New in Informant 1.00.50371 (Nov 20, 2017)

  • NEW & IMPROVED:
  • NEW: Basic printing support that mirrors what we offer on Informant for iOS.
  • NEW: Added support for Franklin-Style priorities! This means you can now use ABC/123 prioritization on Informant for macOS. They sync as expected from Informant for iOS. You can right-click on a task to quickly assign a priority from A-C and from 1-10. If you need to go further than that, you can go into the full editor for the task. The Franklin-Style priorities show up in a task row underneath the title (similar to iOS)
  • NEW: Meeting Invites: You can now send events to meeting attendees as you can on iOS (for local and Informant Sync events). Simply set up an email account in the Informant Account settings to handle the sending of meeting invites.
  • NEW: You can now re-order checklist items. If you are using Informant Sync between your Mac and iOS devices, the order of checklist items is kept in sync between all your devices.
  • NEW: Added URL field to tasks
  • NEW: You can now export a calendar as an ICS file
  • NEW: You now have the option to show or hide declined events (for non-Apple events)
  • IMPROVED: In search results, completed tasks are now reverse sorted by completed date instead of due date
  • IMPROVED: Visual improvements with the Subscribe Calendar sheet
  • IMPROVED: When you add a new checklist item, it will remain as the bottom checklist item rather than getting reordered (like previous versions of Informant for macOS did)
  • IMPROVED: No longer show the Completed Date field in the editor unless you are editing a completed task
  • IMPROVED: Minor UI improvements throughout the app
  • NEW: Templates have been converted to Triggers! If you are an I5 customer on iOS, then you are probably familiar with Triggers, but for those who aren't, here's a brief overview to a fairly significant change:
  • Unlike a Template, a single Trigger can be defined to apply to an event, task or both
  • With Templates, when you applied them to an event or task, they would wipe out all fields with the data contained in the Template. Triggers are far more surgical. Triggers only affect the fields you explicitly specify when you apply them to an event or task.
  • You can set keywords on triggers so that as you type into the Title field of a new event or task, it will automatically offer to apply that trigger.
  • You can now sync your triggers between Informant 5 and macOS!
  • Your existing templates will be converted to Triggers on the first launch of this update.
  • FIXES:
  • When you drag a checklist item to a new parent task (that doesn't have any child tasks at all), then the checklist item is preserved as a checklist item (in past builds, it would get converted to a subtask)
  • Changing the color or time zone of an event calendar didn't immediately refresh the current calendar view
  • Resolved a few issues with repeating events
  • Fixed various minor text / phrasing issues in Informant notifications
  • Multiple fixes and improvements to handling ICS files (both importing and exporting)
  • Performance & stability improvements throughout the app
  • Improved compatibility with macOS High Sierra
  • Updated localizations

  • Using an emoji as part of your search string should now work properly
  • In alarms on all day events, the description of the start time was a day off
  • Fixed issue where Informant Helper may not properly launch automatically
  • Snooze and Complete options weren't working from Informant alarms/notifications (regression in M8.5)
  • Location suggestions are now properly updated as you keep typing your location (in M8.5, the list would grow with duplicate suggestions)

  • Overdue tasks in Stacked Week View now respect the Overdue color
  • Project Editor was not selecting the sync account properly when editing a Reminder list
  • The section header show/hide buttons didn't work in Notes View
  • Informant would hang if you attempt to select a multi-day event in the past that spanned multiple weeks while you were in Month View
  • Sometimes Month View wouldn't update properly if you dragged an item from one of the top visible rows to the bottom visible row
  • A couple features wouldn't work as expected while Informant was in Trial Mode
  • Smart filters with the following rule pattern wouldn't work correctly: Tasks Completed within the last X days. NOTE: If you have made a rule like this on Informant for macOS, you will need to edit the rule and re-save it for it to get fixed.
  • When editing an all day event and changing it to a timed event, the time zone picker now properly selects "Local"
  • Fixed some layout issues with the custom recurrence rule editor in German
  • Don't show the "Repeat from Completion Date" option when editing an Apple Reminder
  • Removing a project from Informant Sync should make the project be local instead of completely removing it
  • Several internal improvements to how Apple Reminders and Events are handled / updated
  • Fixed a couple situations where the date previewed in the Quick Entry window wasn't the actual date assigned to a new calendar item
  • If your Default Task Project was set to a Google Task project, the setting was ignored and it would always default to Google's default project
  • If you had an All Day event on a DST transition and you dragged it to a new date, it would convert that event to a 2 day event
  • Updated Localizations
  • Several internal performance and stability improvements
  • Minor visual improvements

