  • Minor update that fixes a couple of bugs related to Oracle Cloud.
  • Our customers have reported two bugs they had experienced during backup to Oracle Cloud. First, cloud buckets wouldn't list due to the improper handling of the access token. Second, Oracle Cloud appears to improperly process compressed files which leads to data restore failure. Both bugs have been fixed; however, compression is now by default disabled for Oracle Cloud.
  • A number of other bugs have been addressed, improving the overall performance of the app.

New in MSP360 Backup 2.4.2.4 (Apr 28, 2018)

  • Support for Osaka-Local region for Amazon S3:
  • Release 2.4.2 is a minor update that brings support for Amazon's latest S3 region — Osaka-Local. Unlike other S3 regions, access to Osaka-Local is limited to Japanese customers and has to be requested from directly Amazon’s sales representatives. Once you have access to the region, CloudBerry Backup for macOS & Linux will be able to list, download, and upload files located in the region as well as manage buckets.

New in MSP360 Backup 2.4.0.17 (Mar 16, 2018)

  • Support for Retina displays:
  • One of the most anticipated and highly-requested features of release 2.4 is the support for Retina displays. All icons and pictures have been updated to look appropriately sharp, and the text from now on also looks perfectly suitable for Retina displays. Here's how the old non-Retina version compares to the new high-DPI one.
  • Support for Alibaba Cloud Storage:
  • Alibaba Cloud is one of the leading Chinese cloud storage services on the market. As a result, many of our customers have requested that we implement support for it in CloudBerry Backup for macOS & Linux. So starting with version 2.4 you can back up and restore data to/from Alibaba Cloud Storage.
  • Show Hidden Files & Folders:
  • Another highly-request feature is the ability to back up hidden files & folders. From now on you can choose to display hidden files & folders in the Backup Wizard by selecting the appropriate checkbox. Naturally, such files & folders can later be restored to their original locations.
  • Ignoring SSL Certificates:
  • Suppose you're running a server with self-signed SSL certificates and Minio as your backup destination. To avoid backup failure, CloudBerry Backup disregards the self-signed certificates and proceeds with the backup process. In release 2.4, we've added the option to fail a backup plan if the SSL certificates on the backup destination are corrupt. You can enable the new feature in Settings, under Network.
  • Symlinks Management:
  • Another handy feature in CloudBerry Backup 2.4 for macOS & Linux is comprehensive symlink management. Namely, you can now thoroughly specify how the app should treat symlinks during backup.

New in MSP360 Backup 2.3.0.12 (Jan 26, 2018)

  • Support for Microsoft Azure Archive and Cool Blob Storage:
  • Perhaps the biggest feature of CloudBerry Backup 2.3 for macOS & Linux is the support for Microsoft Azure Archive and Cool blob storage tiers. Being low-cost storage solutions for rarely-accessed data, Archive and Cool storage tiers offer a very competitive pricing model compared to similar storage from Amazon. In fact, Azure Archive costs half as much as Amazon Glacier at just $0.002 per GB/month.
  • You can indicate if you want to back up data to Azure Archive & Cool storage in the Backup Wizard.
  • Support for S3 Paris region:
  • Amazon has recently introduced a new S3 region — Paris. CloudBerry Backup for macOS & Linux has thus been updated and now natively supports backup and restore to/from this region.

New in MSP360 Backup 2.2.0.76 (Dec 4, 2017)

  • ENABLING WEB ACCESS VIA CLI:
  • Perhaps the biggest change in CloudBerry Backup 2.2 for macOS & Linux is the ability to enable Web Access via command line interface.
  • MISCELLANEOUS:
  • Another long-awaited enhancement is the support for OpenSUSE 42.2, 42.3, and Fedora 27. Thus, if you're running one of those operating systems, you can now go ahead and install CloudBerry Backup and be sure that it works properly.
  • HERE'S A LIST OF A FEW OTHER NOVELTIES:
  • Ability to enter/exit fullscreen by utilizing the Cmd+Ctrl+F shortcut;
  • Removed the Reduced Redundancy Storage option for S3 (deprecated by Amazon);
  • Disable the Web Access by default (especially crucial in light of the recent macOS security issues);
  • Increased the maximum number of days for the retention policy from 99 to almost infinity;
  • Display the computer's timezone in email notifications.

New in MSP360 Backup 2.1.0.81 (Sep 20, 2017)

  • Full support for macOS High Sierra:
  • CloudBerry Backup 2.1 is fully equipped to work with the latest iteration of macOS — High Sierra. So when you head over to the Mac App Store in two weeks to install Apple's latest operating system, you can be sure that our backup product will function properly and without any hiccups. We've ensured that CloudBerry Backup 2.1 is entirely compatible with Apple File System, thus enabling you to take advantage of the superior file system while retaining the ability to perform flexible backups.
  • Support for Minio:
  • Minio is an S3-compatible distributed object storage built for cloud application. It is available free of charge, released under Apache license v2.0. Yet what sets apart Minio from the competitors the most is unquestionably its simplicity and effortless deployment. Being an open-source project, Minio has an active developer and user community. In CloudBerry Backup 2.1 we have implemented the support for Minio. And what's great is that you can easily deploy this storage to any of your servers or computers and immediately start backups via CloudBerry Backup. As usual, the cloud storage can be added in the settings, under Storage.
  • Support for Proxy:
  • Another new feature in the latest edition of CloudBerry Backup is the support for web proxy. The feature is pretty self-explanatory; it allows you to shield all you incoming and outgoing connections with a web proxy. It can be enabled in the settings. Under Application, select the Use Web Proxy (HTTP) checkbox.
  • Then specify the proxy's credentials, click OK, and you're pretty much all set.
  • Removal of files from the Cloud:
  • The last feature we'd like to briefly touch upon is the ability to remove files from the cloud within the app. Simply right-click on any file in Backup Storage and click Delete.
  • The deletion of files works across all supported storage services — cloud and local alike.
  • Support for S3-to-Glacier data transfer:
  • In release 2.1 we've brought you the option to transfer your data from S3 to Glacier immediately after upload. In other words, you data is first uploaded to S3 and then, using Amazon's API, it's immediately transferred to Glacier. This neat trick allows you to save up on storage by accepting low accessibility. Now let's see how you can actually perform this procedure. In Settings, Under Storage, click Amazon S3& Glacier.
  • Beneath the credentials, select the Archive to Glacier checkbox and click OK.

