 'FinderPop Extras' folder.)
  • Add new "Alias To..." and "Symlink To..." scripts.
  • Fix a buffer overrun bug which could cause a crash in rare instances.

New in FinderPop 2.5.6 (Jul 21, 2014)

  • Fix minor bug in finderpop-daemon.
  • Add 'Move To...' and 'Copy To...' scripts to the 'FinderPop Extras' folder. These will only be visible in FP menus if you have a Finder selection and allow you to choose a destination folder into which to move or copy the items. NB: These use low-level Unix 'mv' and 'cp' commands to do the heavy lifting, and any similarly-named existing items in the destination folder WILL BE OVERWRITTEN. So be sure you know what you're doing before using these!
  • Added bonus: option-clicking the "Choose" button in the "Choose Folder" dialog will get the Finder to display the destination folder after the items have been moved or copied.

  • 2.4.9 has code signing to ease installation when GateKeeper is active
  • Fixes bugs when running shell scripts from within FinderPop
  • Numerous other bugfixes and a couple of new features - see this forum post and the Release Notes and the Hints & Tips sections of the Book Of Words.
  • Regular Beta versions available in the FinderPop forums

New in FinderPop 2.4.6 (Oct 5, 2012)

  • Improves MacOS 10.8 Mountain Lion compatibility
  • Doesn't crash horribly like 2.4.5 - apologies to all affected * blush *
  • Also adds support for the 10.6/10.7 Finder's Go menu - add an empty folder to your FinderPop Items folder
  • called Finder Recent---R and the Recent folders from the Finder's Go menu will appear there.
  • Numerous other bugfixes and a couple of new features - see the Release Notes and the Hints & Tips sections of the Book Of Words.

New in FinderPop 2.4.4 (Jul 29, 2012)

  • Minor update:
  • If FinderPop's "Use Finder Label Colors" is enabled on 10.6/7/8, we now treat unlabelled items in FP menus in the Finder as if they had an invisible label, so the FinderPop menu item texts all start at the same horizontal offset.
  • If you prefer the old way of showing labels, use defaults write com.finderpop.finderpop cocoaLabelSpaces false
  • I will eventually get around to revamping the way FinderPop does menu labels in Cocoa, it's definitely a bodge at the moment.

New in FinderPop 2.3.0 (May 24, 2010)

  • Fix German localization, thanks Hajo
  • Update Danish and Japanese localizations, thanks Mogens & Osamu
  • New Danish Manual Translation, thanks Mogens
  • Fix invocation of FinderPop shell scripts in FinderPopExtras folder
  • FinderPop now appears properly-named in the Processes submenu

New in FinderPop 2.2.5 Beta (Mar 27, 2010)

  • Fix a crash with PathFinder.
  • Control-free popups in 10.6 Finder
  • No longer Snow-Leopard-specific
  • Fix problem that showed up with some QuickKeys macros
  • Play nicer with FolderGlance
  • Adds a goofy scripting facility to run scripts or programs before generating the FinderPop menu, allowing these scripts to add or remove items from the FinderPop Items folder (or indeed any folder.) Basically any file whose name ends in ".fpsh" in the FinderPop Items folder (or one level below it, ie in a folder inside the FinderPop Items folder) will be run before and after FinderPop runs; the Finder selection is passed to the script, the script can examine the selection and add or remove items to the FinderPop Items folder which will then appear (or not) in the FinderPop popup menus. I'll explain this in more detail in another post as it's not likely to be useful to any but a handful of people... but it could be used to reintroduce a measure of contextuality. I was looking at supporting old CM plugins but there are numerous problems with 64/32bitness.)

New in FinderPop 2.2.4 Beta 7 (Feb 3, 2010)

  • Very minor tweaks to coexist peacefully with FolderGlance, though quite why you'd want to run both FG and FP is beyond me.
  • Fixed a problem with QuickKeys macros involving the menubar (FP would sometimes think that a piece of unused menubar was being clicked and would erroneously pop up the FinderPop menu.)

New in FinderPop 2.2.4 Beta 6 (Jan 15, 2010)

  • Just a couple of minor tweaks before Christmas - make patching the Finder more robust, handle selecting multiple Finder items better, fix incorrect display of menubar-only-items (those whose name ends in '---m'.)

New in FinderPop 2.2 (Feb 12, 2009)

  • Online FinderPop Support Forum available: http://www.fnarr.net/fp
  • Beta versions have been made available there at the rate of one every 3 weeks since the 2.1.2 release, so if you want the latest-n-greatest, you know where to go!
  • Compatibility with all Finders from 10.4.0 .. 10.5.6.
  • If you select a Unix shell script file (files whose name ends in '.sh') from a FinderPop menu, the script will be executed. Any Finder selection is passed to the script as standard text arguments. Likewise, if you select a compiled AppleScript file (i.e., a file ending in '.scpt'), FinderPop will execute the script.
  • Added a bunch of useful utilities in the FinderPopExtras folder a bit like the old OS 9 FinderPoplets folder.
  • Support for Finder Label colours! You can also sort by Finder Labels in the Appearance tab.
  • Initial attempt at per-directory customisation: the .fp_info file allows you to set per-directory sorting and text styles which overrides the settings in the FinderPop preference pane..
  • Make Processes menu sorting-by-name optional. Also, for quick access to the FinderPop Preference Pane, FinderPop will add an alias to itself to the end of the Process menu.
  • Add new checkbox for periodic checks for FinderPop updates (in the prefPane's "Etc" tab.)
  • Add new button to the "Move/Copy/Alias" dialog allowing you to choose a different destination folder. You can also create a new destination folder.
  • More flexible positioning of FP menu items:
  • Any item ending in '-!!n' will have a submenu listing all installed Preference Panes hanging off it.
  • Any item ending in '-!!a' will have a submenu with all the apps under the Applications folder (ie, including those in the Utilties folder.)
  • Any item ending in '-!!d' will have a Desktop submenu just like the Desktop submenu you get if you check the Add Desktop Submenu in the FinderPop prefPane.
  • Similarly, any item ending in '-!!p' will have a Processes menu hanging off it.
  • FinderPop now maintains a list of the items you've chosen from a FinderPop submenu (rather than just the most recent.)
  • The "FinderPop Items" folder can now be an alias to a folder.
  • New German localisation.
  • Plus quite a few more tweaks and improvements, see the manual for details.

  • fixes a problem with certain Cocoa applications.
  • new patching mechanism using Unsanity's APELite
  • now with Swedish, Japanese, French and (partial) Danish.

New in FinderPop 2.1 (Feb 28, 2008)

  • Leopard (10.5) compatibility.
  • No longer compatible with 10.3.
  • Numerous fixes and enhancements
  • Quicklook of any FP menu item (press 'q'), Grab-n-Drag (press 'g')
  • Finder Control-free-popup is now Click-and-Hold-until-mouse-changes
  • Remember last N items chosen (up to 5)
  • FinderPop support forum: http://www.fnarr.net/fp
  • Unfortunately method of adding aliases to FinderPop Items folder is still the same 11 years later