New in Informant 0.99.50298 (Apr 7, 2017)

  • NEW & IMPROVED:
  • You can now re-order sections in the Focus view (this is done in Focus View Preferences)
  • The Focus Menu Bar item is now a "tear off" menu. You can open it from the menu bar, then drag it to wherever you want.
  • You can now drag/drop between the Focus Menu Bar item and the main app
  • You can now drag / drop notes to items on the sidebar (e.g. to a project, tag, mini-month, etc)
  • Month and Stacked Week view now support multi-select drag and drop
  • You can now select a mix of items in a calendar view (events, tasks, notes) and delete them all at once
  • You can now right-click on a backup (in Advanced Preferences) to show that backup in the Finder
  • We have standardized on the term "Projects" for both notes and tasks. Before, we would inconsistently use the term "Notebooks" or "Projects" when you were on the Notes view.
  • Projects can now be designated as allowing "Notes Only", "Tasks Only" or both. Certain sync accounts only support specific data types, so in those cases, the editor locks you into a single choice. Likewise, Toodledo only supports mixed projects, so the editor restricts Toodledo projects to "both". Informant Sync supports projects being in any of those 3 states. When a project is "Tasks Only", it will not show at all in the Notes view (and vice-versa).
  • Time zones now appear in the sidebar for calendars locked to a specific time zone
  • Visual Improvements to the time zone picker when editing a calendar
  • The event editor now supports specifying time zones when creating/editing an event
  • Month and Stacked Week view now show the time zone on an event when that event is on a calendar locked to a specific time zone
  • Informant no longer prompts you for span when deleting an exception
  • When grouping by project, the task view now sorts tasks in a sequential project according to the user-specified sequence
  • Making a child task (via command-return) now sets the priority of the child to match the parent
  • Completed checklist items always show regardless of your "show completed tasks" setting. This is consistent behavior with Informant on iOS.
  • Updated to a new process for logging into Google and Toodledo Sync Accounts. Informant for macOS is now ready for upcoming authentication changes that Google is making in April. NOTE: While Informant should migrate your existing logins, there's a chance that after updating, you might need to log back into your Google or Toodledo Sync Accounts.
  • Various UI improvements throughout
  • New & Improved logic for automatic "Next Action" handling on sequential projects:
  • Parent / child tasks are treated more like "sub-projects" now. If you set a parent task to "Active", then the first subtask will become the Next Action.
  • This means you can now have multiple next actions within a given project (the first task in the project along with the first subtask of each "active" parent task)
  • During automatic Next Action promotion, if the first task in a project is a parent task, it will now set that parent task to Active and the first subtask will become the Next Action
  • Next action promotion now stops if it hits a task that is in the Hold or Planning status
  • FIXED:
  • Fixed annoying "text wiggle" when you inline-edited the title of an event/task
  • The calendar filter for the Today sidebar would get lost when quitting Informant
  • Sometimes the editor would not appear when double-clicking an item in Stacked Week view
  • Fixed issue where the sidebar mini months would jump to a seemingly random month when you first launched the app
  • Certain views didn’t update themselves properly if they were left open across midnight
  • When you duplicate a parent task, it now also properly duplicates all subtasks (instead of just the parent)
  • Fixed several issues that could occur when duplicating a project that contained tasks with subtasks
  • Pasting a task into a different project, context or tag now works as expected
  • Don’t allow adding a subtask to a completed parent task
  • Don’t allow command-return to make a subtask on a checklist item
  • Sorting by title in Notes view was broken (you would get a blank screen)
  • Sometimes when editing a task with a custom recurrence, the custom recurrence editor didn't visually set itself up properly
  • Worked around a macOS bug that would sometimes result in a crash if you tried to undo some typing
  • Improvements to the handling of icons on Apple Calendar events
  • The "dim future tasks" option now works properly in Focus View
  • Long titles weren’t always properly displayed in search result rows
  • The tab title didn’t update if you renamed a project while that project was open
  • Certain contextual menu items were incorrectly enabled for checklist items
  • Renaming a smart filter wouldn't always properly update the focus view
  • Numerous internal improvements and fixes to drag & drop
  • Dragging a task from one project onto a task from another project would properly make it a subtask, but would not properly change the project of that subtask to match its parent
  • When switching from a calendar view to a non-calendar view (like the tasks view), the sidebar mini months wouldn't clear the "Selected Range"
  • Improvements and fixes to the management of backups (in the Advanced Preferences)
  • Fixed issue with calendar contextual menu if you had multiple events selected
  • Fixed some issues with the "Project" contextual menu item on notes
  • Adding a voice note to an empty note would fail
  • When the default due date was set to "Next Friday", new tasks were being made for "Next Thursday"