New in MSP360 Backup 2.0.2.39 (Jun 22, 2017)

  • Support for Wasabi:
  • Wasabi can be added as a backup destination in CloudBerry Backup for macOS & Linux starting from version 2.0.2 onward.
  • Support for Google Cloud London region:
  • Another small improvement worth mentioning is the support for Google Cloud London region. In fact, we now support all Google regions, so you can select those locations that best suit you in terms of transfer speeds and the accompanying costs.

New in MSP360 Backup 2.0.1.131 (Mar 13, 2017)

  • At the request of many of our users we have implemented master password functionality within the app. In a nutshell, the feature allows you set a password that needs to be entered whenever the app is launched. It's crucial to know, however, that this password only prevents interaction with the app's GUI. Therefore, the command line interface is still available for potential malefactors. So think of it as a protection against office passersby and family members.

New in MSP360 Backup 2.0.0.118 (Mar 3, 2017)

  • MULTI-THREADED UPLOAD:
  • Previously, files were uploaded by means of a single thread which inevitably decreased the upload speed. Starting from version 2.0 onward, we have drastically enhanced the upload mechanism to take advantage of multi-threading. To wit, you can now specify the number of concurrent threads that are to be utilized for one backup. That tremendously expedites the upload process due to more efficient and swift data transfer. Naturally, we have added a few options to let you customize the multi-threaded experience. Namely, you can specify the maximum thread number, chunk size, and used memory. To specify these preferences, go to Settings and click Advanced Settings.
  • ADVANCED FILE FILTER:
  • One of the most requested feature has been the option to manually exclude files of certain types from being backed up. We have finally adopted that feature, and you thus get more configurable backup plans. Simply specify the types to be omitted when configuring a backup plan. Similarly, you could also specify the file types to be included in the backup, thereby automatically excluding all the rest.
  • SUPPORT FOR NEW GLACIER RETRIEVAL RATES:
  • Formerly, if you wanted to retrieve your files from Amazon Glacier, the only way you could do so is via the so-called Standard retrieval. Well, not anymore. Amazon has introduced 2 new rates:
  • Expedited. You can get you data in as little as 1 to 5 minutes. Retrievals cost $0.03 per GB and $0.01 per request.
  • Bulk. It is perfect for planned or non-urgent cases, with retrieval taking anywhere from 5 to 12 hours at a cost of $0.0025 per GB and every 1000 requests amounting to $0.025.
  • The Standard rate with your typical retrieval hours (3 to 5) also remains, costing $0.01 per GB along with $0.05 for every 1,000 requests.
  • You can select the required rate when configuring a restore plan.
  • MORE DESCRIPTIVE PLAN EXECUTION INFORMATION:
  • The backup plan execution information has been expanded and now displays the duration of the last executed plan and the number of files uploaded.
  • FREE-TO-TRIAL LICENSE TIER UPGRADE:
  • The earlier versions of CloudBerry Backup for macOS/Linux did not allow you to conveniently switch between the free and trial license tiers. It was therefore necessary to resort to some troublesome workarounds to perform that operation. Thankfully, we have rectified that inconvenience, and now this operation can be performed with a few clicks in the settings.
  • BACKUP & RESTORE WIZARD SHORTCUTS:
  • Launching the wizards is now easier than ever. On macOS, simply press Cmd+B to launch the Backup Wizard or Cmd+R to launch the Restore Wizard. On Linux the operation is fairly similar, except you need to use the Ctrl key instead of Cmd.

New in MSP360 Backup 1.11.0.19 (Dec 7, 2016)

  • Restore Wizard:
  • Added two checkboxes to give you greater flexibility when it comes to restoring. First and foremost, is the ability to restore files straight from the cloud storage section of the app. Just locate your files, right-click on them and click Restore. Many of the usual steps will be automatically performed, which means that you will only have to adjust a few remaining settings.
  • Furthermore, you can now set up a restore plan to be executed only once. If you want to perform a one-off restore, select the requisite checkbox. That way, the plan will first complete and then delete itself altogether.
  • Ultimate tier:
  • If you’re using the standard version of Cloudberry Backup, your cloud upload volume is limited to 5 TB. However, if you opt for our brand-new Ultimate license, that constraint will no longer apply to your cloud operations.
  • A few minor changes have also been made to enhance the overall performance of the app.

  • Data transfer acceleration can be enabled for a particular backup plan. We have also prepared a detailed post about S3 Accelerator technology.
