What's new in CheckBook 2.7.29

  • Includes the usual minor user interface tweaks and performance enhancements.

  • Includes the usual minor user interface fixes and adjustments.

  • Ready for macOS 14 Sonoma.
  • Drag & drop statement files right to the Entry or Reconcile lists to get down to importing without going through the File > Import menu.
  • Learn a few new keyboard shortcuts in Entry and Schedule sheets so you can switch between Deposit/Debit, Split, Notes, and Schedule with the flick of your fingers instead of moving your hand all the way to the mouse and back: Command (⌘) 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively.
  • The Escape key and Command (⌘) Period (.) now revert to the last value you entered into a split line item field, more in line with how a spreadsheet works and, perhaps, your expectations.

New in CheckBook 2.7.24 (Aug 3, 2023)

  • New:
  • Get more insight into your reconciliation with the new Reconcile Info popover. Totals for Entries you’ve resolved since your last reconciliation make it even easier to track down differences with your bank or credit card statements. • New:
  • Entry detail menus now show just the items that match what you’re typing. Only remember part of an item name? No problem - type in the smidge you know and the menu shows items that start with or contain that smidge. To go back to showing all items, no matter what you type, go to the CheckBook menu, click Preferences…, click the Entry button at the top of the window, and look for the Show All Items In To/From, Category, and Description Menus checkbox near the bottom of the window.
  • We’ve returned to hiding split line items by default, but that behavior’s up to you: Go to the CheckBook menu, click Preferences…, click the Entry button at the top of the window, and look for the Expand Entries After Splitting checkbox near the bottom of the window.

  • Fixed:
  • Prevents a potential issue leading to incorrect dates in the Schedule > Next Entry Date column.
  • Includes assorted minor user interface adjustments.

  • Properly restores the Tax-Deductible column header icon after you use the Reset Columns feature.

New in CheckBook 2.7.15 (Apr 2, 2023)

  • We sped up importing from Text or CSV and made sure it works with recent changes to HSBC’s statement file format.
  • We also sped up importing and creating new documents from QIF.
  • Text, CSV, and QIF imports now automatically detect 2-digit and 4-digit years.
  • Detecting duplicates while importing is now hundreds of times faster.
  • We nixed a crash you might see when using the keyboard to select the To Account or From Account in transfers.
  • Corrects an issue with Speaking Entries that could lead to the wrong date being read aloud in some cases.
  • Restoring the selection in Entry and Reconcile as you switch Accounts is now significantly faster.
  • Using the arrow keys in a date picker so the year changes, like when you arrow on the day and go from 12/31/2022 to 1/1/2023 or the other way around, will now update the date picker's calendar view.
  • Errors are now more descriptive when syncing with another Mac fails.

New in CheckBook 2.7.14 (Dec 19, 2022)

  • You can now resize your document windows or go fullscreen and the rightmost column will stay exactly the width you set it to.

New in CheckBook 2.7.9 (Aug 25, 2022)

  • New:
  • Welcome the new Transfer button, near the top left of the Entry section. It’s easier than ever to start a new transfer between your Accounts.
  • The Schedule Reminder has always needed a Tomorrow option, but we took it to the nth and added Tomorrow plus Never. Now you can put off those Scheduled Entries until tomorrow or whenever you get a chance.
  • Fixed:
  • A column header got left out when exporting the current search results or all of your Accounts at once to Text or CSV. Everything lines up now.
  • Since version 2.7.7, the Date Created and the behind the scenes data for tracking duplicates when you import were not properly saved for some Entries. 2.7.9 updates your documents so the Date Created is correct and duplicate detection will work during future imports.
  • Also since version 2.7.7, newly-created Schedules could end up repeating daily. If you've gone back and made changes to these Schedules after creating them they’re already behaving as expected. 2.7.9 fixes any remaining Schedules created since 2.7.7 that you haven’t already changed.
  • Includes a few minor user interface fixes and adjustments.

New in CheckBook 2.7.8 (Jul 26, 2022)

New in CheckBook 2.7.7 (May 11, 2022)

  • New:
  • To, From, and Description boxes can now ask if you want to update the case for a previously entered item as you’re typing. You’ll see the option when the menu of previously entered items is visible, but if you want to see it as you’re typing without the menu head to CheckBook > Preferences… > Entry and put a checkmark next to Ask To Update To/From & Description Items near the bottom of the window
  • Notes are now part of Text and CSV exports.
  • The Preferences… > Grid Color color panel will now show the Opacity slider so you can make grid lines in Entry lists disappear completely.
  • Fixed:
  • Zaps a bug in the Import Preview that would always select the first item in To, From, or Description autocomplete lists, forcing you to overtype. All better now.

New in CheckBook 2.7.6 (Apr 8, 2022)

  • New:
  • Splitting your Entries just got a lot easier: You can now copy and paste split line items. Select a range of line items with a Shift-click and add or remove line items from the selection with a Command (⌘)-click.
  • Autocomplete in split line items now includes details entered in other split line items so you can zip through those splits in record time. We tightened up a few nuts and bolts around autocompletion and autofill while we were in there to make it even better.
  • Fixed:
  • Corrects a glitch that could prevent custom Descriptions or To/From items from being saved as you leave the Account options sheet.
  • Zaps a bug that could lead to the “rating plea” appearing more than the one time we promised for Splasm Store users as well as Mac App Store users on macOS 10.13 High Sierra or earlier. We apologize for that.
  • Includes minor user interface adjustments.

New in CheckBook 2.7.5 (Feb 27, 2022)

  • New:
  • For our keyboard warriors out there: Tab to a menu button, like the Type button in each Entry, start typing, and get results almost instantly instead of waiting the achingly slow 1-second default. Can’t tab to the Type button? Go to the Apple () menu, then System Preferences… > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Use keyboard navigation to move focus between controls.

  • Expand or collapse all your split Entries at once: Go to the View menu and click the Expand All Split Entries or Collapse All Split Entries menu items.
  • Add it up (or subtract it…down?): Amount fields now support basic math and even a handful of functions. Start an amount with an equals sign and you’re in business. Like this: “=142 - 42” or “=24.5 * 12”.
  • Fixed:
  • Zaps a glitch that would prevent Accounts from appearing immediately after creating a new document from QIF, Quicken Essentials for Mac, or Quicken for Mac 2015-2017 documents.