  • Quick Entry (NLP) in the Today menu wouldn't respect the currently selected day if you specified a time in your "quick entry" string
  • Fixed issue where if you dragged an image into a new note immediately after it was created, it would fail to save the image
  • Improved reliability of syncing notes containing images to/from Informant 5 using Informant Sync
  • Numerous internal improvements (we now have a fully shared codebase with Informant for iOS, updated to Swift 3, updated several 3rd party frameworks, prepared ourselves for planned future features, etc)
  • Various fixes and improvements to Alarm notifications
  • Stacked Week view might sometimes failed to load data (unless you swiped back and forth a few times)
  • For now, our in-app support feature will pop open a new email in your email client. We are working with HelpShift to resolve issues with their SDK that would give a "network error" when attempting to submit support requests directly within the app.
  • Several stability and performance improvements
  • Several fixes to how we manage the on-demand loading of Evernote note content.
  • Several improvements to note navigation & editing:
  • We no longer immediately put the focus in the note body when you select a note - this allows you to use the arrow keys to move up/down in the notes list. You can use to get into the selected note.
  • We also fixed some situations where a note would randomly lose focus or situations where the note would appear to be de-selected in the notes list (even though it still appeared in the editor).
  • If you drag a note to a different project such that it is removed from the current notes list, we now remove it from the editor as well.
  • Fixed issue where the notes editor could get stuck in a "No Preview” state
  • Fixed an issue where sometimes the notes editor would appear blank (the note would still exist, it would just fail to display)
  • Fixed issue where the notes editor might randomly revert back to an earlier saved copy of the note (this wasn't a very common situation, but it could happen)
  • Fixed issue where changes to note properties might fail to save / sync changes if the note body was empty

New in Informant 0.98.50296 Milestone 9 Beta 1.6 (Apr 6, 2017)

  • Fixes:
  • The selected time zone in the event editor was not being respected on save
  • The time zone picker now updates itself to reflect the time zone of the selected calendar if the calendar is locked to a specific time zone
  • The "clock time" now remains unaffected on the event editor when changing time zones. This makes it easier to set your time and time zone in either order.
  • Fixed crash that could occur when hitting command-return on a blank task row that you are actively editing
  • Fixed rare crash that could occur in Toodledo Account Options screen
  • Fixed issue in previous build with signing into Google Task

  • When logging back into an existing Google account, we now pass the Google ID to Google to pre-select
  • Other internal improvements to how the new authentication framework is handled

New in Informant 0.98.50291 Milestone 9 Beta 1.5 (Mar 28, 2017)

  • Updated to a new process for logging into Google and Toodledo Sync Accounts. Informant for macOS is now ready for upcoming authentication changes that Google is making in April. NOTE: While Informant should migrate your existing logins, there's a chance that after updating, you might need to log back into your Google or Toodledo Sync Accounts.

