Comic Collector Changelog

What's new in Comic Collector 18.0.1

Apr 4, 2018
  • NEW: FULLY AUTOMATIC CLZ CLOUD SYNCING:
  • The free CLZ Cloud service is at the center of all our cataloging solutions (desktop, mobile and web), the glue that binds them all together. Tens of thousands of users are using the CLZ Cloud syncing every day, to transfer data between their desktop, Connect and mobile software, to update their online collection list, or simply for keeping an online backup of their precious database.
  • Now, it is time to take the CLZ Cloud to the next level, with automatic syncing:
  • Add or edit comics in Comic Collector and these changes will auto-upload to the CLZ Cloud instantly. Did you make changes using the CLZ Comics mobile app or directly in Comic Connect? Just start your software and changes will download automatically.
  • No more need to go to the Sync with CLZ Cloud screen, ever.
  • Automatic Cloud Syncing is an optional feature, switched OFF by default. If you don’t want to auto-sync, or don’t want to sync with the CLZ Cloud at all, just leave it switched OFF.
  • With “Sync Automatically” switched on:
  • Your online cloud backup is always up-to-date.
  • Your cloud viewer always shows the current state of your collection.
  • All your CLZ tools (desktop, mobile and Connect) will always be in-sync.
  • MAIN SCREEN NOW FASTER AND MORE STABLE:
  • In the past few months, we have spent a lot of time rewriting important parts of the main screen. For instance, the code that refreshes the folder panel (which was slow, especially with the “counters” switched on) and also the part that restores your selection in the list after editing. At the same time, we reduced the program’s “memory footprint”, making it more stable overall.
  • The result is that the program is now a lot more enjoyable to use. It starts quicker, it refreshes much faster (after adding or editing) and switching between folder types is quicker.
  • The speed-up will be most noticeable on large collections, with thousands of comics. Especially when having LOTS of folders in the folder panel (e.g. Character folders).
  • FIXES:
  • Cloud syncing:
  • After duplicating a comic, the duplicate would not be marked for syncing to cloud.
  • In some situations, a down-sync could update empty fields with data from Core.
  • In some situations, cover images would not upload automatically.
  • Main screen:
  • After editing, the edited items would not be selected after refresh.

New in Comic Collector 17.0.6 (Sep 22, 2017)

  • Fixed:
  • Quick Search suggestion box could crash the app.
  • Alphabet bar wasn’t working anymore.

New in Comic Collector 17.0.4 (May 24, 2017)

  • Fixed:
  • Add Comics Automatically: the cursor in the search series title box would sometimes jump to the end while changing the search term.
  • Upload cover to CLZ Core: sometimes images were not uploaded properly because of the 500K size restriction although they were smaller in size.

New in Comic Collector 17.0.3 (Mar 22, 2017)

  • Expanded the quick search box to now also allow “search-as-you-type” with suggestions for pick list fields.
  • How does it work?
  • In the quick search box top right of your screen you should see a “dropdown” button. Use this to select which field you wish to perform a search on. If “search-as-you-type” is available for that field, it will instantly work once you start typing in the box.
  • Example
  • You can now select the field “Publisher” in the quick search box, start typing a publisher name, and instantly see suggestions (based on what you typed) of publishers you have in your database. Click on a publisher to see all comics of that publisher.
  • Try it with the “Character” field too! Instantly filter down to all comics have that specific character in them.

New in Comic Collector 17.0.1 (Mar 8, 2017)

  • Quick Search: Search-As-You-Type suggestions:
  • Instantly find and select a particular series in your local database:
  • In the Quick Search box, just start typing the first few letters of the series you are looking for.
  • While typing, a drop-down list will appear, showing the first five matching series. (for most series, it only takes 2 or 3 letters before it shows up.)
  • Once you see the one you were looking for, use the up/down keys to select it, then hit Enter.
  • The series will now be selected in your folder panel, with the issues showing in the list panel.
  • NOTE: this Search-As-You-Type feature replaces the old “filter-as-you-type” behaviour of the Quick Search box. If you want to go back to the old behaviour, you can do so in the Preferences screen, on the Behaviour page using the setting called “When typing in Quick Search box”.
  • Quick Search: Search Field selector:
  • Narrow down your searches to a particular field, e.g. search in Title only, or Plot only:
  • Click the new arrow button to the left of the Quick Search box. A list of search fields will appear.
  • Now pick the field you want to search in.
  • Use the Quick Search box as you normally would to search in this field only.
  • New Multi-Image-Viewer pop-up:
  • Easily browse all images attached to a comic:
  • In the comic details panel, click an image to open it in the new Multi-Image-Viewer popup.
  • Click the thumbnails on the left (or just use up/down keys) to browse through all images attached to the comic: front cover, back cover, preview art and all other image files.
  • No more need to close the popup and click to re-open for the next image.

