What's new in DockShelf 1.5.1

Nov 2, 2017
  • Dock colors have been fixed in 10.13 High Sierra.

New in DockShelf 1.5 (Sep 20, 2016)

  • IMPORTANT: DockShelf now requires OS 10.9 or higher and OS 10.10 or higher for Desktop docks (which were effectively broken on 10.9 anyways but went unnoticed in earlier updates).
  • NEW: URL items can show an option favorite icon (see the preferences).
  • NEW: Paste files, links, text and images into stacks or folders.
  • NEW: "Sort by" options in folder browsers are now in the correct order (duh!), size ordering is more accurate and there's a new option to sort by date added.
  • NEW: Text, images and links can be dropped and saved into folder items and folder docks.
  • NEW: Small edit dock button which can be used instead of contextual-clicking.
  • NEW: Add folder and desktop item in the dock info window which adds a new empty folder or desktop.
  • NEW: "Dragging out shares" option for docks which drops the item on the destination then removes the item from the dock. This option is used for docks that are temporary storage during drag and drop.
  • NEW: More built in dock images (see the dock info window).
  • IMPROVED: Drag and drop using hiding is now much improved and easier to use but requires you grant DockShelf access in the System Preferences (Security & Privacy > Privacy add enable DockShelf in the list).
  • IMPROVED: Animations have finally been optimized so DockShelf feels smoother and snappier now (make sure animations aren't disabled in the preferences to check it out).
  • IMPROVED: Stacks have QuickLook previews now.
  • IMPROVED: Stacks can set top item so it's easier to identity the stack in the dock.
  • IMPROVED: It's easier to not drag items out of the dock by accident.
  • IMPROVED: Cleaned up the preferences window.
  • IMPROVED: Large size tag is 16pt instead of 14pt like before.
  • IMPROVED: Note items are all opened in a single window with a system standard style toolbar.
  • FIXED: Bugs in the "edit smart item" window when selecting custom locations.
  • FIXED: Bug when renaming folder items.
  • FIXED: Bug with DockShelf not appearing after logging in even though it was set to do so.

New in DockShelf 1.4.1 (Dec 9, 2015)

  • Small update to fix a bug in 1.4 that caused desktop docks to close shortly after being opened. This is an important update for all users.

New in DockShelf 1.4 (Oct 31, 2015)

  • Comes packaged with “Desktops” which allows you to make new “Desktop Docks” and viewer folder items as Desktops.

New in DockShelf 1.3.1 (Oct 19, 2015)

  • IMPORTANT: Fixed crash when changing workspaces.
  • IMPORTANT: Fixed crash with process docks and applications terminating.
  • NEW: Legacy theme to resemble pre-1.3 versions.
  • NEW: "Disable dock animations" preference which removes animations for expanding/collapsing tabs and item magnification.
  • NEW: URI's for changing workspaces (dockshelf://workspace?name=???).
  • FIXED: Browse as menu for folders got accidentally removed but has returned now.
  • FIXED: Tag borders are drawn correctly now.
  • FIXED: Dock themes drawing bug.
  • FIXED: Bug in AppStore/sandbox version which would attempt to mount volumes that were ejected.
  • IMPROVED: Options to show URL's as Finder icon (like pre-1.3) in the preferences.

New in DockShelf 1.3 (May 1, 2015)

  • NEW: Dock themes can contain an image (set in dock info window) which is shown when docks are tabs.
  • NEW: Persistent name tags (enable in preferences). These are useful for docks that contain folders or documents you would need to "scrub" the mouse over to otherwise identify.
  • NEW: It's now easier to choose dock colors from the dock info window via a popup menu.
  • NEW: Some new dock themes show a color badge (when tab) instead of changing the entire tab color.
  • NEW: Better indicator for grouping docks.
  • NEW: Holding down the option key (choose modifier key in preferences) disables hiding so you can drag items to docks while hiding is enabled.
  • NEW: "Hiding Opacity" preference which lets you set a transparency value for when docks are hidden (moving the mouse over them makes them fully visible).
  • NEW: Tag size preference.
  • CHANGED: Themes are drawn with code and updated for Yosemite. The old HTML based system was removed due to complications not worth correcting.
  • CHANGED: Significant performance improvements when idle in background. Older versions could use up to 5% CPU just moving the mouse around even when DockShelf was hidden.
  • CHANGED: Popup windows are replaced with the standard OS X version and include a style option in the preferences (light, dark or system default).
  • CHANGED: The "hide in ..." option now enables hiding so moving the mouse to the screen edge can still be used to show docks.
  • CHANGED: Opening the contextual menu doesn't force a tab to open.
  • CHANGED: Menu items, preferences and other windows contain contextual help tags.
  • CHANGED: Retina support.

New in DockShelf 1.1.1 (May 14, 2012)

  • Minor bug update that draws dock titles of larger sizes properly when they are aligned on the bottom of the screen. Very annoying if you’re using larger font sizes on your docks and want them on the bottom edge of your screen.

New in DockShelf 1.1 (May 3, 2012)

  • New browsing features including a popup window for browsing folders (like in the OS X Dock), Smart folders which use Spotlight and Stacks for creating custom groups of browsable files.
  • Some other new items have been added also including trash cans, separators and the Finder. Note that all the new items in 1.1 can be added from the new Items tab in the dock info window (right-click on the dock to open).
  • 2 new “special” docks have been added also: process docks and device docks. These docks are static (can not be altered) and show all open applications and mounted devices, respectively.
  • A small feature that allows you to add AppleScripts to applications which can be invoked from the contextual menu when you right-click on an application item (see the manual for instructions).

New in DockShelf 1.0.1 (Feb 1, 2012)

  • Docks now appear fixed when changing desktop spaces in Lion.
  • Fixed - after shutting down the Mac DockShelf would reset the docks