  • Calendar filter for the Today sidebar would get lost when quitting Informant

  • Fixed several issues that could occur when duplicating a project that contained tasks with subtasks

  • For now, our in-app support feature will pop open a new email in your email client. We are working with Helpshift to resolve issues with their SDK that would give a "network error" when attempting to submit support requests directly within the app on macOS Sierra.
  • Fixed crash on Month view if you clicked on the "More" button and there was a note pinned to that date
  • Fixes to the Time Zone picker in the event editor
  • Minor UI and performance improvements
  • Several improvements to note navigation & editing:
  • We no longer immediately put the focus in the note body when you select a note - this allows you to use the arrow keys to move up/down in the notes list. You can hit "Tab" to get into the selected note.
  • We also fixed some situations where a note would randomly lose focus or situations where the note would appear to be de-selected in the notes list (even though it still appeared in the editor).
  • If you drag a note to a different project such that it is removed from the current notes list, we now remove it from the editor as well
  • Fixed issue where the notes editor could get stuck in a "No Preview" state
  • Fixed an issue where sometimes the notes editor would appear blank (the note would still exist, it would just fail to display)
  • Fixed issue where the notes editor might randomly revert back to an earlier saved copy of the note (this wasn't a very common situation, but it could happen)
  • Fixed issue where changes to note properties might fail to save / sync changes if the note body was empty
  • Several fixes to how we manage the on-demand loading of Evernote note content:
  • This includes a situation where the current state of the note properties might be out of sync between Informant and Evernote
  • This also fixes situations where dragging an Evernote note to a project in a different sync account might not always move the note content
  • Also improved the error notification if you attempt to load an offline Evernote note while you are not connected to the Internet

New in Informant 0.98.50282 Beta 1 (Feb 11, 2017)

  • FIXES IN BETA:
  • Fixed regression where Quick Entry via hotkey did not properly infer "Today" if your event string did not include an explicit date.
  • Fixed regression where new items made in Quick Entry (via hotkey or menu bar) did not immediately show up within the main app. You would sometimes have to toggle views before the new item would show.
  • Fixed regression where the "Skip Occurrence" contextual menu item would remain disabled for repeating tasks in month view.
  • Inherited a few fixes from Informant for iOS 5.03:
  • Fixed issue where changes to projects might not be synced via Informant Sync in specific situations.
  • Fixed issue where restoring backups may not always work correctly
  • NEW & IMPROVED:
  • You can now re-order sections in the Focus view (this is done in Focus View Preferences)
  • The Today menu is now a "tear off" menu. You can open it from the menu bar, then drag it to wherever you want.
  • You can now drag/drop between the "Today Menu" and the main app
  • You can now drag / drop notes (into a project, tag, mini-month, etc)
  • Various UI improvements throughout
  • When grouping by project, the task view now sorts tasks in a sequential project according to the user-specified sequence
  • Making a child task (via command-return) now sets the priority of the child to match the parent
  • Completed checklist items always show regardless of your "show completed tasks" setting. This is consistent behavior with Informant on iOS.

