- File Buddy would report a -1426 error (operation not supported) when attempting to some non-Mac volumes, such as thumb drives. This was the result of Mac OS X not implementing support for those volume formats for the function File Buddy uses to search volumes. File Buddy now uses a different mechanism to search those volumes.
- The Group Info window was not expanding to the correct size in Mac OS X 10.9. Fixed.
- File Buddy would treat Regexp searches as normal searches if the only special character in the search string was a backlash. Fixed.
New in File Buddy 10.0.2 (May 3, 2014)
- A bug in the algorithm used to generate File Buddy 10 serial numbers could, in rare cases, produce an invalid serial number. Typically one or two characters would be incorrect. The problem has been addressed on the generation side for some time now. This release of File Buddy updates its testing of serial numbers to match. If you are updating to this release and it doesn't accept your old serial number, please contact us to requeest a new serial number, and accept our apologies for any inconvenience.
- You can now enter your registration information (name and serial number) in a single step when registering. Simply select the name and serial number in the blue box at the top of the e-mail you received from Kagi containing your information, copy them, and paste them into either field in File Buddy's serial number dialog. File Buddy will separate them and enter them into the appropriate fields.
New in File Buddy 10.0.1 (May 3, 2014)
- In Mac OS X 10.9: A system function call designed to report which icon data is available for an icon was reporting bogus results even though it works correctly in earlier versions of Mac OS X. As a result Icon Family Viewers would display icons in sizes for which there wasn’t actually data available in Mavericks. Workaround implemented.
- In Mac OS X 10.8 and 10.9: Clicking the segmented selector in the Find window to change the scope of the search would cause the bottom of the window to collapse too far. Fixed.
- In Mac OS X 10.8 and 10.9: File Buddy should now be recognized as being from an “identified developer” and allow it to run if you have your Security & Privacy settings configured to allow apps downloaded from the Mac App Store and identified developers.
- In Mac OS X 10.6: The Mac OS X function File Buddy uses to plot icons would not plot icons in the List window if the icon’s family didn’t contain any sizes smaller that 256x256. The function works correctly in Mac OS X 10.7 and later. Implemented a workaround so these icons now draw in Mac OS X 10.6.
- Under some circumstances lists of searchable volumes (such as in the Find window) included a volume whose name appeared to consist of random characters and couldn’t be searched. This volume is no longer listed.
- In the List window, clicking the disclosure triangle in the open position had no effect if the folder was empty. Fixed.
New in File Buddy 10.0.0 (May 3, 2014)
- Creating a custom icon with the Info window could result in an icon without the expected sizes, or no icon data at all if the icon sizes specified in the Icons preferences panel were changed after pasting an icon source into Info window’s icon well but before the Save button clicked to create the icon. Fixed for this release.
- Added Show Toolbar and Hide Toolbar commands to the Window menu, prompted by the removal of the toolbar show/hide button in Mavericks. Without that button there was no convenient way to toggle toolbar visibility in Mavericks.
- Added a keyboard shortcut (⌘ + Shift + Option + I) for the View Icon Family command, which is available in Info and List window pop-up menus.
- File sizes were being rounded incorrectly for display purposes in some cases. For example, File Buddy might report a file’ as “1.78 GB” instead of “1.77 GB.” Fixed in this release. (The code that creates text strings for file sizes uses a function provided by Mac OS X, and judging from the code it would appear that in earlier releases of Mac OS X File Buddy was compensating for a bug in that Mac OS X code which has been fixed.)
- Attempting to type a serial number into the registration dialog would fail because File Buddy wouldn't allow the last character to be entered. Since almost everyone pastes the serial number into the field only a couple of users were affected by it, but it's fixed in this release.
- A few other minor issues addressed.
New in File Buddy 10.0 Beta 1 (Jun 24, 2012)
- File Buddy commands for Finder contextual menus:
- No plug-in to install. File Buddy’s additions to Finder contextual menus are always available and can be managed using the Keyboard pane in System Preferences, making it trivial to give your favorite commands keyboard shortcuts and remove commands you don’t use.
- Several new commands added and several lesser used commands removed.
- Info Window Enhancements:
- Full support added for 256x256 and 512x512 icons.
- Better quality icons when creating custom icons from pictures.
- List Window Enhancements:
- Several updates to the various column-specific contextual menus.
- Improved icon creation and viewing:
- All new code to create custom icons from image files and image data on the Clipboard produces better icons in sizes from 16x16 to the 512x512-pixel icons introduced in Snow Leopard.
New in File Buddy 9.0.2 (Aug 22, 2009)
- Find history strings were missing for no creation, modified, or accessed date. Fixed.
- File Buddy’s contextual menu was not adding any items when using the German localization. Fixed.
- The Replace Regexp option in the Rename window had a bug that could cause a crash or incorrect results in some cases. Fixed.
- The code that validates serial numbers had a bug in it that would prevent it from accepting serial numbers if the name contained non-ASCII characters. Fixed.
- When drawing a badged icon (icons for aliases and locked items) in the List window, the icon would be corrupted or File Buddy would crash in Leopard. After much investigation, it seems to be a bug in Leopard. Workaround found.
- When setting labels using the Label contextual menu in the List window, setting the label to the first label (the red label) had no effect. Fixed.
New in File Buddy 9.0.1 (Jul 15, 2009)
- All File Buddy windows now let you save their current settings as named configurations which can be reloaded on demand later. The exact meaning of a configuration varies somewhat from window to window, but generally a configuration refers to the current window settings. You can save a default configuration for each window as well as named configurations you can apply at any time.
- Cleaning features which could previously only be used on entire volumes can now be used on individual folders.
- File Buddy occasionally displays a message prior to carrying out an action you’ve initiated to confirm you really File Buddy want to do the requested action. While most people appreciate this extra measure, some users don’t want these warnings, so many of them in File Buddy 9 now have an option to skip them in the future.