New in Comic Collector 16.1.1.2926 (Sep 22, 2016)

  • NEW: "SEARCH-AS-YOU-TYPE" SUGGESTIONS WHEN ADDING COMICS BY TITLE:
  • If you are adding most of your comics "By Title", then this will be a huge time-saver.
  • Here's how the new "Search-As-You-Type" feature works:
  • In the Add Comics Automatically screen, just start typing the first letters of the series title you want to add issues for.
  • While typing, a drop-down list will appear, instantly showing the five most popular series that match,
  • including the date range, the number of issues contained and a small thumbnail image.
  • For popular series, it usually takes only 2 or 3 letters before it shows up.
  • For older or less popular series, type a few more letters.
  • Once you see your series appear, use the arrow keys to select it, then hit Enter.
  • Then under Search Results, that exact series will be listed, with its' issue list.
  • Important: this is an *extra* tool, that makes it easier and faster to add popular series.
  • Just hit Enter or choose "Show all results for ".." to see the full search results.
  • FASTER AND BETTER RESULTS WHEN SEARCHING SERIES BY TITLE:
  • Next to the new Search-As-You-Type system, we have also improved the "normal" By
  • Title search engine:
  • Super-fast results for your searches (almost instant).
  • Cleaner, more focused results, less fuzzy. For example, where previously a search for "batman rebirth" would show all series that would contain "batman" OR "rebirth" in their name, the results now just show series that contain BOTH words.
  • The order of the results is weighted by popularity. A search for "amazing spider-man" will give you the main volumes at the top, with less popular series further down below.

  • New CLZ Cloud Syncing v2.0:
  • We have completely rewritten the CLZ Cloud syncing mechanism,
  • to make it easier to use, faster and capable of syncing very large databases.
  • Easier: One "Synchronize" button that syncs up and/or down as needed.
  • No more need to choose the sync direction (Up or Down). Just click the single Synchronize button and the system will automatically upload your local changes and download your cloud-side changes.
  • Faster: Sync your additions, changes and removals within a few seconds.
  • The software now keeps track of your adds, edits and removes, so when synchronizing with the CLZ Cloud, it already knows which items need to be up- or downloaded, making the actual sync very fast. ( the initial full sync may be slightly slower though, but you only need to do that once )
  • More scalable: Transfer very large databases without problems.
  • The syncing process is now a series of tiny data uploads and downloads, as opposed to a single huge upload/download. This ensures that databases of any size can be synced.
  • More reliable: Solves many problems of the old syncing system.
  • No more "invalid XML" when uploading large collections, no more changes that keep recurring every sync.
  • No more starting from scratch in case of connection problems, just continue where you left off.

  • If you want to change, for instance, the Writer, that is, to a different Writer entry, do *not* edit the name in the table (because this will affect all other comics that use this Writer entry).

  • until the menu bar appears, and then click the arrows.
  • Edit Comic: easier adding of Creators and Characters:
  • When entering the name of a character or creator (Writer, Artist, Colorist, etc...),
  • the pick list now filters the list using the letters you typed. (as opposed to jumping to the first matching item).
  • This makes the drop down list more useful, as it now only shows a short list of matching items,
  • instead of tens of thousands of person names in a tiny box.
  • On top of that, it avoids having to load the long list of names, making the Edit screen much faster.
  • Performance improvements:
  • New database structure which will slightly improve the performance of most database actions,
  • and, more importantly, will make future database conversions much faster and more stable.
  • However: this new database structure will cause one last slow conversion for this update,

  • Edit Comic screen now opens much faster, especially on large databases with many creators and characters.
  • Fixes:

  • When System Prefs / Number of Recent items was set to 0, the program did not remember last open database (or even crashed on some systems)
  • When deleting the comic, the Preview Art didn't get removed from database container
  • Cmd+W incorrectly closed the entire application instead of just closing the document
  • When closing the last document, the program was (incorrectly) closed too
  • OS X 10.5: Creating a new database still resulted in a crash

New in Comic Collector 5.0 Build 3 (May 25, 2011)

  • Fixed:
  • Add Comics Automatically: when using a license name with a special character all searches returned "No Matches Found"
  • Last open database was not remembered when quitting app with cmd+Q
  • Edit Comic screen: When clicking Cancel, it always asked "are you sure?", even when no changes were made
  • Find Cover Image: Crash when click Crop without a crop area selected
  • Several issues on OS X 10.5:
  • Menu Buy / Enter License Info did not open License screen
  • Menu Comic Collector / Preferences did not open Preferences screen
  • Trial version start-up screen did not show up
  • Crash when opening a new database
  • Find Cover Image screen did not open