  • Stacked Week view now shows location information for events

  • Fixed some calendar views get into a bad state after a significant time zone change
  • -Issue #1291: Right-click-creating a task in Days view now pre-sets the new task to the date you clicked in (like in all other calendar views)
  • Issue #1305: Better handle dragging multi-day all day events
  • fixed deadlock that could cause the “update database” message to stay up indefinitely.
  • bumped data fix version number so customers who failed to get their data fixes in b1 will updated properly in b2
  • Fixed issue where EKController was getting told to refreshDataSources every single time Application will become active
  • New subtasks now inherit their parent’s icon, priority, context, and tags
  • Issue #1301: Creating a new task while a tag or context filter is selected doesn’t automatically adopt that property like it should. NOTE: this change shouldn’t have any unexpected / adverse side effects, but it’s worth keeping an eye on.

  • Don't show contextual menu on mini month when used in sidebar or focus view
  • Fixed crash when right clicking on a group header in the tasks view
  • As part of this fixed, added a feature that will auto-select all tasks in a group when you right click on the header so that you can apply the action in the contextual menu to all items in that group

New in Informant 0.96.50044 EA 7 (Feb 12, 2016)

  • New:
  • MAJOR Informant is now broken up into a Helper, a Main app, and a dock icon plugin. This allows you to engage “Quick Entry”, use the menu bar utility, and snooze alarm notifications all without the main app running; and the dock icon will show the current date even if the app is not running (for now this also means the option to turn this off is disabled)
  • MAJOR New “Stacked” Week View
  • MAJOR QuickLook popover for all events and tasks (you can now bring it up with a 3 finger tap on an Apple Trackpad, or select the item you want and hit the space bar)
  • Added a cancel/save to the popover for editors. Clicking outside the popover still works as always.
  • New Informant About/Intro screen
  • Many new options for Day View, Appearance, and more
  • Full El Capitan support including Split Screen mode
  • You can now use Command-1, 2, 3, etc to change between open tabs
  • Create new tasks inline. While in Tasks tab (within a project or most other filters), simply hit “Return” to make a new task. Hit Command-Return to make a subtask of the selected task.
  • Lots of small fixes and stability and visual improvements across the entire app
  • Beginning Localizations (areas that we intend to still make changes to have not yet been localized)

New in Informant 0.95.54 Beta 6 (Jul 31, 2015)

  • Improvements:
  • More improvements to drag/drop in task View: it’s now possible to drag a subtask out from under its parent even when there is no white space in the task list and it’s easier to drag a task between sections (before, you had to drop on the task header itself...now we also re-target a drag to the section if you are between task cells).
  • The color picker popover is now easier to dismiss when it’s in the editor. We might decide this change makes it “too easy” to dismiss in other places (like account settings)…if so, we’ll expose the popover behavior property in the color well and set it in places that we care.
  • You can no longer hit the complete button on a task row that you are actively editing in the editor
  • Dragging a task to the “none” section will behave as expected (for instance, if grouping by content, dragging to the “none” context section will just clear the context). This should also work for iOS as well
  • You can now drag/drop tasks between sections when you are grouping your task list
  • You can no longer click into the location address field in the editor when it is hidden
  • Better handling of the past appointment style & calendar text color preference
  • Added Preference for Event Row color style (text, background, none). Event rows now respect this new preference.
  • Partially implemented the “Past Appointment” style preference (it was been hard coded to “faded”). The work on this isn’t completed for the italics option yet
  • When editing an event/task row, the text field no longer draws its background
  • Issue #878: Added option to do background colors on task cells (event cells coming soon)
  • Fixed:
  • Fixed formatting issue with the red today circle on month view in El Capitan
  • Fixed sizing of the title field in the editor when only the placeholder text is showing
  • Fixed issue where sometimes we’d allow dropping onto a section header that didn’t have a drop action
  • Fixed issue with drag/drop between sections when grouping by tags
  • Fixed issue with drag/drop between sections that involved managed objects (like contexts and projects). We would wind up with objects in separate MOCs
  • Fixed issue in tasks view that could prevent drag / drop from working as expected in sequential projects
  • Fixed issue with drag/drop getting into an unexpected state in sequential projects when the project was being grouped
  • “Past Appointment Style” preference is now properly respected in Focus View
  • Fixed issue (that affected iOS + OS X) where changing the Overdue task color wouldn’t ever update the view (you needed to fully quit/relaunch the app). There may be a performance cost to this solution if there are *a lot* of overdue tasks, but in real life I don’t think it will be a widespread problem.

New in Informant 0.95.53 Beta 6 (Jul 24, 2015)

  • Improvements:
  • New "summary" popover when you hover over an event or task in Focus, Month and Task view
  • Creating a new project now respects the default project type
  • Completed subtasks now respect the "Show Completed Tasks" preference in Calendar Settings
  • Task rows now show a task's completed date when they are completed
  • When duplicating an event, don't duplicate the recurrence rule - just duplicate that one instance
  • Several improvements to Month View
  • Improved text positioning for all day events
  • Fixed some bad drawing if you selected a multi-day-all-day event that spanned more than 1 week
  • Fixed a couple uncommon crashes
  • Editors now use auto layout across the board. This should have a number of positive side effects:
  • Non-English languages should be handled better
  • Fixes a couple known layout issues (such as the alarms label not always moving down when it should)
  • Some animations should be more natural
  • Far easier to maintain moving forward as we add/change functionality
  • Fixed:
  • Fixed regression in last beta release where drag/drop could become unresponsive in tasks view
  • Fixed cosmetic regression in last beta where the title of a task might get unnecessarily truncated
  • Don't allow inline editing while the main editor is open
  • If you had the editor open on tasks view and immediately double-clicked another task row to edit, the editor wouldn't update itself properly
  • Fixed crash in project editor if you had a template with no template title
  • When you change the name of a Reminder list, the change is properly/automatically reflected in the task sidebar
  • Improved stability

New in Informant 0.95.52 Beta 5 (Jul 4, 2015)

  • Improvements:
  • You can now remove Tag Colors
  • Hitting Return in the Tasks View makes a new task that you can set the title on without the editor
  • Command-Return makes a new subtask on the selected task
  • You can now drag to re-order tasks in a sequential project
  • Templates can now be set to show in the "New" menu
  • Backups now encompass the entire backup data
  • Updated lots of Localizations - please note this may break the UI in some languages, so please send us screenshots in the Early Access list for anything you see
  • Sparkle Update
  • Some Full Screen mode improvements - please note that some full screen mode improvements such as the Informant Today Menu and Quick Entry screens will be fixed in R6 when we separate those functions out of the app into their own applet

  • Toodledo sync handles a few extra error codes
  • Fixed:
  • The Week Font Size setting is now a different internal setting than on iOS
  • Fixed an issue causing needless Tasks table row reloads
  • Fixed an issue with some views (specifically Month View) where on startup with an external mouse connected the view is empty
  • Quite a few major internal changes dealing with Projects
  • Fixed an issue with the sidebar on tasks view where sometimes various filter groups would collapse when they shouldn't
  • Fixed many issues with templates

New in Informant 0.95.46 Beta 4 (Jun 24, 2015)

  • Improvements:
  • Week view now remembers the last date you clicked and will use that for a cmd-V paste
  • Added QE Syntax Helper Window - this will get replaced in the future when we add a Help File
  • Fixed:
  • Simply toggling to Plain Text and back to Rich Text in the notes shouldn’t cause all formatting to be lost
  • Potential crash fix for some people where our internal data structure would get a nil value
  • Fixed issue where our split view let you rest on non-integral values. This caused the frames for both the sidebar and the main view to not be integral which caused a couple different issues: fuzzy text on month view and sometimes month view's date in the header would rapidly switch between the current date and Dec 4001 as you scroll
  • Fixed some behaviors with the selection text auto-complete popover

  • Fixed various regressions (including crashes) caused by the recent sub-editor re-org

  • Major Sparkle Update
  • Fixed some issues with mini-sidebar month
